On March 25, 2025, Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako hosted a state banquet at the Imperial Palace in honor of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Rosângela "Janja" da Silva. Princess Aiko and Princess Kako also attended the state banquet. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan had not hosted a state guest for six years, making this the first state banquet since May 2019.

Approximately 100 guests, including Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, the heads of Japan’s three branches of government, and ministers from both countries, were invited to the state banquet. This year marks the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brazil, designated as the Japan-Brazil Friendship and Exchange Year.

No tiaras for state banquets? That's new for Japan, isn't it?

Also, how happy does the Empress look! She must really like these guests - she's had such a big smile on her face through and through.

casual dress code was suggested by the Brazilian to replace tuxedos, suits, and gowns

The first lady has a very nice fitting pretty dress. The empress in white suits her well. Princess Aiko, I feel perhaps a little blush on her cheeks and a different colour would better suit her. The fabric of her dress is quite exquisite.

  3. Les deux cousines sont élégantes, chacune dans son style et couleur ; j'adore les perles de la princesse Aiko surtout au niveau de son collier original !
