A group of schoolchildren from Thimphu marked Nyilo by reciting Lolay—traditional verses of good wishes—before King Jigme Khesar Namgyel, Queen Jetsun Pema, Prince Jigme Namgyel, Prince Ugyen, and Princess Sonam Yangden at Lingkana Palace. Nyilo is a traditional New Year celebrated annually in the Shar and Wang regions of western Bhutan.

Nyilo, observed as the New Year in parts of western Bhutan, marks the return of longer days after the Winter Solstice, according to the Bhutanese calendar. On this day, children visit homes to recite blessings for a happy and prosperous year and receive gifts as part of the celebration. It has become a tradition for Bhutan’s Royal Family to welcome children reciting Lolay to Lingkana Palace to celebrate Nyilo each year.

Such a handsome family. I like the coppery colour the princess is wearing. Cute little pink coat for an adorable little girl
