Last week, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited New York to attend the 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69). The Duchess attended the session—the world’s largest gathering on gender equality—as the Global Ambassador of the Prevention of Blindness and a Patron of Plan International. She met with youth advocates from Lebanon, Ethiopia, Peru, and Jordan, who shared their experiences of living through conflict and crisis.
During the world’s largest gathering on gender equality, the Duchess delivered a keynote address at a UN Friends of Vision group event titled 'No Woman Left Behind – Closing the Gender Gap in Eye Health to Achieve the SDGs'.
The Duchess also attended a discussion with United Nations Ambassadors, UN agency staff, and members of the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), where she emphasized the importance of eye health in creating better opportunities, especially for women and girls.
Why is she just a simple duchess?
ReplyDeleteI don’t quite understand the question? “Just”???? She married into the royal family and the Queen bestowed upon her and Edward the titles they have today. Look her up on Wikipedia to learn more!
DeleteBecause she is married to a duke, she does not get an automatic princess for marrying a prince.
DeleteShe is technically, Princess Edward--like you have Princess Michael of Kent ----but because Edward was made Earl of Wessex when he married, she became Countess of Wessex. He was an Earl as opposed to a Duke like Prince Andrew or Princes William and Harry as it was always intended that he should inherit the Edinburgh Dukedom after his father's death.
DeleteHer speech is here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CxubXezVfx0&t=398s&pp=2AGOA5ACAQ%3D%3D. I find her lovely and she supports some very impressive pro- equality causes including equality in eye care, and rape as a weapon of war. To me this says she is not just doing good as a royal, but that she is brave and compassionate. I therefore couldn’t care if she turns up in public in pyjamas! - but I also like her in this navy jacket and sage blouse which seems to suit her colouring beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link. I agree with you she supports very worthy causes.
DeleteThank you.

I was reminded of Charlene's buttoned-up shirt, criticized by some ladies here and thought: well, better buttoned up than doing what the jacket allows the collar to do. A somewhat untidy arrangement, not only on the Duchess but generally, when collar meets lapel. - And: as this is a fashion blog here, I would definitely not appreciate if she turns up in pyjamas :-).
ReplyDeleteBoth outfits a well coordinated in colour. I prefer the first suit only because I like those colours. Her hair looks nice this length with the blunt cut.
ReplyDeleteNice to see her again. She looks good in both outfits. NY seems to be a magnet for Royals.

Belle association de l'ensemble bleu marine porté sur le haut vert pâle ; sa longueur de cheveux lissés apportent de la douceur à son look !
ReplyDeleteMy impression is that the Duchess wears pant ensembles so much better than dresses. Here she looks fresh and youthful instead of those awful long dresses and sometimes goofy -looking shoes hat pull her down and sadly age her. The navy is really great. The gray slacks are either wrinkled or too tight in the thighs. But overall these outfits work for her!
ReplyDeleteI like the navy suit--or trousers and blazer?--with the pale blue blouse. Also the jacket with the pink blouse OR the grey trousers with the pink blouse but NOT the brown jacket with the grey trousers. Just why?
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of collared blouse under a blazer, donot like the bare neck.
ReplyDeleteThe jackets in itself are nice.
Sophie looks fantastic; very sophisticated; she is really a natural beauty. I like the navy jacket .Earrings look good. An astute business woman with grace and poise.(Tara)
