On March 29, 2025, the 69th edition of the Bal de la Rose (Rose Ball) took place under the presidency of Princess Caroline of Hanover. Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene, Princess Caroline, Andrea Casiraghi, Tatiana Santo Domingo, Charlotte Casiraghi, Beatrice Borromeo Casiraghi, Princess Alexandra, and Ben Sylvester Strautmann attended the charity event, which was held at the Monte-Carlo Sporting Club in Monaco.
The Rose Ball was created by Princess Grace in 1954. Since 1964, all proceeds from the event, along with exceptional prizes such as sculptures and paintings, have been donated to the Princess Grace Foundation. The foundation's mission is to support people and children in need by developing humanitarian and philanthropic projects.

A laughing and smiling Alexandra - yes, so much better than that model-posing Alexandra a couple of days ago. It goes well with her pink dream dress. Beatrice's ethereal beauty always works, even in red. Princesses Caroline and Charlene are both perfectly elegant and please the eye. Charlotte Casiraghi - I don't know , is it her maybe too dark/broad brows or her makeup or a hairdo that is not there or all that taken together that give her a somehow hard expression? The colour black is not helpful to balance it. She looks as if someone from the household had to fill in for the real Charlotte who was late and the substitute had no time to pretty herself up.
ReplyDeletePrincess Alexandra is wearing an awful dress. Charlotte's hair is disheveled for such an event. Charlene looks beautiful but I wouldn't have worn the sash. The rest are fine but nothing extraordinary.
DeletePrincess Aexandra is looking very beautiful.
DeleteMESH
@Anon 08:51: Re sash: If you look carefully at the picture showing her whole dress, it is not at all a sash, but an integral part of the gown that looks terrific on her.
DeleteThe dress looks far better on the model than it does on Alexandra. ~~Ruthie
Delete@08:51 ...Agree about the messy hair of Princess Charlotte.
DeleteLots of pretty dresses. I love P.Charlene’s dress, great colour and fit. The dark green lace so elegant. Charlotte has a nice Chanel dress, her hair is abit unkempt. Caroline looks classy. It is Alexandra that I am struggling with. Can’t put my finger on what it is. The colour is different on some photos, but I think maybe this isn’t her colour, or is it her hair being down or is it the openness of the bodice. It fits her well and I like the big skirt but something is missing for me.
ReplyDeleteDear Alexandra
ReplyDeleteWhen your boyfriend has to help you negotiate your dress, you're wearing the wrong thing.
Kim
Ha…so true. That’s a lot of dress!
DeletePrincess Charlene has a look of quiet confidence in her face. Her outfit is unusual and stunning - so chic. Princess Caroline's hair looks exceptionally lovely at this event,
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
Delete100% Agreed.
DeleteMary
Oh dear — Alexandra’s dress, with its extreme dropped waist ringed with big flowers above a comically bouffant skirt, just fights with her every inch of the way to failure. It is wearing *her*. (And this could have been such a beautiful gown; if you look only at the upper portion, it *is* a beautiful gown.). Beatrice looks ravishing (as she so often does). I love everything about her look, and Charlene’s too. I am gobsmacked by Charlene’s re-emergence after the terrible time that we all remember. Radiant, confident, relaxed, and more beautiful than ever. She just looks stunning here.
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
DeleteTotally agree! Finally we are seeing our beloved Charlene in all her beauty and most important of all so confident and relaxed!!!!
DeleteBeatrice, Charlotte and Caroline are my favourite looks here (I could do without that extra middle tier on Charlotte's gown but it looks better on the model than on her). Can't say I like the green part of Charlene's dress...if it's detachable, it would have looked better worn somehow differently, instead of draped over one shoulder and then around the waist on the other side. The black strapless gown by itself is beautiful on her though.
ReplyDelete- Anon 9:13
Now that the model photo has been added, I can see what the green lace overlay on Charlene's dress is all about, but It doesn't change my mind about it. I still prefer the black strapless dress without it.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Alexandra’s dress is a pretty color on her but is otherwise a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteMrs Cleaver
Agree !!
DeleteAn awful pink meringue!
ReplyDeleteCharlene: She's pretty and elegant, with flawless make-up and hair, but the dress is not my favourite.
ReplyDeleteCaroline and Charlotte: Both Chanel dresses are chic, but Charlotte's hair and make-up, no. Caroline looks classy.
Alexandra: Ordinary looking, even in a big meringue gown. Awful.
Beatrice: Looks beautiful in her Grecian-inspired red gown. Not sure about her hairstyle.
HH
I wish there were photos of Beatrice in profile. I think her hairstyle is in a Grecian style to match her dress. It must have been spectacular viewed from the side.
