On April 1, 2025, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway received the Bardu and Målselv bunad from Målselv Municipality at a ceremony held at the municipal building in Moen. Upon arrival, she was welcomed by Mayor Martin Nymo, Youth Council leader Jens Martin Samson Rognli, and Police Chief John-Kåre Granheim.
Mayor Martin Nymo presented the bunad on behalf of the Målselv municipal council. From the late 1700s, many people emigrated to Målselvdalen from Gudbrandsdalen, Østerdalen, Oppdal, and Helgeland. The Bardu and Målselv bunad traces its roots back to the first settlers and is inspired by traditional clothing from these regions.
The national costumes of Norway are simply gorgeous. The floral embroidery looks so delicate, great craftsmanship. An old siluette, but certainly not outdated. What a wonderful and thoughtful gift to the Princess.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I hope we will see her wear it. (V.M.)
