Swedish Princess Leonore, Duchess of Gotland celebrates her 6th birthday today. Princess Madeleine released a new photo of her daughter Leonore on social media to mark that birthday. Happy birthday to you, Princess Leonore!
Princess Leonore, Duchess of Gotland (born 20 February 2014), is the first child of Princess Madeleine of Sweden and Christopher O'Neill. Princess Leonore is the youngest member of the Swedish Royal Family. She is eighth in the line of succession to the Swedish throne. She was christened on 8 June 2014.
What a lovely picture of a beautiful Princess Leonore. Bur something bothered me - I think it is the skimpiness of the dress around the shoulders. Was that necessary?
ReplyDeleteWhat????
DeleteThey live in South Florida where today’s winter temperature is 82F.
This is how little girls have been dressing in South Florida since I was her age - and I’m 80 years old.
Its obviously a summer photo. Its what little girls wear in the summer time.
DeleteThey live in Florida, so I'm sure they dress lighter the majority of the time.
DeleteShe's a 6 year old little girl in Florida wearing a scrappy summer dress - why would that bother anyone?
DeleteG
@ Janine, I can't believe what bother you, are you for real????
DeleteAVA
Omg... She's SIX years old. Stop sexualizing a child.
DeleteShe's a child. It is hot in Florida, where Princess Madeleine and her family live. Let children be children. We don't need to sexualize her clothing.
DeleteShould she be wrapped like a nun? She's six. 6. Shes a child. Florida is warm in the winter and humid and hot in the summer. Shes not in Sweden. Why are you looking at a 6 year old and thinking "wow, this dress is skimpy"?
DeleteAre you for real? It's a little girl in a summer dress. Are you saying it looks sexy? You truly need your head examined
DeleteJanine, are you really bothered by a 6 year old wearing a summer dress? Should all children cover their shoulders so adults aren't upset? How do you feel about swimming pools or beaches, should girls wear outfits to cover their bodies? I truly never in my life have heard such misguided comment.
DeleteReading comments I realize that indeed nothing wrong with the summer dress!. However something bothers me too, I can't say what... way she is looking??
DeleteIt's a sundress. Calm down. It's not like it has sequence with a plunging neckline. Wow.
DeleteI was saying to relative just the other day that if I were famous I would not publicly participate in social media simple because of the the "hyper-active" comments turning mole hills into mountains - especially the criticism of moms and how they take care of their kids. Photos would be for family and extremely close friends and even that would be very limited. It's just become too much of an unnecessary headache and stressor. And this is a case in point. If I were Madeline - especially since she and her husband are leading pretty private "normal" lives away from the royal court. I wouldn't post anything. I wouldn't make an announcement or official palace proclamation or anything like that. I'd just quietly stop posting. I'd still do my "princess duties" - patron charities, attend functions requiring the presence of the royal family, etc. - but that would be it. Otherwise, I'd just live my life.
Sorry for the rant ... but it's just like ... GEEEZEEEEZ!! :-)

Janine, FYI: I don't know if its still on the books but here in California little girls can go topless to the beach up the age of 12. So Leonore in her little sundress is literally no big deal.

@ MaryT,
DeleteI think she has a very soulful and express face, especially her eyes. Since she is not smiling from ear to ear - as most parents try to get their kids to do when taking a photo - her expression seems all the more ... "pensive?" For lack of a better word.

