At the invitation of President William Ruto, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are making a four-day state visit to Kenya. On the evening of March 18, Kenyan President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto hosted a state banquet at State House in Nairobi in honor of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. For the state banquet, Queen Máxima wore a two-piece outfit by Claes Iversen, which she had first worn for Prinsjesdag in 2016.
Queen Máxima also wore a sapphire tiara during the event. The sapphire and diamond jewel was commissioned in 1879 by King Willem III for Queen Emma. At the time of its presentation, the jewel was originally a necklace. Forty years ago, Queen Beatrix ordered a new frame, allowing the stones to be worn as a tiara. The sapphire brooch worn by Queen Máxima on her waist originates from Anna Paulowna’s estate.
Wow! Máxima looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
DeleteI love this dress. They all look fabulous
ReplyDeleteSuperb. Queen Maxima looks fabulous
ReplyDeleteHer hairdo is stunning and makes her look years younger. Stunning dress on the Queen! Fabulous!!! MR
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful dress for Maxima. I like her choice of tiara.
ReplyDeleteI must say the brooch used on her waist is very clever and elevates the look
ReplyDeleteFantastic! From top to toe! Ac
ReplyDeleteMaxima looks great! I've always liked this Iversen dress. It has weathered well through the years and Maxima wears it so well. (I'm just wondering whether the skirt should be adjusted slightly to be less flared by an inch or so, since Maxima seems to be much slimmer now than when it was first made for her - but this is a minor point.)

Queen Maxima looks gorgeous and I have always loved this Claes Iversen gown. I also love how she added the huge brooch (a stomacher used in a modern look!!!) to the belt or waist of the gown--perfect placement. Her hair is so well styled--and it's a beautiful 'do. Finally--those earrings are fabulous! I love sapphires and these are among my favorite sapphire parures. Maxima is really glowing here.

Wow wow wow. How wonderful she looks.
ReplyDeleteShe knows how to pull out all the stops when it counts. Queen Maxima looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThe evening gown looks wonderful. I love the Sapphire jewellery.
ReplyDeleteDear Maxima, it cannot be too difficult to do your hair like this every day?
ReplyDeleteIt makes the total look só much better!
By the way: like your blue blouse!
I like the hair as well. If she had that hair style everyday, it would lose its charm or interest. That is life. That is surely not what she wants, she prefers variety ... sometimes good, on other days not so good.
DeleteSo true
DeleteDear Commenter, if Max wanted it this way every day she’d do it. She has the resources. But she chooses to let her hair be free for the most part because … and we can only surmise … she likes it that way! I find it imminently reasonable that a person who owns their own hair wears it as they like it!
DeleteDress beautiful, the massive jewelry in a poor African country where people have nothing totally out of place. it has something vulgar.
ReplyDeleteI understand your point.
DeleteI have noticed this too, the very rich jewels. They well may be vulgar to the general population, and honouring to the presidential couple who are hosting them. But for sure I did wonder about the level of security required to safely guard these jewels when travelling. Personally I do find it a bit obscene to see the wealth knowing sub Saharan Africa is primarily poor, but I also think she looks completely stunning - and admit not knowing the culture well enough nor the expectations on dress code, given that the trip is business promotion ultimately.
DeleteOh poor thing. Those diamonds comes from that continent you regard as poor.
Delete@Anon 06:55 Utter nonsense. Maxima is at a state dinner, not in some rural area visiting farmers or poorer people while bedecking herself in jewels. She is at a dinner hosted by the highest politician in the land, attended by dignitaries and other VIPs who have an interest in the socio and economic interests she is there to promote and support. Those people in attendance aren't poor, I assure you. She has a duty to dress respectfully and appropriately to her status as Queen of the Netherlands, and she has, perfectly. Furthermore, her hosts expect that from her. Secondly, she didn't pull out the big guns from her jewel vault as she could have. Instead, the tiara she chose is quietly elegant without shouting "Look at me", and from a distance, you can hardly see it. And the stomacher is placed in an area where one might expect a belt buckle instead of some place meant to show off. Your comment is overreaching and sensational.

Anonymous 10:57 “poor thing?” … I don’t understand the point of your response but it appears to be personally criticising the commenter versus making an interesting comment? Please don’t be mean to others for their opinions.
Delete@Anon 10:57 I was wondering about the origin of the stones. I thought there may be a connection to their host country. Details like this are very often well thought out.
DeleteAnon 9:13 - have your opinion, add to the debate - but don’t tell another person their thoughts are “utter nonsense”. Not ok. How about “I have a different view”???
DeleteDear Anon 15:25 If I didn't think that her statement was utter nonsense, I wouldn't have said so. But I did, and so I said, while supporting my statement as to why I thought so. Mine was not a viewpoint. Please learn the difference.

Anon 9:13 why be rude? You’re taking away my love for swapping ideas here Lady! - Mary
Delete@Anon 19:38 Mary: I'm sorry if you think I was being rude. I don't think I was being rude at all. Just sticking to my point. That's all.

just Stunning ❤️👏
ReplyDeleteHelemaal mee eens, zo decadent.
ReplyDeleteQuelle splendeur.
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
DeleteLovely. The middle hair parting works to make her look younger...not that she looks old otherwise of course! Lovely colour though Maxima seems to somehow suit all the colours of the rainbow. Love the sparkling heels of Mrs Ruto's shoes. JJ
ReplyDeleteShe is stunning but it's sad how the Dutch sees Africa, as a poor nation that needs so much security to protect diamond, well let me remind that those diamonds and golds comes from that poor continent. And the colonizers like the dutch knows it too well
ReplyDeleteGolds?!
DeleteMaxima at her maximum! She looks great!
ReplyDeleteLuna
She is definitely at her maximum height! She must be walking on stilts since she is now as tall as her husband. It seems important for her to stick out in the crowd.
ReplyDeleteNo other royal family come close to the Dutch royal famiy when it comes to jewellery collection. Queen Maxima has breathed new life into some of those pieces. I believe the earrings she’s wearing tonight come from the Ruby Mellerio parure, and she swapped out the rubies for sapphires. Chef’s kiss! 👌
ReplyDeleteLowri.
I guess I’m the outlier here. I love the top and skirt but have a couple of quibbles about the rest of the look. I particularly dislike the stringy, loose strands of hair that frame Q.Max’s face. They spoil what is otherwise a gorgeous updo. I also think that the earrings are just too big in relation to the more petite tiara. Maybe she could have worn them without the drops? The brooch at her waist is an interesting use of a gigantic jewel, so full marks there.

Io invece trovo che quella bellissima spilla sulla pancia sia molto ridicola.
DeleteQueen Maxima has worn this skirt on several occasions in the past. With the blue silk blouse like yesterday, with a top in the same guipure lace like on the skirt and short little cap sleeves and a deep neckline. The jewelry coming from King Willem Alexander's ancestors has been transformed several times during the years. The necklace became a tiara. The stomacher has been worn as a necklace and as a brooch and as a stomacher again. The jewelry looks modern because the Dutch Queens apparently were not afraid to have change it several times in the past. The Orange family has other pieces of jewelry which can be worn in different ways. I like the way Queen Maxima's hair is done. The addition of the beautiful hairpiece in her neck looks very good. @ Anonymous 6:32 You realize that this hairdo is done by a professional hairdresser ? Maybe there is no time to do this every day like you suggest. She is a beautiful queen.
Marie
ReplyDeleteStunning from head to toe.
