On January 10, 2025, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Pasadena Convention Center, which is currently serving as an evacuation site for victims of the Eaton wildfire originating in nearby Altadena. The Duke and Duchess met with victims of the Los Angeles wildfires, as well as first responders who were on the frontlines combating the fires. The couple lives in Montecito, near Santa Barbara, about 148 kilometers from Los Angeles.
During their visit, the Duke and Duchess donated clothing, children’s items, and other essential supplies to the main donation center. Organizations like José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are providing meals to both first responders and fire victims.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis donated one million dollars to a fund supporting those impacted by the ongoing fires, which I think is great and helpful.
ReplyDeleteThat is great - maybe the duke and duchess don’t choose to advertise how much they and Archwell have donated? Harry and Meghan are encouraging everyone who can help to help. At this terrible time let’s support all help in different ways from whomsoever is able to offer it. LRB
DeleteYou mean: without visiting the victims and having pictures taken?!?
DeleteUnbelievable!
Cash seems to be a practical early help. Nothing first responders and cleanup crews need less than visiting celebrities and their bodyguards into disaster zones. Different when it is dignitaries directly associated with the locale, who are assessing for funding. And all of it best kept low profile with no photos.
DeleteAll help is appreciated if it's just through donation or letting people know they are seen. Listening, and asking what can we help with? What have we helped with ourselves I guess the question is.
DeleteI agree with LRB. They also opened their house to receive people who were in danger.
DeleteOh, have you see they have opened their home for loved ones in need, volunteering, serving food, caring about people, donated money, supplies, childrens clothes, food, asking how they can help now and in the future. Weird, hah? What did you say when K&W donated the astonishing amount of £3,500 to a food bank? There is something
Deletewrong with the people of this world. We, as a human race, have grown into selfish, nasty, self-centered, nasty people. What happened to helping your neighbour. Giving from your heart. I bet some of the nastiest people we see on this blog think they are Christian, too, even when they live, speak, and act against what their faith stands for. They probably think going to church on Sunday helps being a bully during the week.

Any chance for publicity please!
ReplyDeleteActually they were there earlier serving meals without any “publicity” and just in case you haven’t noticed there are photographers everywhere. Please focus on the good that everyone is trying to do to help, stop with the petty and totally unhelpful nonsense. Rem
DeleteAgree !!
DeleteHad Kate and William done something like this..We would have seen crowling in the ashes with superlativer.
DeleteExactly!
DeleteNo different from the other members of the British Royal Family, then, who always seek to portray themselves as concerned and caring
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with 11:29! Let’s think of ways of how all of us can contribute and make a difference and not use our energy to judge how other people choose to do it.
ReplyDeleteLady Helen pictures of the fire are se frightening that one can only think "there but for the grace of God ".. Please do not surrender your platform to vindictive witless trolling. The couple has a foundation that has worked with chef Andres in several countries. This destructive hazing across all platforms is cruel, unnecessary. and trivializesA1 a catastrophe that will hurt real people for a long time
ReplyDeleteCan you please behave as adults 🤦♂️🤦🤦♀️
ReplyDeleteThe disgustingly bad behavior of some people here doesn't even stop during a disaster. This is not the time for attacks. Thousands of structures have been destroyed, lives have been lost, and there is very little containment of the fires. More lives are expected to be lost, more homes and buildings will be lost, and the end is not in sight. I can only assume that those attacking ANYONE during a time like this has never experienced a natural disaster, especially on this scale. Harry and Meghan are doing what so many people are doing, well-known or not. These communities come together, offer aid, find out what is needed, and do their best to meet those needs. To single them out because some pictures were taken and published is simply hateful. These are not posed photos, they are not dressed to impress, and don't even try to say they arranged for these photos to be taken. The media is crawling all over the various evacuation centers. There is around the clock coverage on the news. Harry and Meghan served food anonymously, wearing masks. They have already donated through the Archwell Foundation and reportedly will offer continued support for recovery and rebuilding efforts. They have opened up their home to friends that were evacuated. Donations of time and money are needed for the victims. They have lost everything. To attack any person offering support is immature and offensive. It would be nice to see some maturity in the comments during this tragedy. The nasty comments can resume on another occasion.
ReplyDeleteMeghan and Harry is such an asset to the British royal family!
ReplyDeletePeut-être que tout le monde n'a pas envie de chanter sur les toits le montant du ou des dons effectués !
ReplyDeleteDid they actually do something to help, or was this a PR event for them?
ReplyDeleteI usually keep myself from commenting on the Sussexes. But what on earth are they even doing there? Gawking at homes the fire took away in no official capacity at all? Do they represent the Californian authorities? Surely not. Yes, this is something that royals would do - in their own country, when something dreadful had happened, for moral (and also financial by way of Government) support. But - the USA are not a monarchy, nor do they have approved of Harry and Meghan to represent them in any shape, way, or form. Are there any other celebs out and about publicly, keeping police, firefighters, officials from the government, and other important helpers, from doing their work, for PR purposes? I think not. Ever since Meghan had to face a huge backlash on her Netflix cooking show, she desperately tries to spin her negative PR into a more positive one (again!), and this - imho - is part of this strategy. Sorry, but I don't buy into her "humanitarian" story any longer. She is doing things like that for attention grabbing purpose only. Sorry that I don't have to say anything nice today, but I'm quite fed up with them both by now.
