On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan attended the 2025 Japan Prize Ceremony, held at the New National Theatre in Shibuya. The Japan Prize was established in 1982 through private donations, inspired by the Japanese government’s vision to promote the advancement of science and technology worldwide.
The Japan Prize is awarded to scientists and engineers from around the world who have made significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology, which in turn are recognized as having contributed notably to the peace and prosperity of humanity.
This year’s award categories were “Materials, Production” and “Biological Production, Ecology/Environment.” Dr. Russell Dean Dupuis was awarded in the “Materials, Production” category, while Dr. Carlos M. Duarte was recognized in the “Biological Production, Ecology/Environment” category.
