At least her outfits are never boring, and she is always so happy. A real people person.

Never boring, but always ridiculous. This is a business meeting organized by the government, look how everyone is formal. Only Maxi wears her huge hat inside the hall, her huge feathers and huge earrings and does not care about basic protocol. She has always been an attention seeker.

No, she isn't ridiculous. Claiming that is the opinion of an ill-humoured, narrow-minded person. Maxima is elegant, chic and a real plus for the Dutsch royal family. The former Queen Beatrix understood that very well.

I agree with 22:06. Máxima seems to enjoy the focus being on her no matter who else maybe more important is there. Just because she can do it doesn't mean she should. She should've been reined in a bit years ago - it's too late now. ~~Ruthie

@Anon 23:03 What "protocol" are you speaking of? Kindly provide the link to this nonsense.
Do you really not know that women keep their hats on inside? There are different rules for men and women. The only reason a woman would be expected to remove her hat is if it is blocking the view of someone behind her. That is not the case here. By the way, they are not dressed formally. Formal attire is black tie. Maxima is dressed for the luncheon she is attending. There is no "protocol" (you are using the wrong word) regarding her necklace and earrings. While they are not what most of us would choose, she is within her rights to wear them. They are very much her style, and designed by Natan, the designer of her dress.

It seems you still have so much to learn in your life.
Saying that someone looks ridiculous- be it a royal member or not- is sheer bad form.
You could have expressed your thoughts in a much more elegant way.
If Maxima looks to be an attention seeker in your eyes, you do not seem to be any better.
She may be overkill sometimes but never ill - tempered and crass like you sound in your comments.
Besides, you always fail to get basic correct information about the people and the events showcased on this blog.
      Please, educate yourself.
      I do agree with @ Anonymous 01:35 and@ 06:32.

      Dear @ Ruthie- 02;06

      I am all ears.
      Thank you.

The lady on the far right is wearing a fascinator as well. The protocol is that if a lady is wearing a hat, she keeps it on indoors unless she's in her own home. You will probably have seen many pictures of QEII at luncheons and the like (including in environments like the White House where no-one else wears a hat) keeping her hat on.

I would find it a bit repressive if Maxima were 'reined in' for the crime of wearing a hat or a feathered necklace!

      Oh, sorry,
      @Ruthie 02:06 , you wrote " reined in" , fancy that!
I am curious as to what you suggest as repressive methods to " rein in" a Queen ...
I wish you lived a bit of years ago yourself and experienced what you said, though I can't imagine from what corner of the world you come from...
You know , there are still a lot of countries where also common people are deprived of their basic human rights and Freedom and " reigned in" till death.
Are you aware of that or do you just throw random comments like that without weighing your words?

You can accept whatever pleases you..
As for me, I would never accept a patriarchal and repressive mindset.
I will always cherish and hold dear the most basic principles of Democracy and Freedom.
That's what I was thought since my early childhood and I am so thankful to God for being blessed with wonderful parents who allowed me to study and see the world since I came of age.
They were so amazingly open- minded and the
echo of their words still lives proudly inside of me.
I would have felt miserabile without their support and good examples.
I was even more blessed for being born in a democratic country , which had to suffer incredibile hardship on all fronts throughout the two World Wars in particular and also throughout all of its history.
A country who lost a good deal of Patriots fighting in the sacred name of Freedom and Justice for all.
I still can't make out why some obnoxious comments are being tolerated and getting published.
      Yuk.

I love that Maxima is doing lot of rewears of her very expensive clothes. She is an example for sustainability. I think all the female royals could do more in this field. The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries and exploit people in poor countries

  8. The actual dress, style and fit looks good, but the yellow feathers are a no. The rich color of her dress is gorgeous, I love this color, suits her well.
The earrings I dislike. Her hat looks wonderful, she wears this style well. Her up-style hair with this hat, I prefer, very elegant and well groomed.

    4. The expression “more is more and less is boring” comes from the American, OTT, flamboyant, zany fashion designer Iris Apfel.
She makes Queen Max’s fashion choices look very modest and dull.
She said about herself at the age of 101 “I see myself as the world’s oldest living teenager”

As far as I know, there are not many interiors pics on the net.
Duivenvoorde Castle can be visited inside too but tours are available only in Dutch.
I know many tourists prefer to visit the magnificent gardens and see the imposing exterior of the castle.
Anyway, you can just see a few pics of breathtaking rooms on the net.
Sometimes this Castle Is used as a location for weddings.

I only wish to say something about the hat. Wearing a hat inside for a short stay like a business lunch is tradition in The Netherlands as well as in Belgium. Queen Maxima as well as Queen Mathilde received these negative comments in the past. These comments are coming from people who don't know nothing about the traditions of both courts. In the old days Queens did not participate in the business talk between kings of different states. Today it is different, Queens are not creatures that have to sit down gracefully and shut up for the rest of the lunch. They are up to date ladies who have studied and are aware of the subjects which will be discussed. Queen Maxima and Queen Mathilde are 2 examples of such queens. Before during the reign of their ancestors, you would not have seen pictures of these gatherings with other heads of state. The media were not invited inside the palaces or castles. These days some people have always criticism on royal ladies like Maxima and Mathilde no matter what they are wearing. If they wear each time a new dress or outfit, they receive comments about the facts that in the times we live they should give the example not to buy so many new things. If they are wearing their older dresses, they must hear they are too short or too tight, or too..... Well dresses like this can be worn again and are fashion again. I prefer a royal lady with a shorter dress than a dress that is always too long, especially when their is nothing wrong with their legs.

Well said. The length of her dress is certainly preferable over the ankle dusters a few of the RLs wear. She has great legs and there is nothing indecent about showing them. The days of women being slaves to hemlines are over. Where there was once defined hemlines during certain periods, hemlines are varied now.

  15. Love the colour of this dress and while the jewellery is not what I would choose, I think it goes with both Queen Maxima’s extrovert personality and with the dress. The hat is OTT for sure but very much her style and as mentioned above the correct etiquette for a formal reception is to wear a hat indoors. Deadeggs, love the Iris Apfel quote. As I head towards my 70s, I think I’ll take it as my motto 😂

Paloma.

I like the fit of the dress, and I like the hat, if only it was a little smaller. I am not a Natan fan but this queen makes it work. To understand wearing hats in this day and age when woman do not wear a hat to go out, or even to church, can be difficult. I like that there is some sense of decorum left in the world, be it my taste or not.