DeleteOh, I love this event. My easy winner by a mile is Beatrice. What a gorgeous gown. She is closely followed by Tatiana, in spite of the one sleeved dress and the Princess Charlene who looks fantastic. Princess Caroline’s dress is nice enough, Charlotte.s too dull and Princess Alexandra’s just too much. It is great to see that Princess Caroline has styled and coloured her hair and again looks an elegant classic beauty. Also good to see Princess Alexandra look her smiling natural self after those strange staged photos. Lovely 🥰
ReplyDeleteIf you’ll have to take lots of family photos, a massive pink dress is not the right choice.
ReplyDeleteI’m confused about the green lace on Charlene. Is it a drape of material sitting on top - or integrated and sewn into the dress? Does anyone know ? A beautiful piece of lace but can’t quite work it out from the photos.
ReplyDeleteThe models pictures have been added which shows the intention of the design
DeleteI agree
My opinion as well. The dresses have quite different styles, so far so good. Difficult to express any preference.
DeleteCharlene éblouissante avec un petit plus. Caroline parfaite. Béatrice classique chic. Tatiana magnifique.
Froufrou
Beatrice and Tatiana saving the ball.
ReplyDeleteCharlene- still trying to figure out what you are wearing
Caroline - off the shoulder dress! those days are behind you.
Alex- has worn a similar dress before, too big for her small size, it did not work then and now.
Charlotte - whatever!!
I agree. Alexandra's dress has a nice color but it swallows her. Helena
DeleteWhere are the husbands of Princess Charlotte and Princess Bea?
ReplyDeleteMary
Charlotte divorced her husband
DeleteNo princesses to see here. Charlotte has split from her husband Dimitri Rassam, and perhaps Pierre Casiraghi was not attending because of illness or he had some other commitments going on.
DeleteMary…does your husband, if you have one, go with you everywhere?
DeleteMy winner is Beatrice who looks all around gorgeous. I also really like Tatiana´s gown (albeit a bit shiny) and Caroline´s (from what I can see).
ReplyDeleteCharlotte´s gown isn´t bad, it´s actually quite good compared to her usual choices, but I´m really bothered by that line right across her bust. If only the embellishments had been applied upside down, placing that line at her waist and the rest of the embellishments further up.
Alexandra´s gown looks ridiculous - the extremely low waist destroys any desired feminine silhouette. What a design failure. The barbie pink colour and the 3D flowers look kitschy. I must give her though that her smile is radiant and she wears her dress with confidence which is great. Also, her necklace is beautiful.
I´m fairly indifferent regarding Charlene´s gown. It´s not bad, it´s interestingly different, but it´s also a bit reminiscent of a fancy lace dressing gown, and the look is overall a bit dark.
Anyway, I´m happy that both Charlene and Beatrice made sure to have properly lined skirts.
Hello, @ Vanessa.
DeleteI really like your comment and your expertise.
You gave plently of interesting details about all the ensembles portrayed in the pics and I appreciate your knowledge.
Although I don't agree fully with you about Alexandra's gown - which is rather funny and unexpected, actually-, I must say I like the way you kindly give suggestions to improve a lady's look.
Hope to see more of your inspirational fashion comments.
Thank you.
Agree with P’s generous comment : I really like learning from others here who teach me something about fashion, and in particular creating clothes (seams, embellishments, etc). Charlene has beautiful earrings but I’m not so keen on the rest of the clothing styles here, but I still love the learning. Thank you!
DeleteThanks a lot, @ Anonymous17:06.
DeleteYou see, I am a fashion pasionaria but I honestly couldn't explain how clothes are made or could be improved the way Vanessa did in her comment.
I just let my taste and intuition guide me in choosing my clothes.
I do not have the technical expertise Vanessa showed in her comment.
So I find it incredibily interesting to get to know more about clothes execution and enhancement.
Oh, thank you for your kind words. I don´t think I am any more of an expert than you are.
DeleteRegarding Charlotte´s gown and the embellishment - I was actually surprised to find this (to me failed) embellishment design from a renowned fashion house. It goes against intuition and the 101 of dress making. For a nice feminine silhouette, it is desirable to have a defined waist, so logically that line should be placed there. If the pattern was inverted, also, the more spaced-out bits would be further up and optically create an illusion of a bigger bust. This would be especially beneficial to ladies like Charlotte who don´t have curves. As is though, the line running right across her bust makes for a constrained look. Also, the very low neckline only leaves a very narrow bit of black above the embellishment line, further minimizing the bust optically. I don´t know why anyone would want that. That´s all I was thinking.
