The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II with the Imperial State Crown resting on top carried by the Bearer Party into Westminster Abbey. The state funeral of Queen Elizabeth took place at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September. Representatives of nearly all of the royal houses in the world and many heads of state attended the state funeral.
The Queen’s coffin travelled in procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch (Hyde Park Corner). At Wellington Arch, the coffin was transferred to the state hearse to travel to Windsor. Afterwards, the Queen’s coffin was carried by the state hearse along South Carriage Drive to the Albert Memorial, where it departed for Windsor.
The oceans are full of tears today and some of mine are there.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace dear Elizabeth II.
Well said.

Only two sartorial comments :
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is Reina Sofia wearing?
The Bhutanese royals look interesting in their unusually dark attire
Athena
Reina Sofia seems dressed for an evening event. Queen of Sweden, Queen Letizia and Princess of Wales are the best dressed.
DeleteShe was there which is more important than what she wore!
Delete@Fitzhugh, a lot of people were there for the Queen wearing more appropriate mourning dresses. And Reina Sofia is celebrated as the epitome of grace and propriety by the Spanish media. Hence it is not unusual to wonder why she wore a glittery dress to the funeral of her cousin-in-law.
DeleteAthena
@Athena I was not questioning what she was wearing, what I was saying is do not put her down because I think the dress is proper and she was there to pay her respects!
DeletePrincess Catherine, how beautiful and sophisticated she is. One of the most beautiful women in the whole world. She has a deep calmness and dignity.
ReplyDeletebut the dress thou, her hat was great.
Deletej
Kate opted for the same necklace and earring combination that she wore just over a year ago for the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral. I know it’s not the time for fashion, but Kate’s outfit - especially the birdcage veil is so flattering on her.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree. Pure class and style all the way. Those pictures of her in the hat with the veil are some of the most gorgeous IMO.
DeleteChel
My thoughts exactly, she is a dignified lady. Still in awe with the choker and veil combination. Classic!
DeleteAll I can say, it was a beautiful service. All the people, her family and the military, pipe bands, etc. Such a wonderful and big event to celebrate a wonderful and very big-in-the-world lady. May King Charles' reign be just as wonderful as his mothers'. RIP Queen Elizabeth II
ReplyDeleteChe bellezze sono George e Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteRossella
I want to hug Charlotte and George!
ReplyDeletehow cute is Charlotte's hat, following in mom's foot steps
DeleteThank you for answering my question about the medals/decorations the men wore.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte is crying. Heartbroken.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte had something stung in her Eye.
DeleteLovely Kate is definitely a Queen in waiting.
ReplyDeleteLittle Charlotte looks adorable with his hat too.
What an incredible and appropriate farewell to an incredible and unforgettable lady. Thank you, Helen, for a wonderful set of photos from the day. The pipers and the corgis finished me off .
ReplyDeleteThere are also photos of the Queen's 24yo favorite horse Emma & groom standing in the field as the procession passes. Very sad. Regina

I don't like small children to be dressed in black, Even for funerals, it feels wrong. And I know I am outnumbered but that hat is way too old for little Charlotte. Kate or the nanny or whomever dressed her should have put a simple dark mourning band in her hair.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you
Delete-G-
That style of hat is very popular and common among young British school girls as part of their school uniform, so I don't see a problem with Charlotte wearing that shape and style of hat, whether it is for a funeral or otherwise. Little girls all across the UK wear that style of hat, usually in pale coloured straw with some ribbons attached to the crown of the hat.
Delete- Anon 9:13
I couldn’t disagree more. Princess Charlotte was perfectly dressed for the occasion and the hat was a plain boater like a school hat. I thought Prince George’s suit was actually navy.
DeleteI don't agree at all. I think she looked perfect.
