On April 22, 2025, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain hosted a luncheon at the Royal Palace of Madrid in honor of 85-year-old Santander-born writer Álvaro Pombo García de los Ríos, recipient of the 2024 Miguel de Cervantes Prize, ahead of the official award ceremony. Álvaro Pombo García de los Ríos is a Spanish poet, novelist, and activist.
The event, which brought together officials, academics, publishers, and notable cultural figures, served as a prelude to the official ceremony taking place this Wednesday at the Auditorium of the University of Alcalá. Pombo was awarded the Miguel de Cervantes Prize for his “extraordinary creative personality, his unique lyricism, and his original narration.”
