On April 16, 2025, Queen Margrethe turns 85. To mark the occasion, the Royal Court released two new official birthday portraits of the Queen, taken at Fredensborg Palace. In the portraits, Queen Margrethe is seen wearing the Daisy Brooch, which she first wore at her own wedding in 1967. At the time, the brooch was on loan, as it originally belonged to Queen Ingrid.
In 1935, Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden (later King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden) gave his only daughter, Princess Ingrid, a daisy-shaped brooch as a wedding gift on the occasion of her marriage to King Frederik IX of Denmark. The diamonds in the brooch came from his late wife, Crown Princess Margaret (Known in Sweden as Margareta). The design reflected her nickname, "Daisy," which is also the national flower of Denmark.

DeleteShe looks lovely. Shades of purple are always my favorites anyway but it really suits her. I really like her eyeglass frames (which might sound a little strange) because they disappear on her face and you can really see her eyes. And yes, she does seem much more relaxed now that she's in retirement. As if a weight has been lifted from her shoulders. Well deserved.