DeleteCharlotte has always seemed more in tune with her surroundings when out in public, as opposed to the more shy/reserved nature of George. Perhaps she WANTED to wear black & a hat like the ladies. Mia Tindall & the Phillips sisters wore black, but they of course had black headbands, not hats. I think Charlotte looked just fine for this momentous once-in-a-lifetime occasion. *Regina
DeleteThe Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex are both very beautiful and elegant at this service.
ReplyDeleteNora, you have nailed it, indeed Kate is a Queen in waiting
ReplyDeleteAn Era has ended for me. One that will truly be missed, I have respected the royals my whole life.
ReplyDeleteThe Sussexduchess looked absolutely stunning
ReplyDeleteAgree 100%. No bows, no netting, no flowers and still stunning. Her McCartney dress was sophisticated and regal in its simplicity. She looked beautiful.
Delete- Anon 9:13
It was a lot of bare arm for a funeral. You’re supposed to have your elbows covered and on many moments she didn’t.
DeleteP
@P Elbows covered is not a rule.
DeleteI thought the cape dress was lovely, but hated the hat. I hated it as much when it was white and she wore it for the Jubilee (same hat/diff color). I also think she needed one additional detail - a necklace or brooch, perhaps. But, as she was away from home, and didn't have access to most of her things, what was she to do? Perhaps if she'd been on better terms with her in-laws, someone might have lent her something.
DeleteWhen on earth did we get a rule for what to wear in a funeral? Greetings from another evangelical lutheran. I have to remember that for my next funeral then.
DeleteI guess P is talking about Lady Louise right ;)
Delete@Anon 06:46 Excellent point. She mush have gotten her royals mixed up. I am certain P would know better than to hint at personal insults when the focus should be elsewhere.
Delete@Anon 06:37 For the state funeral, the "all-black dress code", if you will, was released days before the funeral: "Ladies wear black knee-length dresses, or coats, black hats, and may also wear face-covering veils."
ReplyDeleteIl suono delle cornamuse fa venire i brividi, è emozionante.
ReplyDeleteIn the close-up, (picture 24, I think) Charlotte looks strikingly like the Queen in her younger days.
ReplyDeleteThe ladies were all dressed appropriately and handsomely, but there can only be one queen - I mean queen of style - and that is Catherine, Princess of Wales. Perfection. Beautiful coat dress, great hairdo. I have to praise the perfect makeup - light and fresh. Some of the royal ladies had too much makeup - especially around the eyes, I'm surprised it didn't smudge with tears.
ReplyDeleteAnd even if it does not concern fashion, Catherine has excellently raised children. George and Charlotte behaved sweetly and impeccably.
Zuzana
Fashion wise, those looking the nicest in their attire were Zara Tindall and the Princesses of Wales, Catherine and Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess of Wales was impeccably dressed, the pearl choker, was the perfect finishing touch, she looked so elegant. The Duchess of Sussex also looked lovely the cape effect dress I love, the Navy dress the same as this is beautiful as well. Countess of Wessex, looked stunning, her coatdress with the embroidery embellishments was beautifully done. Queen Maxima and Silvia looked immaculately groomed.
ReplyDeleteMeghans outfit is nice but the dress part doesn't fit well.
ReplyDeleteCharlene from Monaco's dress looked horrid with those huge pockets on the side. (not easy to see in the photo on this site). Everyone else got it right, even Fergie was appropriate, though Megan should have covered her arms rather than wear long gloves which accentuated the fact she had no sleeves on the upper arm.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, as someone from the same faith as the Queen. There are NONE, NOT a single rule of what we can wear to church or to a funeral. Meghan as all the rest was perfectly dressed for the occation.
DeleteSo Meghan is showing to much arm, but not Lady Louise...hmmm I guess we know where this came from.
DeleteI thought the same myself. Lady Louise's neckline was to low and her dress had short sleeves. So please don't criticize Meghan this time. She had a perfect attitude for a funeral.
