Crown Princess Leonor of Spain is continuing her naval training as a midshipman aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, which she joined on January 11. The Crown Princess is currently en route to El Callao (Peru) after a stop in Chile. The Royal Household of Spain has released several photos of the Crown Princess aboard the ship, showing her participating in various activities, both individually and with fellow midshipmen.
Princess Leonor and her classmates attended a session where sailors discussed the life and legacy of Blas de Lezo, a distinguished naval officer who, during his long career at sea, spent nearly a decade navigating and defending the Pacific coasts and maritime routes of Chile, Peru, and Ecuador.
Midshipmen aboard Juan Sebastián Elcano complete part of their third-year curriculum at sea, taking courses such as Navigation, Astronomy, Meteorology, Amphibious Operations, Combat Support and Services, and Seamanship. They also take part in daily operations and maneuvers alongside the ship’s regular crew, which includes 20 officers, 20 non-commissioned officers, 130 enlisted personnel, and two civilian instructors.
It’s inspiring to see Crown Princess Leonor embracing her naval training so fully. Her commitment to learning and participating alongside her fellow midshipmen reflects a strong sense of duty and discipline. It’s also impressive how the midshipmen are immersed in practical, real-world applications of their studies, especially with such a diverse and experienced crew aboard the Juan Sebastián Elcano. The combination of academic courses and hands-on learning is a solid foundation for their future roles in the navy.
