Pics. N° 2 & 3 are lovely. The coat looks better unbuttoned. Her handbag on the last picture looks like one of the famous Delvaux handbags, but it isn't.

The last photo of her sitting by the window is just wonderful. Full of warmth, cheer, and a casual, elegant style.

The other photos are nice, but I'm not crazy about the clothes she's wearing in them, though I will say that the choice of colours is very inspired to coordinate perfectly with the outdoor background. I like that about them.

Wishing the Duchess a very Happy 60th Birthday.

The indoor photo is just fabulous and seems to encapsulate Duchess Sophie’s personality as far as we know it. The outfit is perfect. For the outdoor photos, while she still looks lovely, I’m sad to see the green trousers which, imv, detract from the overall look.

@AnnieM - Agreed. She looks lovely, but I cringed a bit to see the green pants.

I disagree with you. I really like this color combination. Green brown and ivory. Great!

  5. Presque 60 ans, Sophie est toujours aussi belle ; j'aime beaucoup son manteau en jacquard qu'elle peut porter aussi bien avec un pantalon qu'une robe légèrement plus courte ou même une jupe droite !

The sitting picture is excellent, even if the shoe part could have been solved differently (who wants to see part of one sole in an arranged picture). It is not the first time that she combines green with brown - can I openly say that it is ugly? These pants can go to charity. Nevertheless happy birthday to this adorable lady.

Yes, you can say anything openly. But I think her outfit is a great choice, including the pants.

Why is she only duchess of a small town? Is she from that town?

Edinburgh is not a small town. It is the Capital of Scotland.
She is not a duchess in her own right.

Please educate yourself on the Dukedom here:

A small town? Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland with a population of nearly half a million.

    3. First, her husband holds the title, and what seems good enough for him and his late father, who, after all, happened to be the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, might suffice for her as well. Second, the Dukedom of Cambridge (which still is a title of William, The Prince of Wales) originates from a far smaller city than Edinburgh, but seemed to just work fine for an direct heir to the throne. It is never about the size of a city or town of a dukedom. This is totally irrelevant. Third, no, she hails from Wales (at least her family does) and is The Duchess of Edinburgh because her husband is the Duke of Edinburgh (see also under "First"). Formerly, the couple was know as The Earl and The Countess of Wessex.

16:52 Your questions are out of the world.
Your being unaware of some basic geography notions is even more upsetting.

      @ DCS
I think anonymous 16:52 is not aware about the titles given in the U.K. to members of the Royal Family. One must admit it is sometimes complicated with so many dukes and duchesses, counts and earls and ladies named after all those "counties" or "provinces" or "duchy's" or whatever they are called in the U.K.. One cannot be familiar with all the different names and titles given to nobility in every country with a monarchy. Like you explained the size of a city or town has nothing to do with the title having the same name and is given to a royal, but who knows that ? Maybe for Brits living in the U.K. it is obvious, but for someone from another country where such titles and rangs do not exist, it can be hard to understand.

    6. Anon16:03. Of course it can be hard to understand. And there are huge differences between a dukedom and a duchy. Basically, there are only two duchies in the UK, and they are the King's Duchy Lancaster, and the Prince of Wales' Duchy (Duke of Cornwall) Cornwall. Could be three, when you are counting in the Duchy of Normandy for the King, but it gets really, really complicated here. By the way, I am German, not British.

I agree! Love the combination of colors this lovely lady wears in this picture and on other occasions. I guess it suits her personality and not what is generaly thought of as good dressing. She looks fabulous (for her or any age) !

As many have already said, all the photographs are lovely, but choices of clothing are questionable. The green pants are horrible, paired up with a brown jumper and cream coat,is a strange choice.
There were photographs in a magazine of Sophie back in 2011 onwards,I have to say,she has barely aged! Her choices of clothing back then was so much more flattering and youthful. I hope she returns to those choices.

There are 2 pictures of Queen Mathilde taken in the snow. About 10 days ago it was snowing in Brussels and one decided to take 2 original birthday pictures of Queen Mathilde. I wonder if we are going to see them here. I have seen them on other sites.

  18. Lovely photos of someone who seems to be a very nice, hard-working British royal. I giggle whenever I see the green pants as I know there will be comments. Wide green pants are on trend here and I see young women in them regularly.

  20. I also don't like the color combination of the first images, however the inside picture is lovely. she looks great for her age, she is very active, since 2020 I believe, representing the royal family and she comes across as lovely lady.
May she have happy returns of this day!
