On February 28, 2025, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted an Arts and Culture Ball at Christiansborg Palace. The invited guests were representatives from the world of arts and culture. Queen Margrethe also attended the event. For the Arts and Culture Ball, guests were invited to dinner and entertainment in the Great Hall.
The King and Queen continue a tradition that began in 1976 when Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik hosted an evening party for guests representing art and culture for the first time. At that time, the gathering was held under the title Arts et Lettres (Arts and Letters).
Gatherings where invited guests were engaged in arts and culture date back to the time of King Christian VIII (1786–1848), who, driven by his great interest in the arts, culture, and science, extended invitations to gatherings at the palace. For the Arts and Culture Ball, Queen Mary wore the Georgia sequined gown by Jenny Packham.
Beautiful gown, worn with elegance and styled to perfection with a fantastic hairstyle, tiara, make-up and jewellery. King Frederik also looks dashing. I enjoyed seeing the different styles of the guests.

I knew immediately that this is a rewear, I knew I have seen and loved it before (https://www.newmyroyals.com/2022/02/crown-princess-mary-gave-interview-to.html) Typical Jenny Packham, with flowing sequines. Also perfect fit. And beautiful tiara hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary's dress is very elegant but too pale imo. She's outshone by many of the other attendees tonight, I would say. The blue dress in the last pic worn with the long gloves is just divine but the patterned dress in pic 4 and the dresses in nos 7, 8 and 9 are all gorgeous as well
ReplyDelete@Annie: You are right, the women on the photos look fabulous. But I am not sure it is fair to compare what art-und-literature celebrities wear with what the Queen of the country chooses to wear at an occasion where she represents Denmark when honouring these people, who represent only themselves and their work. Well done if some other woman bares her back and shoulder or wears a super long train - Mary's job is to show dignity/gravitas, which she does excellently in this dress, I think.
DeleteAnon 23:33. Perfect comment. Spot on!
DeleteThe moment I saw this dress I knew it was a Jenny Packham design - and Mary wears it beautifully. It is very fitted but is meant to be worn that way, and Mary has the perfect figure for it.
ReplyDeleteShe also has the perfect overall look - enough for her status as Queen, but not excessive to overshadow her colourful artistic guests who have their own fancy and exotic fashion creations. It's their evening to celebrate after all, so go for it! What a fun evening it must have been, and Mary and Frederik seem to be enjoying it from their many broad smiles and laughter seen on video clips.

I agree completely.
DeleteIt's all about that : Mary has the perfect figure for this gown and she also has the perfect overall look.
Queen Mary, looks incredible. The gown is gorgeous, love the soft color of the gown. The style and embellishments are beautiful, this gown is a work of art. Her hair/makeup and jewels are perfect. The pale blue off the shoulder gown, looks sensational. The matching long gloves, perfection. The ladies, in the black and yellow gowns, look equally amazingly lovely. The b/white off the shoulder gown, wearing the single strand of pearls, she looks divine.
ReplyDeleteI don´t like this look, for a number of reasons: the dress is too tight on Mary; the material is rather shiny which unfortunately highlights the too tight fit; the colour is too pale for Mary and the shoulder pads are way too prominent.
ReplyDeleteOn the positive side, the embellishment is beautiful, the waist is placed well and the tiara is the perfect match.
Of the dresses shown here, I like the yellow one best, although it is probably better suited for spring or summer.
The yellow is tarty/showy. I think it's the worst one. Interesting how differently we see things ๐
Delete23:44 I like your comment because you’ve explained why you don’t love the look for us to understand. When I compare this highly shiny set of photos back with the dress’ first wear https://www.newmyroyals.com/2022/02/crown-princess-mary-gave-interview-to.html … I see that the overly shiny-ness which I too don’t like is due to the camera flashlights - so check out the natural daylight/indoor lighting pics, where I think the dress looks much much better. And also a slightly finer Mary does fit the dress better, but she’s several years older now and we naturally change shape a little which does tighten this extremely formfitting frock. She is nevertheless superb and it is a very hard dress for a more mature woman to wear so full credit to her!
DeleteI agree with your comment on Queen Mary's dress.
DeleteWhoa, this is by far the best evening look we've seen on Mary in a long time. Love the sparkle and the carefully chosen jewels to go with it. They seem to have some patina, keeping them from being too jarringly gold or silver. I can even get behind the lack of an updo - it fits this playful, princess-y dress. Beautifully done!
ReplyDelete-Nika-
This whole look,is divine. It is,has me thinking back to Princess Catherine of the UK,at the Jordanian evening wedding celebrations. The look is almost identical. It’s uncanny how very much alike these two beautiful women are.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
-Dorothe-
DeleteDorothe - it is precisely the same dress as Catherine’s https://dresslikeaduchess.com/2024/01/kate-middletons-sparkly-jenny-packham-dress-is-available-now/
DeleteEveryone looks their most fabulous best. Does anyone know the significance of the the white dress with blue piping in photo 5? It is very interesting,
ReplyDeleteEach lady more elegant than the last - and age appropriate. I am intrigued by the lady in the white and navy "origami" dress. I don't mean to offend if it is a traditional Danish outfit. I am a seamstress and trying to figure out how it is constructed.

