On February 13, 2025, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited Royal Air Force (RAF) Wittering in Peterborough in her role as Honorary Air Commodore. RAF Wittering, located in Cambridgeshire, serves as the main operating base and headquarters for the RAF Support Force and is a major station for flying training. The Duchess was appointed Honorary Air Commodore in 2008 by the reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. She wore a green tweed jacket by Giuliva Heritage, which she first wore in May 2022.

Sophie the D of E seems to have a preference for combining brown with green/blue. Like here a short time ago: https://www.newmyroyals.com/2025/01/new-photos-released-of-duchess-of.html but there are more examples if I remember correctly. It does not make the impression of a carefully chosen ensemble. As if she just grabbed a jacket and trousers that were next to it ... or the other way round.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I thought the same thing about her wearing green and brown again. I don't know if she is wearing that combination as frequently as it seems or if it just seems like that.
DeleteBeautiful colour green for Sophie !!
ReplyDeleteThis green shade is quite lovely on Sophie.

The colour is about all that is good on her. Style, pairing not so good
DeleteThe colour is nice, but that is all.
ReplyDeleteI like the green blazer with this type of belt. And you can never go wrong with a neutral colored turtleneck. However, I would have chosen a heavier fabric for the dark slacks. This looks like a lighter weight jersey that clings when she walks. Nice hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteA very fair comment, well written Virginia. The green is gorgeous on her and I’m sure it’s a beautiful garment to wear. She looks beautiful and gentle in it. Various other options may have paired better with the green, but she chose browns, and a huge smile and an attitude of service and there’s nothing to criticise in this!
DeleteI like jacket very much and hope she purchased the matching trousers. She loves to mix and match, but it’s not always successful. This look is fine though because she’s coordinated the shoes and trousers. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteI like the green jacket but wish it didn’t have the tie belt, which I never find flattering. The trousers are okay, much better than the green ones she favoured recently. The soft updo is a nice look for her

I love the fact that Sophie does not feel the need to be super skinny… I know she is not fat but she is not tiny. That said, she needs to learn to dress for her body type. Sometimes she looks super glamorous and gorgeous and other times… like now… she looks frumpy. She needs a better stylist. The colour is fantastic on her. LRB
ReplyDeleteI can get behind your comment that she could do a better job dressing her for body type. That is the key to dressing well. Sophie tends to wear a lot of fabric and it hides her figure and I feel can be aging. In comparison, I think about Benedikte, who does such a great job dressing herself. I am uncomfortable with you discussing her body size, however. That part of your comment could have been left off. Body size and body type are two different conversations.
DeleteWell anon 2.24 why not put a name to your comment? I was very clear in my description of her body size or type whatever you want to call it. No one can say she is super slender like many royals , neither is she fat. I have no idea what your comment is about, but it is unpleasant to me. LRB …not anon.
Delete@LRB You don't take it well when someone disagrees with you. You have become feisty before. Skinny and fat (or similar descriptors) are words that do not need to be mentioned in describing a woman. That implies you are discussing their weight. As a society, we are well past those types of comments. It is a practice that needs to stop. Women should be supporting each other in positive ways. There are too many people that are negatively affected by comments about weight. I fully agreed with you about dressing her body type successfully. We all comes in different shapes and sizes. Properly dressing a woman with a larger chest or high waist, for example, is a valid subject and something we can all benefit from. There is a big difference between discussing a woman's size (weight) and the type of body they have (hourglass, pear, etc.)
DeleteThe only positive takeaways is the color of the jacket, and Sophie’s warm and engaging personality! The less said about the rest of the ensemble the better!
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Lovely green jacket today.

I love this shade of green, not so keen on the color of her pants with this jacket.
ReplyDeleteLovely green colour!
ReplyDeleteThe jacket is good (weird place to put a brooch). The sweater is also good. The color of the pants is wrong. Pants in the same color as her sweater would have been better. Normally brown and green are colors that appear in nature so !t should go for her clothes too, but no I do not know why but it doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteI normally would not like this combo grass green
ReplyDelete(though this is an amazing shade)/ brown but this time I feel the Duchess just wanted to pick up on and pay respect to some of the personell uniforms .
Since she was appointed Honorary Air Commodore , I see her ensemble as a nod to this operating base and to RAF locations in general.
Well done to Duchess Sophie, wonderful visit.
