Queen Mary of Denmark is celebrating her 53rd birthday today. The Danish Royal Court has released a new portrait of the Queen to mark the occasion. Mary Elizabeth, Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark and Countess of Monpezat, was born on February 5, 1972, in Hobart, Tasmania. She married King Frederik (then Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark) on May 14, 2004, in a royal wedding ceremony. The royal couple has four children: Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine.

This is a lovely photo of Q.Mary. I love the cream top - it's soft and seamless, yet still has structure - I like the lace skirt adding to the soft theme, and I like the two colours together. Mary looks happy and serene. Happy 53rd birthday!

Beautiful soft top. I was quite surprised when I looked it up and found that the fabric is polyester. Maybe photoshop helps it look like silk.
ReplyDeleteIt’s probably very expensive polyester.!
DeleteMary looks good in white.
DeleteThe photo is nicely done, but, frankly, I think she would look much better with about 8 inches of less hair that is slightly turning gray. It is kinder to one's features - and who is fooled when a middle-aged person tries to look like a teen-ager again? She IS good-looking but starting to look desperate.
ReplyDeleteWow. Throw that shade.
DeleteTotal eclipse. LOL.
DeleteI also have quite a long list of royal ladies who I would prefer to see with a shorter haircut, but to call someone desperate and wanting to look like a teenager because you have a different taste? I am much older than Mary but would wear my (totally uncoloured) hair long if I had the volume that Mary has evidently has.
DeleteAgreed. It’s aging to have long droopy hair when you’re middle aged. Drags everything down.
DeleteReply to 16:46. I am very upset by your nasty comment! Queen Mary is a lovely lady and she does not look desperate, she is only 53 years old, she is not trying to look like a teenager. If she likes the length of her hair it is her business not yours. I am a 78 years old woman, fit and proud to look young.

Don’t agree. She looks gorgeous with long hair. Nothing to do with age. Just very feminime.
DeleteCertainly don’t think desperate is the word I’d use but Queen Mary looked great when she chopped her hair to shoulder length a year or two ago. Ditto Queen Letizia and the Princess of Wales. She’s fortunate that she looks fabulous anyway!
DeleteAnnieM
Uhm, what did you look like at 53?
DeleteWould you have used the same definition 'desperate' for yourself?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there’s no need to be so harsh. It's her choice how she wears her hair, and if she feels good about it, that's what matters. It’s always easy to criticise from the sidelines, but remember, kindness goes a lot further than judgment. Can we see a picture of your hair? 😊
DeletePlease look at photos of Queen Mathilde of Belgium who is one year younger than Queen Mary and is very attractive with shorter hair. And she never seems to be trying hard to look as young as her daughters, but is accepting of her age. I agree, QM does a very good job for Denmark and most of the time dresses beautifully. But since she became queen she seems to be changing her style a lot.
DeleteI am sorry to say but I do not like this picture. I think Mary's face looks like a mask. There's no liveliness in it. Her blouse and skirt are lovely.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteIt's possible that the expression or lighting just doesn't resonate with you?
DeleteJ'aime la forme de ce chemisier dont la couleur s'associe bien avec le rose pâle de sa jupe en dentelle - Bon et heureux anniversaire à elle !
ReplyDeleteMary’s outfit is pretty and feminine. I am sorry to say that my first impression of her face was that it was tense. Her expression looks forced. I got an anxious feeling looking at her. I also agree with the poster above who suggested shorter hair, perhaps to her shoulders or chin. That would counteract her rather long face. Wish her well. I do think she does a good job as Queen and Denmark is lucky to have her.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture - beautiful lady!
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I don’t get the negative comments. Tense, anxious …😄😄
DeleteNot really a good picture, don’t know why: wrong top?
ReplyDeleteWrong skirt? Tense expression?
Mary looks good I like the blouse and skirt.People in Australia love her I believe she will always come back here with her family. It surprises me that they have not bought a house in Sydney.I must admit my favourite Royal is Queen Margretha;she is a girl at heart;I love her fashion styles.(Tara)
ReplyDeleteThe blouse and skirt are gorgeous. Beautiful photo of Mary.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of beautiful Queen Mary! Love her simple, feminine outfit--the skirt is gorgeous--hope to see her wear again soon. Wishing her the happiest of birthdays!!!

Lovely photo. I must say a great looking 53-year-old lady. Happy Birthday Queen Mary of Denmark.

As always, M has to much make-up!
ReplyDeleteThat’s total nonsense.
DeleteOf course she is not looking like when she is photographed in motion, arriving somewhere or talking with or smiling at people or being in the middle of her loved ones. This is something like a semi-official picture on or for her 53rd birthday, that's all - nobody is looking "natural" in a photo like this. Not even Queen Elizabeth did. 'That her beautiful thick long hair is "dragging" her face down is simply not true. True is, that straight hair can do that at *any* age (look at Infanta Sofia) , but voliminous hair arranged in soft waves does not. I am about the same age like the commenting lady above (she wrote: 78 years) and I find this amount of ageism in the comments, be it about hair or outfits, really very sad. Maybe not enough vocabulary, so "it ages her" is a comfortable substitute for everything negative.
ReplyDeleteAnon 09:43 Good points. Well said.

ReplyDeleteWhat a nasty comment!
I guess you are nasty too!
Paloma.
ReplyDeleteI like the soft colours but queen Mary‘s eye makeup is too heavy, which makes her face look like a mask. Her hair looks uninteresting and unflattering. I am no hairdresser and have no helpful suggestions to make, but I see what I see and this semi-official portrait (I mean without Crown Jewels) does not touch my heart.

Wow!!! There sure a lot of people out there that have no life of their own and come here to show the ugliness of their souls. Imagine beeing such a said person that you think you bring something contructive to the table by being nasty
ReplyDeleteI agree with previous comments about hair length. I look to Catherine and Letizia and Mary and think how healthy and glossy their hair looked when it was shoulder length. Maybe it’s the new trend to have long hair.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Inappropriate makeup - her eye makeup is way too heavy.
ReplyDeleteAre you a member of some kind of sect that hate beautiful women wearing make up ? I surely sounds that way. Het make up is just fine.
DeleteI am the same age as Mary and I also have long hair but I put it up. People say I look much younger than my age. I don’t think long hair is only for younger women.
ReplyDeleteI like the clothes.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Queen Mary!
