On April 17, 2025, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended the traditional Royal Maundy Service at Durham Cathedral in Durham, Northern England. This year’s service took place at Durham Cathedral, where the King presented Maundy recipients — 76 men and 76 women — with two purses: one red and one white, containing Maundy Money.

Royal Maundy gifts are given in recognition of recipients’ outstanding Christian service and their contributions to improving the lives of people in their local communities. Recipients are selected from Church of England dioceses across the country, as well as from Anglican and Ecumenical partners throughout the UK.

The Royal Maundy tradition in England dates back to the 13th century. Maundy Thursday is the Christian holy day observed on the Thursday before Easter. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s act of washing the feet of his disciples and the Last Supper with the Apostles.

Signature dress with a QEesq hat. All very becoming. Wondering if her cape, which I like, should be a few inches longer. It seems to hit in the wrong spot . Overall nice for the occasion

See more pics here https://www.royal.uk/news-and-activity/2025-04-17/royal-maundy-2025 … I note the real warmth in Charles as he gives the purses. Also who is the lady walking behind them? Beautiful pink suit with gorgeous collar and a hat with flowers gone slightly wild.

Camilla looking beautiful in a rewear, which I so appreciate, and an excellent hat. Charles has often spoken of the harm the clothing industries does and sustainable purchases and it looks like Camilla joins in this practice.

Her Majesty looked especially lovely today! The shade of green is so festive and suits her very well. The hat itself is a masterpiece of millinery. And I like particularly well the combination of the dress and cape, it is a very good look for her!

Oh my. A cape with shoulder pads above a dress with shoulderpads. She looks like a wardrobe. Why she must wear black tights during Spring ? The other ladies behind her are all wearing transparent tights in natural colors. The ornament on the hat is terrible. She does have at least one coat in a light color. Why is she wearing these dark colors ? The person who is giving her advice for her outfits has a very bad taste or there is no stylist, or personal assistant or whatever.

Anonymous 7:23, black stockings are good with black shoes all year long. Totally normal pairing. And what’s the problem with dark colours? - I can’t work that out from your comment. Could it be that you’re from a different culture with different expectations and preferences? That’s ok, but it doesn’t make Camillas’s outfit wrong - just not to your preference. From my European perspective this is a perfect Easter time outfit and a beautiful hat for Camilla.

Whenever Queen Margrethe wears flesh-coloured tights/hose/nylons, many people criticize her for her „white“ legs. Camilla here wears transparent black tights, which is more subtle with darker colours. She is not wearing opaque tights.
No boots, a much more graceful look.