DeleteA sea of black dresses and somber faces. Everyone looked good. The fashions are not as important today, but why they are worn is. To say goodbye to a grand Lady. A promise given a promise kept. May yoe RIP YM. css
ReplyDeleteElegante, ma un modello già visto alle regine Maxima e Matilde.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte was my favorite. The Princess of Wales looked so very lovely, every element perfect. Sophie's coat (coat dress?) was so amazing, but unfortunately most pictures didn't show the detail enough. But, really, the entire day's events were the real stand out - funeral was lovely, everyone participating doing their parts - all the service men & women, the pageantry, the service was poignant (I cried!). Lovely.
ReplyDeletePoor Charlene never catches a break. I think she looked lovely on Alberts arm!
ReplyDeleteI think our lovely royals ladies hoped they did HMQ proud, in whatever they felt was appropriate and comfortable! From what I saw, they each looked beautiful! Funerals are horrible at the best of times, but to have the global media streaming and analysing your sartorial choices must be equally daunting!
ReplyDeletePrincess Charlotte was the stand out for me ! Comfortable and confident wearing her first hat and piece of jewellery in public ! Both children are a credit to William and Catherine!

ReplyDeleteWhere do you trump up such nonsence from. Lady Louise had a dress on with short sleeves and a fairly low neckline. Apparenly you fid that OK. You must have been at your wits end to find something unpleasant to comment on. Really she had about 15 cm pf bare arm showing. This is 2022 remember.
This is still a fashion blog. When someone said Meghan was showing to much arms, you may say that she was not the only one. This has nothing to do with fashion or dress codes for funerals or religion, but with respect and decency. Every common human being with a bit of education knows that you don't go to a funeral like that. Even not in 2022. I went to a funeral myself during the same period that Queen Elizabeth passed away. The dress code was not even black, but every participant at the civil ceremony (the ceremony was not held in church) was dressed in darker or subdued colors, there was not any woman with naked arms or a low neckline.
ReplyDeleteWhat say you about Lady Louise, all knowing and wise arbiter of *state* funerals? I believe Lady Louise has had an excellent education thus far, debunking the theory that "Every common human being with a bit of education knows that you don't go to a funeral like that." She is also a member of the royal family, so she has the best guidance in what is appropriate to wear by experts in this area. Her dress was low cut with shorter sleeves. It was also more casual in nature. How do you compare the two dresses? How did Louise show more "respect and decency" with her dress than Meghan did?
DeleteBoris Johnson's wife, Carrie, is being called out for wearing a "low cut" dress, yet she had long sleeves. Louise's dress appears to dip lower than Carrie's does. I really would love your thoughts. I am of the school that nothing scandalous was showing, shoulders were covered in the church, all were in black, and most importantly, they were all there to pay their respects to a beloved woman.
There is nothing wrong with Meghans dress or Lady Louise for that matter. Stop this bs. They both dressed respectly and decent every human being not filled with hate sees that. I have been to a lot of funerals in my life and people have dressed from everything like a suit, modest dresses and shortsleeved top/dresses and low neckline. I have even seen people in a nice pair of jeans. I have, never ever in my life heard that wearing showing your arm was disrespect. I and the rest must have missed that memo...
DeleteIn my country women don't go to funerals with a low neckline especially not when the funeral ceremony is held in a church. That is all I can say. I never said I was an expert in state funerals and I do not hate anyone.
DeleteAs this is a fashion blog I'm entitled to give you my opinion about how some participants at Queen Elisabeth's funeral are dressed. Since I didn't saw pictures of all the participants (like Boris Johnson's wife) I just said something about the pictures I saw.
But on this blog there are too much people who are not reasonable. One cannot give an opinion on how the members of the British royal family are dressed or one's words are twisted or they call you a hater, etc...
The first argument was that Meghan was showing too much arm. Now we have moved onto low necklines? Let's stop nit picking and remember why they were there. No one went there to be disrespectful.
ReplyDeleteA bit late but I just noticed the Queen of Bhutan is wearing pearls as a mark of respect to the Queen.
