Picture 5 shows the outfit best. It is a perfect fit, length and colour on the princess. I like how she wore her string of pearls. I also like the colour coordination on the princes’ tie.

From my point of view, the princess's attire is very, if not too, simple for the occasion, compared to some of her guests.

Yes, it's appropriate to show simplicity, because it's also a form of elegance.
But it's also important not to be so simple as to become banal.

As far as I'm concerned, I have high expectations of the royals' style of dress.
They alone represent a country. What's more, they have colossal sums of money at their disposal to buy the very best clothes from top designers.

I'm often a little disappointed to see how little effort some royals seem to put into their clothes. Some are content with the bare minimum.

Yes to simplicity. Yes also to sophistication. To originality. To haute couture. To innovation in collars, sleeves, designs, etc.

In short, I have high expectations of the royals.
And, in all honesty, there aren't many who meet those expectations.

    -Astrid.

Every Country with a monarchy us different. Not every monarch is a traditionalist like Queen Elizabeth or flashy like Maxina.

Perhaps the guests are overdressed for the occasion.

You make very valid and pertinent points, Astrid. Well said! There is indeed a fine line between style, elegance, simplicity and banality. Simplicity loses it's virtues when it looks just ordinary.

But Astrid, Lichtenstein is not a country, just a tiny principality. This area of the world is very understated, and we don’t show off about money. Simple elegance is very normal, especially mid winter and we wouldn’t want more. We can’t judge all people by one standard because the nuances of culture make us different and that makes the world much more interesting. Less is very much more here in the mountains!

Frankly the whole dress code seems confused… some of the visiting ladies are really dressed up, others much less so! Maybe it was ‘wear what you want’ day! LRB

This could very well be a gorgeous silk georgette fabric that oozes elegance IRL but dose not come off well in photos.

Well said lady of the manor, my thoughts as well. What I also like about the outfit is that it does not emphasize her thinness. This lady has elegant class, not a show off.

The lady in the third picture with the white ‘lampshades’ for her middle and sleeves…interesting outfit!

It is interesting to me to see the castle interior in the background of these pictures. The rooms look smaller, darker, and less ornate than I would have guessed. The tapestries on the wall look interesting.

The castle is medieval with small rooms. As long as the Habsburg Empire existed the princes of Liechtenstein lived in Vienna, Austria (where the emperor also lived) in a magnificent palace (Baroque style if I remember correctly). They still own the palace which now is a museum containing the family's art collection. When the Habsburg Empire collapsed after WWI, the Liechtenstein family moved to the old castle in the L. principality (the present place). This is approximately what happened. I do not remember it better.

      @Margot
The old castle in Liechtenstein has been build on a high rock in the capital of Vaduz.

About to stop attending this blog, where are photos of The Princess Royal, Anne? First Rachel and Henry, then this group? She racks up more than 300 engagements a year and in her 70's.

    2. Pic the blue velvet dress looks quite good, but the hairstyle is terrible. Maybe a pic seen from the front might give the lady a better hair look. Who knows ...

Paloma.

The two ladies could be there to take their coats for the cloakroom.

  9. One of my favourite royal families.
I think Princess Sophie has well chosen her outfit for the occasion.
    Simple and sober.
She has not overdressed herself in front of the invited guests.
    To me, that’s class.
They have a summer wedding in the family this year.
Their daughter, Princess Marie Caroline, is marrying a handsome young man from Venezuela.

    1. Forgot to mention Princess Marie Caroline is a fashion stylist.
No doubt, she will do her own wedding dress.
Will be interesting to see what the mother of the bride will wear for the big day.
I think there’ll be a good line up of European royals attending.
Time to book your seat now 😁

  10. Le couple princier héritier est toujours aussi charmant ; la robe aux lignes simples de Sophie convient très bien pour cette réception ; j'adore la couleur miel de ses cheveux !

I think Princess Sophie is dressed very simply and elegantly. The color is perfect for her and the fit is excellent. She looks lovely. Because the gentlemen are wearing business attire that leaves the ladies so real latitude in their attire--most likely something like dressy daywear. Her choice of simple but elegant pearls is perfect.
