The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye (GNAT), Numan Kurtulmuş, is making a four-day official visit to Japan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkiye and Japan. On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan received Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and his wife, Sevgi Kurtulmuş, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
On February 17, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko met with Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and Sevgi Kurtulmuş at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo.
The tailoring is impeccable, but this is not one of my favourite looks on Masako.
ReplyDeleteThe jacket (or top part) looks OK, but the shapeless skirt lets the outfit down. The colour is not one of the best for her either. Just my opinion.

I disagree. Tailoring is NOT perfect, because Japanese tailors cannot sew an elegant skirt. The skirts of Japanese royal ladies resemble a sack.

@Stephanie Anon 17:08 You're totally missing my point, or more likely don't know what I'm talking about. Tailoring is the art of sewing. Even if Japanese tailors sew a skirt that looks like a potato sack, it will be a perfectly sewn potato sack. That's tailoring. We've seen the evidence countless times on these pages. Your talk about 'elegance' is about style, not tailoring. Learn the difference.

皇后陛下のスカートは、この部屋の低めの椅子に腰かけたときに膝が見えないように余裕を持たせてデザインされているのではないでしょうか。また、生地に伸縮性がない為かもしれませんね。

DeleteI don't see a difference in tailor´s art between the sewing of the Empress's costumes and the sewing of Mrs. Kurtulmuş's clothes from Turkey. I am convinced that the clothes of other personalities (royal ladies, politicians) are also perfectly sewn. Or do you think that the costumes of, for example, Queen Mary of Denmark are less well sewn than the clothes of Japanese ladies?
I think that these are certain prejudices (positive or negative) for example: oh, it's French food, it must be delicious... oh, it's Japanese clothing - it must be perfect sewing / tailoring. I don't recognize prejudices.
The result is decisive: the skirts of Japanese ladies are impossibly old-fashioned, as if they wanted to suppress the natural charm of Japanese ladies. I don't take into account Japanese conservatism, the Arab Muslim world is even more conservative and yet their ladies wear nicely cut skirts. One Japan royal Princess Hisako successfully avoids these terrible skirts.

I agree perhaps if the scarf was more colourful it would brighten the outfit.
ReplyDeleteI think that both outfits (Empress Masako and Crown Princess Kiko) are rather shapeless this time. While I'm sure the suits are made of exquisite fabrics (it might be even some sort of silk on the Empress), and I also like the chiffon bow on Her Imperial Majesty, the shapelessness drags down the complete looks of the Imperial ladies.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the skirt. I like her blouse
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful color. HM looks lovely in this flattering shade. I can’t quite make out if it’s a peplum jacket, either way HM wears it well. Her smile and grace elevates everything she wears.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Yes, I was struck by the unusual color, which I think was an interesting and attractive choice. It is sort of a a blend of coral and dusty rose shades, warm and vibrant.
DeleteVery nice look for the ladies.

皇后陛下のお召し物はお客様と釣り合いがとれていて、尚且つ日本的なこの部屋の雰囲気に良く馴染んでいます。この服のデザインと色には着物を思わせる落ち着きと上品さを感じます。
ReplyDeleteRight away, I was struck by the unusual and beautiful color of the Empress’s suit (and I love that the shoes match). The top is lovely on Masako; the skirt misses the mark unfortunately — is an unflattering length, to start with — but could easily be adjusted to fit better. — Jane
ReplyDelete憶測ですけれど、皇后陛下がお迎えするお客様の国の宗教によっては、肌の露出や体の線を見せることを控えなければいけない場合もあるのではないでしょうか。その点でこの服は無難なデザインだと思います。