She looks a lot like her paternal grandmother, I think.
ReplyDeleteShe is very beautiful little princess. She has her grandmothers eyes and there is something about her way of looking?
ReplyDeleteShe is currently living in Florida, USA, which makes the sun dress appropriate. However, her title has been removed, she is no longer a "princess" the King made that official a number of months ago.... JT
ReplyDeleteBut she's still a princess though. The King only removed the title of "Her Royal Highness" :) It's the same with Princess Märtha Louise of Norway. No royal highness-title, but still a princess.
DeleteLeonore is still a princess as well as a duchess, but she no longer has the style of Royal Highness. See the October 7, 2019 announcement from the Marshal of the Realm on the page at https://www.kungahuset.se/royalcourt/media/pressreleases/pressreleases/communiqueonchangestotheroyalhouse.5.18cc416116d61fe304a87b6.html.
Delete@Anon 1:49am - Leonore is still a princess of Sweden but is no longer HRH (HKH). She remains in the line of succession. She is now known simply (in the world of royalty) as "Princess Leonore Lilian Maria, Duchess of Gotland". ~Rose~
DeleteYes, she is still a princess and a duchess, just not a HRH anymore.
Delete-EL
Leonore retains the courtesy title "Princess". However, the title cannot be passed down to her children and she is no longer a member of the Royal House, but still a member of the Royal family. Thus, the pressure is off that she has to return to Sweden for schooling by age 6 if she is to remain in the line of succession. She is a beautiful child.
DeleteThat isn't true. Leonore ist already a princess, her exactly title ist " Leonore, princess of sweden, duchess of gotland".
DeleteBut she is no longer a royal highness. That's the different.
Happy to see her.
Thinking often about her an her familiy und wish them all the best. God bless this wonderful little familiy.
Hi. She is still a princess but not an HRH.
DeleteThank you, some people have their minds in the gutter!
DeleteCould she still be called Princes with out the HRH?
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am going to say it. I like the bubbles as a starter tiara.
ReplyDeleteHaha, my first thought too!
DeleteAgreed, haha!
DeleteThis is a beautiful natural photo. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteShe is a lovely looking little girl, a tribute to her parents
ReplyDeleteBeautiful young child, we should thank the king from removing such a burden " princess" on such a young child, now she can grow up like a normal child and enjoy life.

ReplyDeleteAgree about the sundress -- that is what girls wear under the warm sun of Florida. Its something that I used to wear as a child and my daugthers wear. Even now I wear this style when its very warm and humid, even thought I'm in my 40s. Its not like she's naked!
ReplyDeleteBesides its "private" picture of Leonore. Its not from an official court webpage, FB or Instagram. Just private photo her mom shared with all of us on the day of Leonore's birthday. And its good that we get photos of her and her siblings now and then.
BTW: Leonore's titles and styles: 7 October 2019 - present : Princess Leonore Lilian Maria, Duchess of Gotland. So she is still a "princess", just without the HRH title.
And congratulations to lovely Leonore. 6 already. How time fly. She's going to be a beauty like her mom.

There is something missing in the picture of this 6 year old child: joy? Naivity? Spontaneity ?
ReplyDeleteIt's a snapshot...get a grip. Frieda
DeleteShe has always looked like this, a bit said in here eyes, don't know why.
DeleteAgree.
Delete@lilla gullet: Leonore gets her sad look from her father & his father; Nicolas has it as well. Not so sure about Adrienne, who looks totally different. Victoria & Carl Philip look more like their father but Madeleine is more like her mother. ~Rose~
DeletePhoto pleine de naturel d'une jolie petite fille, ravissante dans cette petite robe estivale.. Que du bonheur en cette belle journée d'anniversaire !
ReplyDeleteHappy 6th birthday, Princess Leonore.
ReplyDeleteIt seem like only yesterday she was born and Chris ONeill showed her footprint on his arm. Now soon its time to start school. How time fly.

Puzzled about the comments about a 6 year old child, by just one picture, 2 seconds in time that her mom was kind enough to share with us, and some go from sexualizing a very sweet candid image , to psycoanalyze her, and deduct that she lacks joy, and spontaneity...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see so many readers combat those comments with common sense and kindness.
More than ever I understand the desire of public people to protect their children from this type of criticism.
I think she is a beautiful child, just like every 6 year old ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s nèver about the child: it is her móther who chose thís picture!
DeleteAnd there is nothing with the picture chosen by her mother Anon 10:11
DeleteAnon@10:11... no, there are comments about the looks of this child, some people already seeing "something " strange, and deducing that there is something wrong with her. And then, there are comments about the dress, those are clearly poisoned arrows to the mother. Both categories are just plain stupid.
DeleteCB
I also think that she's a beautiful child and there's nothing wrong with her or the photo or her dress.
DeleteTBH, I prefer this more serious photo of Leonore than those pics where some child has big fake smile on her face just because she was told to smile.

Wow 6 year old already, Time flies, she has very prominent eyes. A very happy Birthday to the little Pss.
ReplyDeleteksiężniczka Madeleine chyba pomalowała do zdjęcia brewki swojej córeczce. Po co to robi skoro Leonore i tak jest naturalnie bardzo ładna bez tego makijażu? Makijaż dodaje dziecku więcej lat.
ReplyDeleteWhy to write about that if you think"chyba"?
DeleteAVA
There is no end to the stupid comments. Stop looking for something negative to say. Why is it so difficult to see a simple photo for what it is?
DeleteSome people would always see something bad in good !