Cf Catherine wearing same in two different colours here https://dresslikeaduchess.com/2024/01/kate-middletons-sparkly-jenny-packham-dress-is-available-now/
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the link. Personally I think Mary wears it better than Catherine. The dress is not too tight for her IMO.
DeleteMarys dress nice, but to tight! Many other lovely dresses!
ReplyDeleteWay too much Las Vegas for my taste, but many of the other attending ladies look gorgeous. Leo
ReplyDeleteMary is the best dressed royal in the world!
ReplyDeleteOnly few can wear this kind of dress without looking tacky. And count on Queen Mary to always get it right. From hairstyle to choice of jewellery. And husband sure is a dashing man. Lovely couple
ReplyDeleteMARIE
I agree 100%! Thank you for writing what I would have posted! Janet
DeleteMary looks sensational! And the other ladies aren't bad either.
Paloma.

DeleteAnd you are too rude. This sort of comment had no place in this blog.
DeleteWhat exactly do you mean?
DeleteThe model is very elegant, but for me everything is much too shiny, material, the embroidered stones on top ( hope not jewelr)and the dress is really too tight
ReplyDeleteQuel couple particuliรจrement รฉlรฉgant - Mary est vรชtue d'une robe qui รฉpouse ร merveille sa silhouette ; diadรจme et boucles d'oreilles dans le mรชme style ; j'adore !
ReplyDeleteThis was a delightful array of gowns worn by royals and non royals alike. Both queens looked regal and the guests provided colourful nice looking dresses each one differ. Even the king looked nice. Wonderful photos. Like others I am intrigued by the orgami dress
ReplyDeleteWow what a Fashion statement. Great gown and jewelry, for Q Mary. I also like the Necklace and earring from Q Margrethe. Some of the guests' gowns are nice some I have no words for it.

Last picture of Mary and Fredrik dancing and laughing are the best, Mary looks stunning ♥️
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say?
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary is sheer and shimmering perfection all over, immaculate and superb.
She is the new ' Dancing Queen', wow, I see she enjoys dancing , just like me!
Brava!๐
I'm absolutely impressed by the other ladies' gowns, wooowww!!!
The sky blue giwn with the long train is to die for.
The spectacular parure on Queen Margrethe leaves me speechless.
All the gentlemen and the King are groomed to perfection as well.
Cosa vuol dire “perfezione immacolata”..? Che esagerazione.

DeleteI still wish you'd keep an English dictionary at hand but It seems that's some kind of ' Mission impossible' for you.
Do I really have to explain to you, a supposed adult with some schooling, that the subject of my sentence is :
" (Queen Mary is) immaculate and superb.
There is also a comma between the two parts of my sentence.
Immaculate meaning that I can't find any fault in her outfit.
As you can see, neither English speaking bloggers nor non- native ones asked for explanations like you did.
Guess why?
Cause it's so clear!!
Then, that's my 'opinion' , have you already forgotten how much 'opinions' matter to you?๐
If I were you, I'd try hard to understand other bloggers' comments before rushing to reply, which I've suggested a number of times so far.
Bye.
The lady in pic 8 is smashing.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like a Greek goddess.
I agree!
DeleteMary is the dancing queen!
ReplyDeleteSublime. Flawless. Dazzling. One of her best looks.
