Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg celebrates her 69th birthday today. On the occasion of her birthday, the Grand Ducal Court released new portraits.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa was born on March 22, 1956, in Havana. She married Henri, who was then the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, on February 14, 1981, at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg. They have four sons and a daughter: Prince Guillaume, Prince Félix, Prince Louis, Princess Alexandra, and Prince Sébastien. The Grand Duchess is the grandmother of six grandsons and two granddaughters.
As Grand Duchess, Maria Teresa has dedicated her life to humanitarian work, focusing on children, education, and women's rights, continuing her passion for social causes both before and after joining the royal family. She has also been an ambassador for UNESCO since 1997. The Grand Duchess is actively involved in many humanitarian and social organizations, with a particular focus on violence against women in war zones.
Wow, the photoshopping/creative editing is off the charts in these photographs! Do they really need to do that? This photos are for posterity -I think- and no one is going to look the way they really are, Rem
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that EVERY professional photo has post production (editing) don't you? Why couldn't this just be about her birthday?
DeleteThe last photo does not even look like her!
DeleteAgree…the photos do seem to be overly touched up and off looking. Maria Teresa is a beautiful woman but the excessive hiding of her natural and quite lovely aging is a shame. Nothing wrong with a few wrinkles!
DeleteAgree Rem. For a 69 year old, wrinkles and blemishes and imperfections would not only be normal but welcome. There’s photoshopping, fillers and plastic surgery, but I can’t say from these photos in what measure. That royal blue is extremely becoming on MT.
DeleteBeautiful pictures. She looks so good in all these photos.
ReplyDeleteThe Grand Duchess looks fabulous ——and not in a ‘for her age’ kind of way, just fabulous. I particularly like the first and last photos. In her late 50s/ early 60s she was frumpy and matronly but she lost weight and updated her hairstyle. I don’t always like her fashion choices and she is sometimes very heavily made up but she looks years younger than she did a decade ago which is quite a feat. She’s a total inspiration to women of the same vintage (like me!). Happy birthday, M-T
ReplyDeleteShe looks younger because she had lots of plastic surgery and these pictures have been photoshopped.
DeleteI do like her hairstyle though and afmire her sometimes bold fashion choices, but aging gracefully is not her thing.
Lisa
Lisa…totally agree! The photos are photoshopped to oblivion…and she has had plastic surgery. Nothing wrong with that and she is a lovely woman but the pictures just look unnatural in my opinion.
DeleteHow do we know she has had plastic surgery, was it made public?
DeleteShe may well have had cosmetic surgery. I’m not skilled enough to be able to tell. However, I definitely think the weight loss made the biggest improvement to her appearance, closely followed by the modernisation of her hairstyle

ReplyDeleteWow she looks great. Such a lovely couple, they always look so smitten with each other, nice to see.
ReplyDeleteThey are such a beautiful couple. Helena
ReplyDeleteGD MT looks wonderful in these photos, no matter what. Happy Birthday to her!
ReplyDeleteWith the GD Henri, true love.

-Dorothe-
ReplyDeleteBeautiful royal blue gown. Over-kill with the bronzer.
ReplyDeleteMrs Cleaver
The deep Navy blue gown looks wonderful, the Sapphire and diamond necklace looks superb, love the earrings. She looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe paler blue gown off the shoulder also looks great, her tiara looks stunning.
The peach gown also looks fabulous from what I can see. These are lovely photos, the Grand Duke, looks well groomed and well attired.
I agree with you, Ava.
DeleteEvery single ensemble looks amazing as to the colour and fit, and jewellery is jaw- dropping.
P the original. Yes, I feel with the right jewel choice it is the icing on the cake LOL! She looks terrific in every photo. Clothing and jewellery— perfect!!
DeleteHope you are well. Lovely to read your comments, and input. Hugs
She looks like a wax puppet. This is just overdone. Not the surgery, I think it was quite well done and she looks excellent since then. But this extreme photoshopping makes her look unreal. Just too much.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, her face lacks expression, it is all too flat
DeleteAnd I have a feeling not only her face is ‘edited’, but the pictures and her outfits are regal and stunning !
DeleteI must say she is a beautiful woman. Noone would believe she is celebrating her 69th birthday. I like pic 1and 3 best. A very happy 69th Birthday to GD Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.

This is probably the very first time I really feel a royal lady looks so contrived and unnatural in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI feel GD MT is trying too hard indeed to look younger and the result is not convincing in my view.
While I applaud her strenous attempts at creating a better physical image, mainly through her substantial weight loss and supposedly cosmetic surgery, I still believe that the overall effect is quite artificial.
Looking at pic 6 in particular, I guess I know why she usually resorts to heavy makeup even to her daytime engagements.
I feel she wants to minimize some more visibile signs (whatever the nature of these signs) on the outer corners of her eyes.
I don't think that she can benefit from such heavy makeup layers ,though.
On the contrary, I'm pretty sure that the more she covers those signs and the more she brings to the public attention just the areas of her face she tries to make smoother and faultless.
I feel she does the opposite of what could really help her in this case, namely a kind of soft focus makeup targeted on her needs.
I do think she has made huge headway since she was in her late fifties, as far as her clothes taste and hair style are concerned.
Of course, all this stems from my very personal perspective.
All in all , I find these pics beautiful as they show the GDucal couple so loved in.
GD Henry is always so flawlessly attired.
Other than that, I wish a very happy birthday to GD MT!!
You put it well into words, and in the end it is quite tragic, trying so hard and ( in our view!) getting the opposite from what you want.
DeleteI have waited to comment and have read all the other comments. Yes, MT has had work done--and it has been done well too. But that is a personal decision and if that is what she felt was best for her--it's fine by me. The one issue I do have is the heavy makeup--but she has always worn a heavy makeup for decades. Again, I think she just has a preference for this but when I do see photos of her looking more natural--she is so lovely. Oh well, nothing I can do about that. What I do see here is an elegant lady, beautifully attired and bejeweled. And, as always, GD Henri is impeccably attired and so debonaire. These photos are gorgeous and you can tell this couple is happy together. Happy Birthday, MT--and here's to many more!

Thank you for a sensible comment, Janet!

They haven't photoshopped her hands and they show her age
ReplyDeleteThe Grand Duchess looks amazing in these beautiful portraits! I'm always surprised by the commentary and how much nit picking occurs when one of the royals looks exceptionally beautiful - it's photoshopped, she doesn't look like herself, she should always or she should never - it's so petty. She looks great and good for her!
