On Monday, January 27, 2025, Japanese Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and their daughter Princess Aiko visited the exhibition Claude Monet: The Late Waterscapes at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo. During their visit, the Imperial Family viewed Monet's iconic Water Lilies paintings. The exhibition focuses on the art of Monet’s later years, with a central theme highlighting his Water Lilies series.
Oscar-Claude Monet (1840 – 1926) was a French painter and founder of Impressionism painting who is seen as a key precursor to modernism, especially in his attempts to paint nature as he perceived it.
Earlier that day, Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako received an audience with the winners of the Emperor's Cup for Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Following the audience, Their Majesties viewed an exhibition highlighting the achievements of the award recipients.
The empress charming and sobre elegance as always. I was a bit chocked by the suit of princess Aiko. Unfortunately it does not flatter her at all and make her look so old fashioned and old
ReplyDeleteI agree, poor little Princess Aiko, she is such a lovely young woman.

I agree.
DeleteI agree, perhaps if the princess had slacks with that jacket it would of looked better.
DeleteYes, Anon 16:18, slacks would have improved this outfit.
DeleteThe Empress looks very smart--the trouser suit is well fitting and a lovely colour, For Princess Aiko, I think if the suit skirt was narrower and even a little shorter and worn with a shoe with even the modest heel favoured by the Japanese royals, then it would have been okay. As it is it reminds me of the clothes that female teachers wot in the 60s
DeleteThe Empress is the epitome of grace and elegance. The burgundy suit is flattering in color.
ReplyDeleteWe saw Princess Aiko in a beautiful cream coat a few days back, which suited her age and figure. This chequered suit is a little old fashioned for a young lady.
Lowri.
I like the colour coordination of the imperial family, not only the couple, we are used to that, but this time Princess Aiko is included. A touching gesture.

I fully agree. I could not have said it better. CC
DeleteMasako est superbe dans son costume Bordeaux ; Aiko est belle mais sa jupe dans un style plus près du corps apporterait un look élégant plus adapté à une jeune fille de son âge !
ReplyDeleteEmpress Masako's great pantsuit and Princess Aiko's terrible skirt.
ReplyDeleteAre tailors in Japan not able to sew a nice skirt?
Princess Aiko's costume looks like an 80-year-old grandmother's costume. My 75-year-old mother also has a gray costume, but a much better cut.
Princess Aiko's pumps also look like they came from a senior citizen's closet. It's okay that they are low, but their shape is unfashionable.
Princess Aiko is very nice and kind. But her dress is not.

You saved me saying what you commented agree entirely.
DeleteThe princess must have some old nanny who is making her clothes choices. Honestly something is amiss here to have a young girl dressed like this.
ReplyDeleteIs this five-strand pearl necklace an inheritance from HM Elisabeth II?

Sorry, mistakenly posted under another post.. This question was directed to the Princess of Wales' outfit on the next page.
DeleteLove the family color coordination! The Empress looks fabulous in her burgundy colored suit--the suit is beautifully fitted, very elegant, but still simple in design. Poor Princess Aiko--since a shorter skirt or more narrow skirt would not pass inspection by the Imperial Fashion Police she is stuck with a suit designed for her grandmother. I agree with others--perhaps had the skirt been swapped out for trousers the outfit would have been excellent. Her suit is a beautiful plaid and the burgundy blouse shows what a marvelous color it is for her. I really wish her father the Emperor would step in and allow some modernization in terms of dress for the ladies of the court--especially for his lovely daughter and niece (Princess Kako).

Wow, Masako looks smashing! The burgundy suits her and I feel like this is one of the more modern ensembles she's worn recently. Which unfortunately makes the poor fit of Aiko's ensemble even more apparent. The top bit isn't terrible and I love the colour coordination that's going on. But fitted trousers instead of the skirt would've been a better choice.

Very nice look for the Empress. For the Pss I like the jacket the skirt is so so on her. She is a beautiful young woman,

愛子様のジャケットは2年前のお誕生日の写真で初めて拝見しました。その後も組み合わせを変えてお召しになっています。この仕立ての良いスーツは、地味ですが、真面目な愛子様らしさを私は感じます。
