Vianden was the last town in Luxembourg to be liberated from the Germans in February 1945, when the Americans completed the country’s liberation. To mark the 80th anniversary of this historic event, the municipality of Vianden organized five days of commemorations. Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, accompanied by Minister Éric Thill and Mayor François Weyrich, took part in the morning activities on Sunday.

The program began with an official tribute ceremony at the Op der Plank Liberation Memorial, followed by a visit to military camps recreating the historical setting from 80 years ago. The activities concluded at the lower basin of the Vianden dam, where organizers arranged a short excursion in a DUKW, an amphibious vehicle designed in 1941.

Fabulous and excellent hat!! and what a terrific horse blanket, that grey one with the brown harness around the waist. You mean, this is a cape? Never.

It is very cold today to remember the liberation of Vianden a lovely town in the GD of Luxembourg. GD Maria Teresa is wearing warm clothes and her ever brilliant smile. I think I never saw her with such a big hat. At least it is protecting her from the cold. On the last picture with the amphibious boat there are only men on board. I think the ladies stayed behind in a warmer place with a warm drink.

    1. Exactly my thoughts. Totally agree. The hat is fabulous, but the rest of the outfit is more suitable for hunting not for a memorial event. I can recommend to dress for the occasion.

She looks very nice in her layered clothing. I like the idea of the wrap coat on top it finishes the look and it is the correct length on her. She suits this hat. Handsome couple

I like the hat worn by the GD. She doesn’t often wear hats but she suits this one. I’m not sure that the jacket is formal enough for this event. Comparing it to the coats worn by the ladies on the left in the 3rd pic

I think she looks rather theatrical for a memorial

At itself it's not a bad outfit. But like always everything is too voluminous for her short length

I don't like the outfit of the GD Maria Teresa. To me it looks like, in the absence of a proper coat, she put on whatever was handy. GD Henri looks very good, as usual. Helena

I do like the hat, stunning.
The jacket is fabulous per se but not flatteting on the Grand Duchess, I'm afraid.
Her makeup is overkill and not appropriate for daytime in general, the more so on this particular occasion.
The Grand Duke is groomed to perfection. .

I disagree with you regarding the her hat. I think it is too big for her face. I also think the the jacket fits juust fine and her makeup is totally appropriate for daytime.

It was more a happy/friendly meeting with the people of Vianden. No "Te Deum" at the church, no formal reception at the Town hall. GD M.- Teresa wore a short black coat with a zipper on her black pants and a short cape over it to have enough warmth. She wore a beige high neck sweater underneath. The military out-door kitchen with warm food and drinks looked more like a sort of fancy fair than a formal event. The lady you see serving food and drinks at one of the stands probably belongs to a patriotic organization of Luxembourg. MTeresa is the one who is dressed appropriately the other ladies, I am afraid are not.
