On January 2, 2025, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, along with Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko, attended the 2025 New Year General Public Greeting at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The event was also attended by Princess Aiko, Crown Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko, Princess Kako, and Princess Hanako. The Imperial Family extended New Year greetings to the crowd that gathered at the Imperial Palace.

Prince Hitachi refrained from attending the event due to his advanced age. Members of the Takamado and Mikasa Imperial families also did not participate, following the passing of Princess Yuriko of Mikasa in November. Last year, the general public’s visits for the greeting were canceled due to the strong earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula in central Japan on New Year’s Day.

The younger empress's exquisite lace dress, her confident composure, the drop earrings, the ribbon brooch... just speechless. She usually gets it right, but this time to me it's just breath-taking. Haven't seen in a while such a stunning combination of dress/makeup/jewellery/persona.

  2. J'ai plaisir à voir l'empereur émerite qui porte une élégante cravate de la même couleur comme celle de son fils l'empereur ; belle association du gilet - De nouvelles boucles d'oreilles pendantes à perles chez Masako ?!

Gray tie is more of less compulsory with morning suit especially in very conservative Japan. Love the pearl pendants of the Empress Masako.

Such exquisite fabric. Love the seed pearls on P Aiko neckline and cuffs. The pastels colour is okay but I think her complexion needs brighter, strong colours.
The elderly empress a delight to see, her dress seems ‘80’s in the shoulders. Love seeing the jewelry, especially the pearls.

I completely agree with 11:57 (unsigned), I could not have expressed myself any better. Very interesting to see the details of the various fabrics, especially the lacy details. The crown Princess is in blue velvet, wonderful contrast.

    皇后陛下のドレスは10年前にトンガ国王陛下の戴冠式にご出席の際作られたものです。この時期から雅子様のご体調にご回復の兆しがあったと報道されています。とても縁起の良いドレスなのです。

    1. Interesting! Thank you. She seems well recovered from her injury earlier this year, too.
