On April 26, 2025, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Crown Princess Amalia, and Princess Alexia attended the celebration of King’s Day 2025 in Doetinchem, Gelderland Province, together with other members of the Dutch Royal Family. King’s Day is the national holiday celebrating the King’s birthday on April 27. If April 27 falls on a Sunday, King’s Day is celebrated on the previous day.
Princess Laurentien, Prince Constantijn, Prince Bernhard, Princess Annette, Princess Marilene, Prince Pieter-Christiaan, Princess Anita, Prince Floris, and Princess Aimee were present at the 2025 King’s Day celebrations. Queen Máxima wore an ensemble by Natan. Princess Amalia wore a sky-blue dress by Ralph Lauren. Princess Alexia wore a black skirt by Maje and carried her mother’s Delvaux bag.
Queen’s very ‘60 vibe, love it, great colour. CP nice colour a tad too short it throws the proportions off. Alexia more avant guard , a style she is leaning toward and Princess L, I like her choice, she dialled it back a bit, very nice. Overall each bringing their style to the party. The king loves his girls.
ReplyDeletei think its first time are seeing Amalia in a short dress, what beautiful legs!!
DeleteOh wow… Her Majesty looks absolutely glorious from head to toe. I think both Princesses look fantastic too. I did wonder why the King and Queen were not at the funeral, but this clearly could not be delayed. LRB
ReplyDeleteReally? if was a relative it would of been delayed.
DeleteThe Dutch royal family is not Catholic, so it makes sense.
DeleteT
There is a part of me that would have liked seeing Maxima at Pope Francis' funeral because she is an Argentinean Catholic, but she has put family over duty--and I consider this a family event more than duty. I have been very critical of the British royals for having a history of duty before family, so I cannot be a hypocrite. To be honest, the Holy Father would have probably told Maxima to skip his funeral to be with her family. The Dutch royals are very good about making appearances at funerals, memorials, and commemorations. While this is a big funeral, they have a history of doing the right thing.
DeleteI expected Maxima to go to the funeral, afteral, she is a Catholic..so am disappointed, or Ariane, she studies in Italy, she could have gone..
DeleteThe Popes funeral is not only something that concerns catholics. This is a state funeral where all heads of states, catholics or noncatholics, are present to pay their respects. The Dutch not showing up is as if they had not attended the funeral of Queen Elisabeth II
DeleteWell 20 years ago King Charles delayed his own wedding a day to attend the popes funeral.
DeleteAnon 18 05, I agree with you.. I too believe that Pope Francis would have said to Maxima to celebrate this important national day with her family.

DeleteThey all look gorgeous
ReplyDeleteNo color coordination between the princesses and the queen, individual pretty but as a total a bit messy
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous 16:30
DeleteThey are all wearing something blue. So there is color coordination.
No color coordination !? Not enough blue, rather widespread ! A wide range of blue IMV. I like it as a change from extensive orange. They all look good.
DeleteOoh beg to disagree. The blues are harmonious and the colour tones match beautifully. The bigger clash is with the crowds in orange but I think that’s all part of the fun!
DeleteYou may need a new monitor.
DeleteAnd here I was thinking how well coordinated they are. Even Princess Laurentien is matching the rest which is unusual!
DeletePrincess Alexia is wearing Queen Maxima's old hanbag by Belgian brand Delvaux. This handbag can still be bought, the shape didn't change.
ReplyDeleteCP Amalia's dress is too short. It looks better on the model. She should have worn it on the knees or just under the knees.
ReplyDeleteFor godness sake, let these young royals dress like young people. We can handle knees, thighs and cleavages. After all we have seen crown princesses and queens older then them showing us their pride and glory 😉
DeleteI disagree! She is still very young and should be allowed to dress her age, which includes shorter dresses. She has already had to give up so much because of her birthright, let's not demand that she dress like an older woman before her age dictates. Ironically, you say the dress looked better on the model, yet it is shorter on the model, the very thing you don't like about it on Amalia. I wish we would get away from "should". I think there are too many imagined so-called rules for royals that may have been valid decades ago, but do not apply now.
