At the start of each new year, the Japanese Imperial Family shares family photos. This year, the Imperial Household Agency has released new photos featuring Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, Princess Aiko, Crown Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko, Princess Kako, Prince Hisahito, as well as Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko.
The photos of Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko were taken at the Imperial Residence on December 29. Photos of the Crown Prince’s family were taken on December 26, at the Akishino Residence. Meanwhile, photos of Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko were taken on December 13, at the Sento Imperial Residence.
Complete symmetry, as far as possible: two-pieces for the ladies in the family of the Emperor, round necks in the crown princely family. Gentlemen wear the same anyway. But! Michiko is enchanting as always, also refreshingly and tastefully asymmetrical.
DeleteVery formal photos, but yes that's Japan. They all look very friendly and sweet. I still wonder why the constitution has not changed in Japan with reference to the succession of the imperial throne. Why is a woman ( princess Kaiko) not allowed to be the successor? It's 2025!
ReplyDeleteThat would princess Aiko daughter of the current emperor
DeleteI like the interesting cuffs on Aiko’s jacket and the Emperor’s tie is a nice pattern. For me E.Empress Michiko has the nicest dress. More modern than what Aiko is wearing. Lovely family
ReplyDeleteTwo nice ladies - Empress Masako and her daughter Aiko. One in her sixties, the other in her twenties. Both dressed exactly the same - except for the color shade, There was a mistake somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI do not take references to the conservatism and traditions of the Japanese court. If for the sake of tradition a young girl is dressed the same as a sixty-year-old lady, these are bad traditions and rules, and should be changed.

I think the difference between young and old in fashion is quite a new invention and not such a good one. Through the ages, there was no big difference in what women wore, small and large, young and old. I cannot see even one reason why it should be somehow "better" to differentiate according to age.
DeleteIndeed formal photos, but lovely to see the families together.
ReplyDeleteNo need to change traditional dress. The workmanship and fabrics are exquisite .I would just like Aiko to be dressed a little more cheerfully. She dutifully wears what is asked of her, I would hope that she gets to wears what she wants in private.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes for the New Year to HM The Emperor Naruhito ,HM The Empress Masako, HRH The Princess Aiko and the Entire Royal Family of Japan
ReplyDeleteFormal, a little stiff. Love it. Happy New Year to everyone.
