At the invitation of President Luong Cuong, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are paying a state visit to Vietnam from April 1 to 3, 2025. On the second day of their visit to Vietnam, Queen Mathilde visited the National Hospital of Pediatrics in Hanoi, an institution that cooperates with several Belgian institutions: the Queen Fabiola Children’s University Hospital, the Université libre de Bruxelles and the Haute école Léonard de Vinci. Belgium and Vietnam have been working together for over 30 years in the field of health.
Paloma.
The upper part looks like a traditional Vietnamese design, very beautiful. The colour works very well. It is worn over classic trousers, so the combination looks like a dress except from the side, which I think is a bit odd but might be traditional. I like this neckline on Queen Mathilde, it accentuates her face very well combined with this hairstyle.

My she looks lovely. She is in her element with children.
ReplyDeleteLOVE, love, love this outfit!! Gorgeous!
Mathilde’s ao dai is gorgeous! For me, this style is the best look for her hair ever.
ReplyDeleteTrès jolie dans cette tenue avec un air traditionnel ; j'aime beaucoup la voir parmi les enfants !
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde, you look great!
ReplyDeleteBefore visiting the children's hospital she and King Philippe went to a coffee house to drink the typiclal Vietnamese coffee. When seeing their faces on the video I think they found the coffee much too strong.
ReplyDeleteAbout the ao dai I discovered the following :
Queen Mathilde had it made by her dress maker Meer Couture in Belgium.
Silk pants in off white are worn underneath a blue dress with embroidered white flowers. The dark color (blue) is worn by rich married women. It can also be another dark color.
She wore a navy handbag by Dior, navy nubuck high heels and pearl earrings.
It is a beautiful dress and Queen Mathilde is very beautiful styled like that.
The outfit is nice, but the High Heels are downgrading it ... especially in the context with short people ... IMHO
ReplyDeleteyes these heels are getting tiresome, and not suitable for this Vietnamese inspired dress.
DeleteFootwear with Ao Dai:
DeleteTraditional Vietnamese sandals or heels are the most appropriate choices for footwear. The goal is to maintain the áo dài’s elongated silhouette, so avoid chunky or casual shoes.

Good style isn’t about height—it’s about owning the look. She’s rocking the heels because she likes them, not because of anyone’s height standards.
DeleteWhile it is a very pretty outfit and fits her well, I do have mixed feelings about royals who try to copy local dress when they are abroad. It might be different if the outfit was made by a Vietnamese designer. In that case the designer would benefit from international exposure, but here we learn that it was made in Belgium. Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way? (V.M.)

DeleteThe ao dai is not wearing the label "made in Belgium" it is made by Saïd Meer of Meer Couture who has a private business in Brussels. He already made different clothes for Queen Mathilde and also for Princess Eléonore when she was a little girl. His work is very much appreciated and he can make anything his clients want. I am sure he informed himself about the ao dai before starting to make one for Queen Mathilde. Brussels is an international city with people, business, shops, stores, etc... of different nationalities and origins. There are still a few real Belgian fashion houses where Queen Mathilde buys sometimes a dress, a coat or something else : Marie-Méro, Caroline Biss, etc... these can wear the label "made in Belgium". Of course you also have Natan Couture which is Belgian, Fabienne Delvigne a Belgian hatmaker etc... where Queen Mathilde is a client too.
I think Queen Mathilde looks beautiful in her ao dai! I think it fits her perfectly and the color choices are also wonderful for her. Her hairstyle is perfect. She looks so happy with the children--really joyful.

Oh dear, Queen Mathilde is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis hairstyle suits her face and makes it stand out more, and the midnight blue colour is really nice on her too.
I love the embroidery on her top, which I think is Asian-inspired.
-Astrid.
