In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived at the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Iwo Jima Air Base, located in the Ogasawara Islands, on April 7, 2025, to honor those who died in the Pacific War. This marks the first time in 31 years that a reigning Emperor and Empress have visited Iwo Jima.
At the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Iwo Jima Air Base in Ogasawara Village, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako were briefed on the Battle of Iwo Jima and the island’s background by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and Ogasawara Village Mayor Masaaki Shibuya.
Later, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako offered flowers and poured water over memorial stones as they prayed for the war dead at three sites, including the Ten'yama Memorial Monument in Ogasawara Village. The island is known as one of the fiercest battlefields of the Pacific War, where roughly 29,000 soldiers perished during intense ground combat between Japanese and American forces in 1945 (Showa 20).
Masako is lovely as always. I love both outfits, but especially the second one. She wears trouser suits (1st outfit) so well.

I agree with your comment about her trouser suits. For some reason, it seems to me that trousers fit her better than skirts. Maybe the tailoring has to be adjusted?
DeleteBelle combinaison du bleu marine avec une touche de blanc dans le revers de sa veste ainsi que de son chapeau et gants de la deuxième tenue ; bon choix des collants gris clair !
ReplyDeleteShe is such an elegant woman, in a nicely tailored outfits. I noticed her feet seem to be swollen.
ReplyDeleteThe pantsuit is excellent on the Empress. It’s well cut for her figure. The second outfit, while beautifully made, is less successful for me perhaps because the skirt is too long? It cuts her legs at an awkward spot. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteYes that seems to be noticeable with a straight skirt, verses the same length on a fuller skirt.
ReplyDeleteAlways elegant.

The Empress looks stunning in that trouser suit . The length of the skirt in the other ensemble detracts from this outfit.
