Queen Sonja Welcomes MiRA Center Leaders Fakhra Salimi and Khansa Ali

Pakistani-born Norwegian human rights activist Fakhra Salimi, and Khansa Ali

On January 9, 2025, Queen Sonja of Norway received Fakhra Salimi and Khansa Ali from the MiRA Center at the Royal Palace in Oslo. Queen Sonja has been the patron of the MiRA Center for many years. The MiRA Center is a resource center dedicated to supporting women with minority backgrounds, emphasizing the importance of empowering them to voice their aspirations and define their own goals.

Pakistani-born Norwegian human rights activist Fakhra Salimi, and Khansa Ali

Fakhra Salimi, a Norwegian human rights activist had been leading the MiRA Center since its establishment in 1989. On January 1, 2025, she stepped down from her position, passing the leadership to Khansa Ali. Queen Sonja has long been an advocate for the rights and well-being of immigrant women in Norway and serves as the patron of the MiRA Center. In this role, she has visited the center and participated in its events on numerous occasions.