ReplyDeleteBeatrice is gorgeous! Also like Tatiana choice, bright colour makes her shine. Nice and sweet fairytale's dream of a dress on Alexandra.
ReplyDeletePity, we don't see Pierre this time
Caroline, Charlotte and Beatrice all look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBut for me the whole Grimaldi-Gang is a strange family. I don't think there is much happiness in this family.
Where is princess Stefanie and her kids. Why are they never there. Always the Casiraghi part!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they have other commitments or just don’t want to be there or are ill? Should the entire family always be together all the time?
DeletePrincess Caroline is president of the ball so her family shows up to support her and the cause.
DeleteOch nööö, ich hatte herrliche Roben erwartet. Stattdessen??
ReplyDeleteCharlotte C always the best!
ReplyDeleteWhere is Pierre?
ReplyDeleteThey all look beautiful and for those criticizing the dresses, those ladies chose their dresses not you. So much judgement so much jealousy!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fashion blog where everyone can express their views on the choices ladies make, be it their own or a gown given to them to wear. This is what makes this blog fun to see different points of view.
DeletePassing on our opinions about outfits worn for events that the blog owner chose to feature here is part of this blog ever since it started. It has nothing at all to do with jealousy or being overly judgemental. It is (mostly) done in good sports, no harm done when putting out critique as long as it doesn't drift into horrifically insulting territory. Basically, this is what this blog is about. Sharing opinions on various outfits.
DeleteI don't understand one thing: the Monaco princely family are Catholics and they publicly declare it, many Monaco state events are connected with the church. Why then do they organize a ball in the middle of the period of church fast?
ReplyDeleteI am also Catholic and in our country there are even no church weddings in the church and also no balls during the church fast. Of course, this is just a recommendation, not an order, everyone has the right to do what they want, we have freedom, but if people take their faith seriously, not just as an external decoration, they should also behave according to it.
As for fashion, Beatrice won for me. Alexandra's pink dress is a bit too... big... pink - no thanks.
Charlotte - as usual Chanell and as usual hair in a messy fashion.
Stephanie
Albert and the women. Not much of a catholic, is he.
DeleteIt is clearly stated that this Ball is a charity event.
DeleteAccording to Christian religious criteria and the Catholic Lent period in particular, all official state visits with subsequent opulent state banquets and bling display should be cancelled.
Furthermore, religious criteria shouldn't apply only to mundane occasions as such but to everyone's personal life conduct.
Judging and stigmatizing women out of theiir body shape/ physical appearance and by addressing them rudely should be avoided, for example, as well as ageism (just to mention two of the most common and hideous behaviours easily found on this blog).
Practising empathy is also recommended.
Before calling out a member of a royal family as guilty of something, one should be able to scrutinize how she treats others- whether Royals or not- on this virtual space and most likely in real life.
To P. Original 18:12
DeleteYou are completely unnecessary and unfounded in accusing me of stigmatizing women, ageism, lack of empathy, etc.
I have expressed my opinion. And I will continue to express my opinion openly on fashion, hairstyles, traditions, culture. You can agree with me or not. And that is about all you can do. (PS: A state banquet is something different from a ball, after all.)
Stephanie
Stephanie, I think it can be explained simply by remembering that cultures including religious cultures vary from place to place. It’s interesting to find out about, and I don’t think we can judge the others based on our cultures when theirs are different. Which country are you from?
DeleteThe 3 pillars of lent are prayer, fasting, almsgiving. It is not about omitting works of charity to do good when the occasion presents. It is not about giving up something for 40 days then going back to regular life. It is about a personal journey of changing oneself for better.
DeleteOfficially they are catholic. How they each fill in their belief is personal, they don't have to tell the public how they do it.
DeleteIf you read the captions it is the "69th ball the la Rose". I can't remember if it took place each year in the same period.
In my town there have always been 2 churches. Now there is only one.
Because people are not going to church anymore on Sunday they closed the smallest church but still use it for all kind of reasons, funerals, holy communion ceremonies, etc. During the pandemic it was transformed into a medical centre were the people of my town could go to get their vaccination.
ReplyDeleteThe best dressed is Beatrice Borromeo. The quality of C. Dior.
ReplyDeletePrincess Charlene has ideed took a curtain and draped it over her black dress.
Princess Alexandra's dress reminds me of a pink lamp-shade 1950's style. She looked so beautiful during the photo shoot, now her hair is less beautiful, her forehead looks oily.
Princess Caroline's hair is very beautiful. The dress is not bad but in close-up it seems to be and older dress that is worn out a bit.
Charlotte Casiraghi's dress by Chanel is not bad at all this time, if only she could change the way she poses a bit more : sweeter, more friendly, ... less haughty.
