On February 10, 2025, during a Council meeting at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, in the presence of King Carl Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria, it was announced that Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's newborn daughter would be named Princess Ines, Duchess of Västerbotten. The full name of the newborn princess is Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, and she will be known as Princess Ines. Princess Ines has been granted the Duchy of Västerbotten.
Princess Ines was born on February 7, 2025, at Danderyd Hospital. The name Ines means "the pure" or "the holy", with roots in the Greek name Agnes. Marie, named after Sofia's mother, Marie Hellqvist. Lilian, named after Princess Lilian, is a British female name derived from the English word for lily. Silvia, named after Queen Silvia, the child's paternal grandmother.
This is a beautiful name for the little princess. And: Victoria looks wonderful. She is obviously full of joy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful name - they must be very happy, a little girl after three boys. It's like in Silvia's family, she was the fourth child after her three brothers.
ReplyDeleteVictoria’s dress is absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you, the King of Sweden , you made my day!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress on beautiful Cpr V!
ReplyDeletePrincess Victoria has worn this dress in the past. It still fits her as well :

I had laugh all day at the King of Sweden!
ReplyDeleteHe's struggling with dyslexia. Also, he got a paper note with the names right before he announced them. He didn't know the names from before. Don't blame him.
Delete/Sofia
Inés in Spanish..almost only a mark..a very old name.
ReplyDeleteIndeed a Spanish name.
DeleteThey wait years to get a girl and they end up giving it a boys name!!!! Boring!!!!
ReplyDeleteA boy name? The culture here is terrible!!

Santa Inés was a boy?? In what place have you been lived?? And some people do not feel even shame being so....I no find the proper Word...
DeleteSince when is Ines a boys' name?
DeleteIt's not a boys name in Sweden.
DeleteWhat a mean comment!
DeleteCalm down…Ines is a girl’s name. It means ‘pure’ and chaste’. What makes you think it’s a boys name??
DeleteIt seems that you are greatly mistaken. Ines/Inés is a female name and originates from a variation of the name Agnes.
DeleteQueen Silvia's mother was from Cuba and there Spanish is spoken too, Inés is in Spanish.
DeleteTo be charitable, perhaps Anon 15 06 was thinking of Innes, a variation of Angus. The Gaelic is Aonghas, which then becomes anglicised as Innes
DeleteThe dress as lovely as it is.. I’ve seen it before so therefore it’s a bit old hat!!!
ReplyDeleteMy brother and his wife had three boys and then were blessed with a girl, her name? Inés! She is now 19, clever, beautiful and a very nice young woman.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely coincidence!
DeletePoor grandpa his dyslexia shuffled around the letters in her name. The new princess is gorgeous. https://images.aftonbladet-cdn.se/v2/images/9db0b447-3129-4d19-a958-a33cc1a25a0c?fit=crop&format=auto&h=844&q=50&w=712&s=fe001dca0e15c385a31c5add92c8164246a39a07
ReplyDeleteThe king really butchered the baby's name. He said "Inse Silvia Marie Lilian", whereas her name is "Ines Marie Lilian Silvia". It's known he has dyslexia. Did nobody verbally tell him her name beforehand? Did they just hand him a slip of paper to read from? At least the king has said he is very sorry. Beautiful baby! ~~Ruthie
DeleteLovely name. Victoria looks beautiful and I love her dress!
ReplyDeleteJanet
I very much like this dress on CPV, I know it is a rewear but boy it fits nice and the colour is very classy. Cute name for the new little princess.
ReplyDeleteJ'adore le style de la robe que Victoria a déjà portée ; judicieux choix que ces boucles d'oreilles piochées dans son coffret à bijoux !
ReplyDeleteLovely name. Lillian was not a British royal, but a model. She was the wife of Prince Bertil, Carl Gustav‘s uncle. Bertil and Lillian lived together for 30 years, until they married 3 years after CG became king. Both Bertil and Lillian were very much loved by the other royals. It’s a lovely tribute to a great love story and dear relative.
ReplyDeleteThere are pics of the baby here: https://royalcentral.co.uk/royal-news/an-unusual-name-for-europes-newest-royal-baby-and-shes-also-now-a-duchess-207772/
ReplyDeleteLovely name. So glad Princess Lilian was included along with the grandmothers.
ReplyDeleteQueen Maxima's sister who dyed young was also called Inés.
ReplyDeleteI love CP Victoria's grey dress and her jewelry. She looks very good lately. Unfortunately she inherited the dyslexia from her father.
Because Máxima is from Argentina , a country where Spanish is spoken also. Queen Silvia's mother was from Cuba.
DeleteQueen Silvia's mother was from Brazil.
ReplyDeleteI am a South African reading the comments.
ReplyDeleteHow mean and petty to laugh at the discomfort of others. I make it a principle in my life to champion the cause of people with learning disabilities, being a teacher by profession and having been blessed with a wonderful daughter who also had learning disabilities herself. She had overcome most of it by our love, dedication and hard work.
Today she holds three qualifications through sheer hard work and determination.
Great look for Victoria.