DeleteI agree with the discussant 17:00, the dress looks better on the model, not because Amalia is a princess, but because this dress requires a very slim figure - like the model has.
DeleteThe color suits her very well.

I think if a length of skirt is flattering or good, doesnot depend on your age but on your body type: see Madme Macron next to Amalia: who can wear short skirts?
DeleteThe CP has obviously worked hard to make herself slimmer and fitter, I hope for health grounds alone. She has every reason to be proud of her new figure and she looks strong and healthy, and at her age showing off a little leg is quite acceptable. LRB
DeleteAnd the most conservative of all, Princess Anne:

@Anon 18:55, "this dress requires a slim figure" - really? this dress hides about everything except the legs :-)) . She looks fabulous and happy.
DeleteSo true, Anon 17:46…if she wore a longer dress some would complain about that! She’s young and beautiful so why not wear a shorter dress? She has has the legs for it!
DeleteCP Amalia looks great. The dress is a lovely colour and style and the shoes are gorgeous but I do think it would look better if a little longer. Nothing to do with age, just the overall look. As LRB says, the Princess has obviously worked hard to get her great figure and her confidence has increased as a result. I’m delighted that she feels confident enough to wear this outfit but it doesn’t change the fact that slightly longer would be more elegant.
Delete15 days ago in Paris she wore a long dress with boots.
DeleteWith each having their own likes and style it would of been difficult task.
Paloma.
Agree, those 'chest pockets' are sporty casual, while the rest of the outfit is more sophisticated. Not a good look, nor are the huge earrings on Laurentien.
DeleteEverybody looks good and extremely colour coordinated (which I personally do not expect at all). As for the length of Amalia's dress: The public part of her teenage years were spent in sometimes tent.like dresses that were meant to hide her overweight. I am happy that now she can give herself a little fun with things she missed earlier. She looks pretty and happy. Good.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely, and she has beautiful legs so why not show them off. The blue is gorgeous on her!MR
DeleteExactly! This is a sign that she is feeling good about herself.
DeleteBelle variété de bleus de sortie ; Amalia est vêtue d'une robe dont la longueur nous montre ses superbes jambes ; sa tante Laurentien ne me surprend pas du tout !
ReplyDeleteThat this dress does not flatter Amalia is not a question of age. It is a question of bodytype.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity that Ariane was not there.
Maxima looks wonderful!
Die Prinzessinen wirken seit Jahren bei jedem Auftritt arrogant. Keine Ahnung warum.
ReplyDeleteDeshalb vermisse ich Ariane. Sie scheint ein angenehmes und freundliches Wesen zu haben.
DeleteIt's surprising that the Dutch Royals chose to party instead of attending the funeral, especially since Maxima is an Argentinian and a Catholic. Maxima wearing Natan of course, the color is good but doesn't fit her well, why those pockets!. Amalia is in full party mode, Alexia is the only one that looks fresh and modern.
ReplyDeleteActually I think Alexia’s outfit is drab and too old for her.
Delete@22:07 My goodness, can we let it rest. King's Day is a national holiday in the Netherlands, which they're not about to change for a pope's funeral. Wax & Max made their decision, they sided with their people. It is what it is. The Dutch people at the occasion seem happy enough with their royal family's decision to be there. Max may be Catholic, but not every Catholic wanted to go to that funeral.
DeleteFrederik didn't cut short his trip to Japan. Whoever went to the funeral, went. Mary is happy cuz she got a front seat.
And... considering Amalia was bending over to greet people in wheelchairs & throwing balls around, her dress is too short for this occasion. JMHO.
~Ruthie
22:07 Maxima is Dutch, her background is Argentinian. The Netherlands day of celebration is a fantastic day that many benefit from; have a read up on it and I think you’ll see there was no question for the Dutch. Watching the royals gives us a chance to learn about different cultures!