Tatiana Santo-Domingo : the dress by Erdem is common, in another color and fabric it could look better.
...and the SHOW must go on ... HIGH HIGH SOCIETY ...;))
ReplyDeleteWow don't know where to start. Charlene and Caroline look stunning. Beatrice and Tatianas gowns are lovely, nice strong colors. Beatrice tries to channel Pss Grace with the hairpieces, don't look bad at all on her. What did Alexandra think? Disney Pss or cake topper. Nice color but way too much dress for her. Charlotte's gown looks good on the model, not so much on her. The top part is like a tank top, no real shape. I hate to be a spoiler, but her hair looks like she misplaced the hairbrush. Maybe better next year.
ReplyDeletecss
ReplyDeleteOh my what a collection here. The one gown I really don't like is hot mess of pink gown Alexandra's wearing. It does absolutely nothing for her and is dwarfing her. The only thing that works is the color--its good shade of pink for her. Beatrice and Tatiana look very elegant and their gowns are beautiful. Charlotte is actually in a pretty good Chanel gown--the middle ruffle is problematic--but what I have an issue with is her completely overdone eyebrows as they are too much. She either needs to style them more or stop with the heavy black brow pencil. Charlene looks wonderful in this rather unusual design but I like it. The green is beautiful on her and her earrings are stunning. Caroline is beautiful! Love everything she is wearing and she has styled her whole look perfectly--she looks so elegant.
ReplyDeleteJanet
They are all so pretty in their gowns. I especially like P. Alexandra's gown, it's very Spring fantasy. It just looks like they needed to scale it down a little for her petite frame. But maybe big and bouffant was what she wanted. Anyway, looks like it was alot of fun.
ReplyDeleteThe Chanel looks cheap and the GiambattistaValli is awful, too. For me Number one is Tatiana and number 2 Carolina.
ReplyDeleteCaroline looking lovely, Charlene is just OK, never my favourite, Charlotte her usual disaster (where is new boyfriend?), Alexandra looks like those knitted things people used to put over Kleenex tissue boxes, Tatiana nice but rarely smiles for the camera, Beatrice looking like she’s 85 years old in a style that is too old-fashioned when it debuted 80 years ago (where is hubby Pierre?), in short, the “new” Monaco without much style, glamour or happiness…it’s a pity.
ReplyDeletePrinces Charlene look stunning, her eyes tell a different story
ReplyDeleteFirst, my comment is not about fashion, but about the beginning of the Rose Ball. My apologies.
ReplyDeleteThe Rose Ball was indeed started in 1954, but not by Princess Grace. Grace Kelly became princess of Monaco in April 1956 when marrying Prince Rainier. They had met in 1955, so even that later than 1954.
The Rose Ball was started by a group of most prestigious hotels in Monaco (Societe des Bains de Mer, more apologies for writing mistakes). They needed more program for the tourists in spring season. Grace became connected with the Rose Ball some years later, perhaps about the same time as with the Monaco Red Cross.
Margot
Stunning - the young woman in the pink dress.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to this beautiful family. I have always been a fan of Caroline.
ReplyDeleteIt appears we all had some pretty strong opinions on these dresses! I think they have ALL looked better except Caroline and Titiana who look lovely. All the other dresses certainly evoke love or hate and for me it's a lot of negative, nothing nice to say so I won't.
ReplyDeleteI'm late to the party, but I don't think anyone has mentioned Charlene's gorgeous emerald drop earrings, the whole reason for the green lace half of the dress.
ReplyDeleteMrs Cleaver
Somebody remarked that Andrea Casiraghi seems to be carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, whereas I noticed that Sylvester Strautmann (boyfriend Alexandra) seems to have lost a lot of weight!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the best dressed like usual is Beatrice Borromeo.
I love the Princess Charlotte look wherever. She has style and a very natural beauty!
ReplyDeleteAgree about Charlotte Casiraghi. She is an exceptional beauty.
DeletePrincese Caroline is the best, beautiful and classy! Always!
ReplyDeleteHello to all the royal families the princesses are really pretty from the King
ReplyDeleteI saw a similar dress to P.Charlene’s and the lace was draped at more of an angle across her chest to other side rather than the middle. It made all the difference in the appearance. I still think it is exquisite, love the deep green and the emeralds
ReplyDeleteBeatrice wins the best dressed title from me again. It’s a beautiful dress and she wears it so well! Not to mention the nod to Grace Kelly’s red dress from To Catch a Thief.
ReplyDeleteI quite like Tatiana’s choice too, as well as Caroline’s. On the fence about Charlene’s and Charlotte- both could do better. Alexandra is still learning how to dress for such occasions.
