On January 9, 2025, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain welcomed the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Spain, as they do every year, at the Royal Palace of Madrid. The Diplomatic Corps comprises a total of 126 resident embassies in the country and nearly 800 consulates, including 153 career consulates and over 600 honorary ones.
Additionally, another 49 countries are accredited to Spain but are based in cities such as Paris, London, Brussels. Furthermore, 42 international organizations have offices in Spain.
Such a strange outfit, as if the Queen grabbed something in a hurry, she can do better.
ReplyDeleteFashion choices, especially by public figures, can often be more deliberate than they seem.
DeleteHmmm I wish she’d chosen a softer top; the business styling of the collar / buttons although beautiful doesn’t pair well with the skirt. It’s a rare “dressing down” for her when she’s normally dressed pitch perfect for any public occasion.
DeleteTotally agree.
DeleteQueen dressed like an Amish lady, very conservative
ReplyDeleteThe majority of Amish communities are found in the U.S., sorry darling we don’t do that in Europe.
DeleteLOL.
DeleteThe Amish wish they could dress like that. I don't see the comparison.
DeleteAnon 16 50, the post says ‘like an Amish lady’ Makes no difference where she is or where the Amish are based. Your comment is rude
Delete22:30 no the comment is not rude, but your accusation is pretty abrupt. Stay nice here, we are here to have fun!
Delete@16:50 fair comeback for a silly comment!
DeleteA very rare but definitive No from me for combining this (type of) shirt with a swishy long skirt.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you! Helena
Delete16:04 - I agree.
DeleteAgree !!
DeleteWe all have "off" days. This is definitely one for her.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm, I like the outfit but it seems like a brooch or necklace would of blended the two pieces together and given a more finished look.
ReplyDeleteNecklaces and brooches cannot repare an outfit which is totally wrong.
DeleteSuperbe association du chemisier blanc avec le très joli bleu de la jupe fluide que je vois quand même légèrement trop longue ; bon choix que les boucles d'oreilles pendantes composées de petits diamants/saphir !
ReplyDeleteThis white blouse stays only just that and gives a Cinderella impression.
ReplyDeleteThe white blouse looks like a school uniform shirt. It’s too plain and utilitarian for this formal event. Not one oh Queen Letizia’s better looks
DeleteAnnieM
But the King is very dashing!
ReplyDeleteAgree with the negative comments. I don't like the contrast of the white/cream blouse and the dark lilac skirt. But her earrings are very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteFelipe: "Are you ready to go?"
ReplyDeleteLetizia: "There's another reception today?! Oh shoot!"
And then she just grab whatever was at the front of the closet.
But, hey, we've all had those days.
17:40 made me laugh. Thank you!
DeleteGoogle the event over the last few years. Evening or overly overworked gowns look garish in the daylight, but a long dress or gown are required. This is a bridge between being overly formal and not outdressing the ladies in attendance while dripping in jewels.

Not formal enough for such an event! In recent months Queen Letizia is almost always dressed down no matter what the occasion in comparison to how she used to dress.
ReplyDeleteTrue!
DeleteThis is a daytime event. It is difficult to dress formally for this time of day. I think she is doing the best she can with the restrictions she faces. Most of her formal gowns are not appropriate for daytime events. She has a small collection of simple gowns and long skirts for the formal daytime events that Spain has.
DeleteAnche per me è un NO, perché non credo che questa gonna lunga e larga sia adatta alla sua fisicità.
ReplyDeletePerò gli orecchini sono belli.
Rossella 🖤
The outfit makes me think of that other skirt and shirt she wore on state visit to Italy. Next to King Felipe in his impeccable suit she looks a bit like someone of the household. This is a big no for me. She has so many beautiful dresses of which she could have chosen one to wear on a reception with the diplomatic corps.
ReplyDeleteGenerally I do appreciate Queen Letizia fashion choices.
ReplyDeleteBut I can’t stand this one.
Of course, the shirt is Intek park
In general, I like Queen Letizia's fashion choices.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm not so keen on this one.
Of course, the white shirt is a timeless fashion accessory.
But in this case, it doesn't work well with this type of skirt.
I understand the idea behind the look, but as I said, the skirt isn't well chosen.
It could have been shorter and perhaps more flared; also, the fabric could have been different, less flowing.
However, her husband, King Felipe, is elegant, as usual; a beautiful couple, who exude serenity.
-Astrid.
I think a white, collared, button shirt is a timeless fashion piece - but only when paired with appropriate bottoms eg jeans, tailored suit or tailored business style skirt. I don’t think such a shirt goes well with prettier bottoms such as pretty skirts. I remember Meghan when working with the royal family wore similar a few times and I thought then also that her blouses were beautiful but clashed with the bottoms and occasion. That said Letizia is often wearing fashion at the very start of trend so maybe we will see a lot of this in the coming year?
DeleteYes maybe the length of the skirt is too long. I am visualizing it shorter with this blouse and it seems to me it would work
DeleteWell... Not much to add, i also don't like the pairing, such a pitty, the skirt and earrings are lovely but indeed not be even super Letizia got away with this look. Oh well, we all have been in there!
ReplyDeleteLuna
The skirt has a lovely flow, and movement. Her crisp white shirt looks good. I believe this is the dress for this type of event, I read it somewhere. She looks dignified and very elegant. The earrings are just enough.
ReplyDeleteThe outfit is great per se, but on most people, including Letizia, it looks out of proportion. You have to be naturally low-waisted to pull it off. Right now, she looks too short at the top and too long at the bottom, the skirt just carries away the outfit, including her persona. Perhaps someone like Michelle Obama could do with the clothes worn as they are, but for petit Letizia this is a definite no. If the shirt was more elaborate to draw the eye of the onlooker or the skirt not so high-waisted, flare or long, it could have worked. A rare miss for Letizia, because she usually scores 12 out of 10 with her looks. Makeup and accessories are perfection, as always.
DeleteLetizia is not petite. She is 5'6". She only looks shorter because Felipe is almost 6'6".
DeleteGorgeous skirt--love the color and the swish! Her earrings are beautiful. But the choice of a white business-style even casual shirt is a major no--in fact, a complete not at all. If Queen Letizia had chosen a different top, something softer, more elegant, dressier I think I would have really liked the whole look. Meanwhile, King Felipe looks very dapper and elegant in his morning suit.

このようなブラウスの装いの時には、ウエストの生地がたるまないようにスカートの中で何かしらの工夫をしているのでしょうか?王妃はいつもスマートに着こなしていますね。
ReplyDeleteIt's possible that Her Majesty uses clever tailoring or design techniques to ensure a smooth fit. Her ability to wear outfits so effortlessly and gracefully is truly impressive!
DeleteThe shirt ruins the outfit completely.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the intention was to create a unique or modern look.
DeleteOne should always view fashion the context of the event, current trends, and in this case the court rules that apply. Based on observation and comments from Spanish posters, this event requires a long dress and no overstated jewelry. This is the second event this week at that location that required the same dress 'protocol' as royal experts are fond of saying.
ReplyDeleteA crisp white shirt with a dressy skirt has been a fashion staple for years. Sharon Stone made it famous, and Queen Rania received international acclaim in 2004 when she wore a similar ensemble to the wedding of this couple. This event and their wedding can still be seen on YouTube. Several of the lady ambassadors or wives of the ambassadors wore variations of the outfit. Some even wore pastel shirts. This may well be a current trend in Madrid. The Queen has been attending for 20 years. It is presumptuous to infer that she does not know what is required.

👏🏻
DeleteWell said. I also thought of Sharon Stone and that jaw-dropping outfit at the Oscars. She actually wore her husband's dress shirt that night.
