On April 9, 2025, Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Laura Mattarella, hosted a state banquet for King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the Quirinale Palace in Rome, Italy. The banquet coincided with the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary, which they marked on the same day during their state visit to Italy. King Charles III and Queen Camilla are undertaking a state visit to the Republic of Italy.
Among the guests were celebrity chef Giorgio Locatelli and tenor Andrea Bocelli, along with a number of Italian government ministers and designers Sir Paul Smith and Brunello Cuccinelli. Queen Camilla wore a lace gown by Fiona Clare and accessorized with a special necklace featuring turquoise and diamonds that once belonged to her late mother, Rosalind Shand.
Both ladies look lovely in their chosen gowns. Ms. Matarella is pure simple-elegance in floor length sleeveless black, and Camilla looks radiant in her best colour, blue. I like the way her pleated skirt falls from the waist, and of course the lace fabric is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying these simpler State Dinners, without the excessive fuss and fancy (much as I like seeing that too, lol). Happy Anniversary to C&C.

Agree with everything.

Anch'io sono d'accordo. Aggiungo che scegliere di non indossare una tiara è stato un bel gesto di rispetto verso la nostra Repubblica e Laura Mattarella è il nostro valore aggiunto.
DeleteLove this turquoise gown, it’s a great colour and great style for Queen Camilla. She also.looked good in her white outfit earlier in the day. Signorina Matarella also looks good as she has done throughout this visit. Her father must be very proud of her.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you ,
Delete@ Annie M.
As I always say, Laura Mattarella is the type of daughter any father would be proud of.
Once again, the president's daughter looks stunning in her simple black gown and tasteful jewelry. While the necklace Camilla is wearing was probably stylish in her mother's time, today it looks rather gaudy (I'll probably be crucified for saying it). It looks like overkill. Why not rework the necklace saving some of the beautiful stones and redesign into a simple more modern piece.
ReplyDeleteNo you won't be crucified for your comment about the necklace, at least not by me. I think it is just too much with the lace neckline, it looks too busy. The necklace would look better with a simpler, slightly deeper neckline imo.
DeleteI think the necklace suits Camilla and her outfit very well. I also think that if I’d received a jewel from my Mom I’d want to keep it as is, not rearrange it. But I like it that we like different things as it makes the discussion much more fun than if we all agree!
DeleteLooking fine and glamourous ( although I think Camilla’s dress might work even better for her with a waist at waist height, not the drop waist … that said in ststic pictures it doesn’t work so well for me but in movement it’s lovely, and she was of course a live moving human and not a static model!). Thinking about their ages, what an effort to go through the getting ready, photos, heading out for a late night, etc when they’d probably prefer to have a quiet night and sleep early.
ReplyDeleteI noticed the placement of the waist as well and thought the same. Beautiful dress.
Delete😂 No idea how old you are, Anon 6 37 but in my late 60s, I love dressing up I
Deletefor a formal event, glad rags, heels and make up on. A quiet night in is not my idea of fun. My thirty something children are far more reluctant to dress up and go out!
I wish I could see in detail this lady in grass green - very interesting colour!
ReplyDeleteI listened to and appreciated so much both speeches delivered from King Charles at the Italian Parliament and from President Mattarella at the State Banquet.
ReplyDeleteKing Charles has an amazing sense of humour too!
On a fashion note, Laura Mattarella is inborn grace, elegance and measured charm.
She is also so poised.
Exquisite manners from her as always.
The King and the President are immaculately groomed and attired.
I feel King Charles is in his element in Italy.
It is so obvious that he Is fascinated by Italian culture, history and traditions.
And yes, he is right.
Italy and the United Kingdom have developed strong ties throughout the centuries
Wonderful!
I enjoyed the Italian bits in his speech at the Parliament.
Queen Camilla's gown is perfection .
All blue shades suits her but this one is particularly flattering on her.
Well done to all of them.

DeleteWell said. I totally agree.

Camilla est élégante dans cette robe turquoise ; comme toujours, la fille du président Mattarella a beaucoup d'allure !
ReplyDeleteI adore QC dress, but her necklace blew me away. Apart from QM of Denmark we rarely see turquoise gemstone, and I have to say QC are exquisite! 👌
ReplyDeleteLowri.
The jewelry is dated only because it was made to be worn with a particular style of dress. So when used with a more modern design it can look to much. Also in passed decades you worn your wealth to shows your position in society.
DeleteThe necklace (a family heirloom of Her Majesty, Queen Camilla, I understand) is divine. Again, we have to make do with a toned-down dinner, no tiaras, which might become more and more the norm in future, in particular with countries that are republics. All ladies (and the gentlemen as well, of course) do look their best, very elegant, and while I understand the slightly understated look of Ms. Materella, I think it a bit too ... boring? Simple? Dare I say? Hmh...
ReplyDeleteDear @ DSC,
Deleteas an Italian- born woman, I wouldn't define Laura Mattarella's dress as either boring or simple.
It's very much Italian style, haute couture, measured elegance , top allure, utmost perfection.
It's a timeless classic column black evening gown , just what is needed for the classy lady Laura is.
Of course, tastes and preferences may vary but I am absolutely sure that any Italian woman would feel blessed wearing a gown like this.
I do not see this State Banquet as a toned - down dinner.
Yes, no tiaras but the pump was every inch all around.
Selected guests, dignitaries, ministers, a truly Gotha gathered at the Quirinal Palace.
Great class all over and an overpouring of sophisticated atmospheres.
Just like a dream, though the Banquet was not held inside a Royal Palace.

Delete女王陛下とファーストレディーは共に髪型がとても華やかです。
ReplyDelete髪の美しさは、ドレス以上の価値があると思います。
The color of Queen Camilla looks very good for her. The dress fits well except at the shoulders. Why does her dress maker always uses these thick shoulder pads in all her coats, coat dresses, dresses, gala dresses, gowns, etc... ? Because of that the sleeves are always cut too wide and must be sewed with little pleats to fit in the arm hole. This style of dress making ruins all her outfits. It makes her shoulders look broader than they really are.
ReplyDeleteI think I never saw Camilla with this turquoise necklace. With this dress it looks lovely. Turquoise gemstones is something we do not see very often any more. I remember in the 60s, it were usually older women who wore these stones in their jewelry.
Queen Elizabeth's turquoise and amethyst set from Jordan would have been nice.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to Their Majesties! Love King Charles' quip about the nice dinner party--he has a wonderful sense of humor. Queen Camilla looks gorgeous! What wonderful color for her and the gown itself is perfect for her. I love this family heirloom necklace she has chosen to wear--I think it looks lovely with this gown. I think it's so nice that she has family jewelry to add to the treasure trove of the BRF. I also think the necklace works well with the sweetheart neckline of her gown. Ms. Mattarella looks very elegant in her black gown. The neckline of her gown is interesting--almost like a tuxedo. Both the King and President look marvelous in their evening attire!

Laura Mattarella is a highly impressive woman. She is very elegant and stunning. Her gown is simple, elegant and subtle. Love the addition of her single strand pearl necklace. Her hair looks soft and natural.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen looks beautiful. I like the color of her gown, the color suits her well. I don't like the dense lace, but that is personal preference on my part. Love her choice of jewels here. Lovely presentation.
