The Fold Harrow Silk Blouse
Alexander McQueen Fluted Crepe Midi Length Skirt
JOSEPH Double Cashmere Oslo Coat
Dulong Fine Jewelry Delphis Earrings
Couleurs rose et Bordeaux délicatement associées ; ses boucles d'oreilles composées d'or et de quartz rose sont particulièrement à mon goût !
ReplyDeleteI like the blouse and the skirt, but do not really like them worn together here. I don’t know if it’s the color combination that looks off to me, or perhaps the boots in the same color as the skirt are making the bottom half of the outfit look too heavy in comparison to the blouse.

I am in agreement with you something is not clicking about this outfit.
DeleteYes, me too. I much prefer the blouse with tailored trousers. It would be interesting to know what McQueen designed to wear with this skirt. (V.M.)
DeleteAgree with you. I can’t work it out either!
DeleteI think you may have identified what seems off about the outfit. The balance may be thrown off by the boots. The skirt, blouse and coat are each great pieces but the total look misses the mark. Maybe lower chunkier heels in a lighter colour would have balanced the look.
DeleteIt is the boots.

The colours in my opinion are terrific together but the sense of “something’s not quite right” may be to do with the much heavier lower half with overly voluminous skirt plus exactly matching boots. Would be interesting to see how it could look different with stockings/ shoes instead of boots - or same material skirt but using half the material. I think the skirt with a thick cream sweater and outside would be great with this outfit and the skirt is probably lovely in motion - but standing still, inside, I think the skirt is just too “big” for fine Mary.
DeleteI agree. I think it’s the boots.
DeleteLowri.
I think the "thing" that's making it not quite right are; the asymmetrical hemline (I think the skirt is meant to show off the leg but if you're wearing boots it defeats the purpose), and the lack of a belt or some other definition at the waist. The waist of the skirt isn't a good fit imo. Get rid of the boots and put on a better fitting blouse or sweater (the same color as this one but a better fit with the waistline of the skirt).
DeleteI guess it has to do with the proportion between upper and lower part.
ReplyDeleteLes articles sont beaux, mais séparément.
ReplyDeleteIls ne vont pas ensemble.
Toutefois, j’affectionne beaucoup les couleurs choisies.
My mother had an outfit like this.
ReplyDeleteI always find Mary's blouse+skirt wonderful, but this time I don't like it, I think colors work together nicely, maybe the skirt needed to be a bit more thigh? Or a belt?

Le chemisier rose est très beau ainsi que les bottes. Les boucles d'oreilles sont superbes. La jupe est un peu spéciale avec cet ourlet particulier "en escalier" !
ReplyDeletePaloma.
Earrings too pale in color; blouse a strange shape round the waist, and an odd color of pink. Jagged hemline is also odd.
ReplyDeleteI love this blouse--it's a beautiful color and the cut is beautiful. I also love the color of the skirt and it fits Queen Mary like a glove--but I do not like the hemline because the oddly shaped area called fluted by the designer. I think the bit that is off for me is the bright pink of the blouse--a softer, paler pink would look better to me with the deep maroon or burgundy color of the skirt. Still, Queen Mary looks wonderful here and I love, love, love those Dulong drop earrings.

-Dorothe-
ReplyDeleteDorothe, I think Mary’s hair is her crowning glory and so glad she wears it as SHE wants it! I don’t agree that there’s nothing special! I think the blouse is beautiful; and I love the colour of boots and skirt, even if I think perhaps the skirt+boots is a bit too heavy with the delicate blouse.
DeleteThese two colours are beautiful, and they ought to go together really wonderfully. But the more I look at the photos, the more I feel that they are both "dead" colours. I think the skirt would go well with a sparkling white top and this blouse - well, maybe with deep black, or even shiny black pants or skirt? The blouse is, in itself, very elegant, but I cannot warm to this neckline. Just a bit more skin for a necklace could change that.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit, while pretty, is plain. She needs a necklace and a wide burgandy belt. She needs some accessories. And I don't like the cut of the skirt. Too trendy.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm in the camp of those who say, either put the coat on properly, or leave it off. No throwing it over the shoulders like a shawl. If you need a shall, wear a shall.
ReplyDeleteThe cost on the shoulders is a practicality - she arrives in a warm vehicle and needs to step out directly to the photographers, receive flowers then walk inside where she needs to shrug off the cost. It’s very difficult to put a long coat on whole seated in a vehicles and awkward to step out and have someone put the coat on for her only to have to take it off 3 minutes later. Hence the practicality on a cold day of sitting it on the shoulders.
DeleteI fully agree with Anon03:02.
DeleteI love this outfit and the boots are to die for.
ReplyDeleteSensational colours too.
I get the impression that this overall look would be at its best if seen in movement,
i. e.the skirt movement while Queen Mary was walking.
Standing motionless could bring to wrong conclusions imo.
