The Belgian Royal Family Completes Their Pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago

King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, Prince Gabriel, Princess Eléonore, and Prince Emmanuel

Belgian King Philippe and his family have been walking a section of the famous Camino de Santiago each year around Easter since 2017. The Belgian Royal Family arrived in Santiago as pilgrims after completing the French Way of the Camino on April 16, 2025, thus concluding their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Prince Emmanuel sprained his ankle during the walk and completed the route using crutches.

Must have been delightful the whole family on an outing. This is such a lovely family. Elisabeth must still be at Harvard. Emmanuel wanted to finish what he started even if it was on crutches, good for him. Hope he feels better. I also like to wish King Philippe a very happy 70st Birthday

    Wow, the boys are tall!

It's lovely to see that two last pictures, they look just like any family being tourists. It could be my parents.

What lovely family photos. I really admire HRH P Emmanuel for finishing the walk on crutches. May St. James pray for quick healing for him.

On a different note, HRH P Gabriel looks like he may have grown even taller than HMK Felipe!!

I love that they did this! The Camino (as it's known in short) is a fantastic experience. It begins from the moment you step out your house door to begin the journey, and there are so many ways and routes to do it. So many of our friends have done it and their stories have been amazing; some have taken routes that last 2 weeks, others that last 2 months. I can't wait to do it one day after I eventually retire and have more time to plan it out and enjoy the experience.

Yes, I think this would be an amazing experience and I hope I'll manage to plan it out one day as well.
I regret not having enough time to go there and on other religious tours before though I've been travelling so much for most of my life so far.
I also hope I'll manage to visit the Lourdes Sanctuary.
I feel so attracted by Lourdes and the Massabielle Grotto in particular.
People making this pilgrimage have reported extraordinary spiritual experiences there and I'm not talking only about certified miracles.

What a wonderfull thing to do as a family!
And so much more relaxed with the press photographers than the Dutch royals!

Too bad for Emmanuel. Love these pictures: a low profile family spending quality time together walking the famous camino. No fuss, just low-key. I hope they enjoyed it.

I’m very happy for king Philippe, who had a very lonely childhood, that he has this warm loving family now and they can enjoy these kind of outings with each other.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde built this warm loving family. From the first day of his engagement King Philippe said he and Queen Mathilde would work together as a team. From their first child CP Elisabeth we saw already the love and warmth they both felt for this child. They did everything like common parents do. They educated and supported all their children in the same way. Today you see the result of their way of bringing up their children. The king and queen created this warm family themselves nobody did it for them.

No I don't, but I am sure you could google it. Prince Emmanuel is tall too. There are people who say that Queen Mathilde is taller than the king and therefore cannot wear stiletto's any more. Here one can see that Mathilde is not taller than King Philippe pict N°6)... Princess Eléonore is tall too. Princess Elisabeth who is not present is the shortest one .

They have finished now the camino. They started in 2017 and did each year another part. They just stopped in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic. From 2022 on they went back each year.