DeleteThey did not choose to party, it’s a national holiday at which millions of people have been waiting for for months. You cannot simply postpone it and besides, there were too many attention grabbing people in Rome anyway…
DeleteThey did not choose to party, it’s a national holiday at which millions of people have been waiting for for months. You cannot simply postpone it and besides, there were too many attention grabbing people in Rome anyway…
Delete“ chose to party”??!! This is thé national day in the Netherlands!
DeleteThe Royal family visits a different town each year where the inhabitants are making preparations for there visit a long time before hand, so they cannot not arrive.
And : the Netherlands are very much a Protestant country with a Protestant Royal family who have fought for their freedom of religion ages ago!
Máxima might be a Catholic privately, but she is Queen of a country that is everything but not dominantly Catholic and decidedly separates Church from State. One third confess to be Christian and just a small part of that one third is Catholic, recognising the Pope as Head of their Church. So what is this all about, criticising Máxima for fulfilling her duty as Queen instead of going to Rome as a private person? This is absurd.
DeleteThe festivities around Kingsday are months in the making. They cannot be postponed. It has actually been moved a day to prevent a disturbance of Sunday's rest. The suggestion that the King or Queen could have skipped it would have snubbed a community that has put much time and effort in this. Sending a fringe royal is also problematic as who would this person represent? It would not be the Dutch state and why would a protestant royal house need a representation there? The Netherlands sent their prime minister and the minister of foreign affairs instead.
DeleteGreat look for all the RL. I do like Maximas's dress but not so much the pockets on the front, they seem to be out of place OMO. Amalia looks great maybe the dress could be a little longer and her sandals are more for the evening. Alexis is
ReplyDeletea totally different style, even like the leather jacket. Only Ariana was absent.

I really love Laurentian's outfit--it's beautiful and very Spring-like. She does look a bit underdressed compared to the other royal ladies but perhaps, in person, the fabrics are more luxurious than I can see. Queen Maxima has a fabulous hairdo today! I love the look of her outfit except for the front of the jacket/top--the pockets and that area of the top are too boxy and have an odd look like the whole thing is standing out and up on its own. Still, she looks marvelous. Amalia is gorgeous in that pale blue shade and I think she's a beautiful young woman who can wear short skirts if she wants. Alexia is exactly what others have called more avant garde than her sister or mother--her leather biker jacket looks wonderful on her and I love how she's accessorized it with the red shoes and purse. It also looks great with the more formal fabrics of her skirt and top. All in all the celebration looks so much fun for everyone!
ReplyDeleteJanet
The Royal ladies look beautiful. Love the Natan outfit, the color is wonderful. I don't mind the design, Maxima wears it with flair. CP Amalia looks splendid. Princess Ariane looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteMaxima at her best in my view. What a lovely fifties dress. Amalia looks fine although I am not that fond of the cape. King's day is a national holiday in the Netherlands. The King and his family visit a different city every year. Preparations for this celebration take a year. So really it was a duty for the King and his family to stay in the Netherlands instead of going to Rome. They postponed the King's celebrstion 2 hors so that everyone could see the funeral of the pope. A very elegant solution
ReplyDeleteThank you for explaining it more clearly, they did honour the pope and showed respect for his position in the world.
DeleteKing; handsome
ReplyDeleteMaxima; Those chest pockets are total distraction from what this outfit could be, sophisticated. The added hairpiece (bun) looks nice.
Amalia; Age is not an issue. The strappy sandals, inappropriate for the occasion, as is the short dress where playing games, walking, and bending over in public are part of the day. The colour is spot on. The shape of the dress made for a thin woman, not one with natural curves, especially at the hip area.
Alexia; Outfit ok, especially the low-heeled shoes, for the occasion.
Laurentien; Outfit nice, except the extremely large earrings a no from me.
Edwina
Wow CP Amalia seems to have lost a lot of weight! But then the young Princess has been put through the wringer this past year, and worry can do that to a person no matter their age!
ReplyDeleteI think the whole family look wonderful and joyous! No better fitting way to honour the late Pope than living by his example of bringing people and communities together.
Lowri.
