On Friday, April 11, 2025, The Duchess of Edinburgh attended the Sovereign's Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in Camberley. Following King Charles and Queen Camilla’s state visit to Italy, the Duchess of Edinburgh represented the King at the Sovereign's Parade. The Duchess inspected the troops of CC242 ahead of the parade. Members of the Royal Family usually attend one in every three Sovereign’s Parades at the academy, which are held three times a year.

One of those very british hats, applied at an unexpected, slightly awkward angle , as if they were ready to fly away - I don't like them that much, but! it looks terrific on Sophie! but it looks terrific on Sophie, who somehow manages to look more beautiful by the day. The coat could be a tad shorter, but hey, this is the Duchess of Edinburgh, who mostly wears them clothes just like that: a tad too long.

Haha so right! Hat looks great on her but in profile, that type of hat looks silly. They wear ‘em anyway :)

What a lovely color, hat and coat for a special parade! I do think the upper sleeves would look better if they were roomier. She sure knows how to enjoy her new job.

I see what you mean about the sleeve, a tad too tight.and I like the length on the model, so a few inches shorter would of been nice. I bet Lady Louise would look fabulous in this.

  5. Wow she looks fantastic!! I love everything... Well except the length, but this is so her that I don't mind.
Most importantly: I want to look like her at 60!!!

  6. This is perfection! I love the light blue color on the Duchess and even the hat adds to the overall look. Very polished! This is minor but I would prefer the coat to be just a bit shorter. Overall, wonderful!!!

Fabulous coatdress and fabulous colour. I love those pleats in the back. Sophie looks great!
As for the hat, even though Sophie looks OK in it, I think these saucer, or half-saucer, pieces worn at an unnaturally sharp angle on the side of the head always look a bit silly to me. I'd have preferred a more conventional hat style, and there are so many beautiful, stylish kinds to choose from.

It does seem surprising that he would not, given that this is “the sovereign’s parade”, held at Britain’s premier military academy. But, I’m sure there must be a reasonable explanation.

I think you could have found info by googling on your own.
Anyway, I'm going to attach something at the end of this comment which may hopefully clarify this point.
If you consider that King Charles has been abroad on his official State Visit to Italy until Tuesday, April 10 and the Duchess carried out this engagement the following day, it can be reasonably inferred that Prince William acted as a sort of temporary " Regent" in his father's place.
He might have been chosen from the appointed Counsellors of State to take over his father's duties not only till Tuesday but most likely also over the weekend.
Your statement sounds like you are saying that the heir to the throne is reluctant to take over his father's obligations.
      No, you are wrong.
Nobody knows for sure why Princess Catherine didn't attend the Sovereign's Parade.
As a matter of fact, " Regency" is another type of office ,which has nothing to do with temporarily substituting for a Monarch outside the United Kingdom.
On the contrary, " Regency" is largely practised in Denmark, for example, and is quite different from " Regency" in the UK.
Hope that the explanation below can "enlight" you.

      ** Counsellors of State
In the case of temporary incapacity or absence from the UK, then the monarch can appoint “Counsellors of State” to act on his behalf via Letters Patent.

These are all members of the Royal Family who have reached the age of 21 (except the heir to the Throne, who only needs to be 18). Two or more can carry out most Royal functions. They cannot, however, create peers or dissolve Parliament without the express permission of the monarch.

A Regency has not been required in the UK in more than 200 years. Counsellors of State, however, have often carried out Royal functions. In February 1974, for example, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret declared a state of emergency and dissolved Parliament.

It can also be reasonably inferred that Prince William, in taking over his father's obligations, has been carrying out his office in London to be at disposal in case of particular institutional occurences.

    4. The King and Queen had been out of country, and the Wales Family is on Easter holidays with their kids. That is why someone from the Edinburghs had to step in. Engagements like this one are scheduled way, way ahead of the actual date, and the offices (like BP, KP) will try to make things work and determine who can be present for what. It is a process of decision making with many inputs from various sides. When it becomes clear that the king cannot go because of other commitments, with the Prince and Princess of Wales unavailable as well, then the chalice passes on to the next high ranking working royal. Usually the Princess Royal, the Edinburghs, or the Gloucesters. Simple as that.

If the Waleses are having some time off as a family, I am very happy for all of them.
Quality time spent with their children Is the best gift William and Catherine can do to their kids.
I think that the Waleses are making up for lost time.
I can hardly imagine what their kids must have experienced at the time their mother was going through the hell of her illness.
The Waleses will resume their scheduled engagements ASAP, I think.
Moreover, they couldn't have planned anything without the Monarch's consent.
      Well done to them.

I so wanted to love this look, but it’s the length that lets the look down. The model version is perfect. If Sophie is paying top dollar price for an item of clothing then she needs to get it fitted to her frame. It’s not like she’s buying the item off the rack.
The hat does nothing for the look,it’s too whimsical and better suited to Ascot or a garden party. A fuller plain hat would have looked perfect.
I truly wish Sophie would get a stylist who could guide her and show what looks fabulous on her great figure and what to stay away from.

Maybe she does have a stylist Lowri, but that stylist is not putting Sophie in the styles you prefer, but rather those which she prefers as the wearer?

I find this "get a stylist" comment each time really hilarious. We give our personal opinion here, which is not a generally valid verdict. So XY should get a stylist in order to dress in a way that pleases some internet blog follower? I also don't like this type of hat, they look like an accident (like piece of fabric blown onto someone's head by the wind), but the Duchess can put them on her lovely head as much as she pleases and a lot of people will like it.

21:59 and 22:56. That’s my opinion and I stick by it. I commented just in the same way you thought it ok to comment on my post. The difference being my points were on fashion, being this is a fashion blog. Your comments were aimed at berating mine, which is neither appropriate nor welcomed. Let’s stick to fashion and the ‘each to their own’ mantra!

Sophie looks lovely. A pity her coat dress is too long as usual, but when you look at the model the skirt of her coat dress is narrower than the one Sophie wears. I prefer the narrow one. The pleats in the back are not practical. Every time when she will sit down the pleats will be wrinkled. I like the hat. Queen Mathilde has about the same model of hat which she wears in the same way Duchess Sophie wears it, except on Mathilde's hat there are no feathers.

Pure elegance. Beautiful color for Sophie. I know many of you will criticize the length of the coat, but these designer coats are made for tall women, Sophie is less than 170 cm. But everything else is great - fresh skin, smile, I want to look like her when I'm 60.
But the most praise deserves her dignity, no drama, no whining and complaining. Sophie, Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Anne, these are women that every king and queen would like to have on their team.
Of the younger ladies, I see a resemblance in Sophie from Sweden.
