As she does every year, Queen Sofía visited several regions of Spain during Holy Week. On April 17, 2025, she traveled to Seville to witness the Madrugá, one of the most emblematic nights of the celebration, taking place from late Holy Thursday into Good Friday. The Queen toured various sites in Seville’s historic center and visited the Basilica de la Macarena.

Holy Week in Seville has been celebrated since the 16th century. The early hours from Holy Thursday into Good Friday, known as La Madrugá, represent the most significant moment of the entire week. The last time Queen Sofía toured the brotherhoods of the Andalusian capital was in 1984, alongside King Juan Carlos.

Holy Week in Seville (Semana Santa de Sevilla) is one of the two largest annual festivals in the city. The central events of Semana Santa are the brotherhood processions, known as estación de penitencia (stations of penance), during which participants travel from their home churches or chapels to the Cathedral of Seville and back. The celebration takes place in the week leading up to Easter, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.

The Roman soldiers look-a-like costumes are odd. Their feathers are really big. They are wearing a kind of pink body under their uniform. Their sandals are a bad copy of Roman sandals.

The time you mention is not corresponding to any of the comments.
Nobody make fun of the Holy Week traditions, just saying that the costumes of the Roman soldiers are not looking good. Too artificial not corresponding to the real ones. Especially the pink body is ridiculous.
