On the occasion of the New Year, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium hosted a New Year's reception for foreign diplomats, chiefs of mission (ambassadors and consuls), and their spouses accredited in Brussels. The traditional reception was held on January 9, 2025, at the Royal Castle of Laeken. Queen Mathilde is wearing an off-white top and a black sequined skirt from the Belgian fashion house Natan.

La reine est toujours jolie avec du blanc, ça la rend lumineuse.
ReplyDeleteJolie jupe festive. Tout l'ensemble lui va bien.
Mais j'ai juste froid aux avant-bras pour elle ! Paloma.
The longer hair suits very well Queen Mathilde. I also like the earrings. However, the top makes me think of a sweater. Helena
ReplyDeleteThis must be the latest style, stark contrast pieces. A brooch or necklace would tie the pieces together. Queen of Spain wore a white blouse and blue skirt, sharp contrast as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat!
ReplyDeleteTechnically spoken: how does one make a top like that?!
To Anon 17:23, I thought about that, too. Master command of draping fabric. Also, there may be some sturdy interfacing in key places. Chris L
DeleteElégante Mathilde même si à mon humble avis, le style original du haut ne l'avantage pas trop ; j'aime beaucoup ses nouvelles boucles d'oreilles !
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde's white top has the same cut as the cobalt blue dress she wares on the Christmas card of the Belgian royal family last December 2024. It is a dress she wore a couple of times before.
ReplyDeleteMagnifica Mathilde, il bianco le dona molto. Bella anche la gonna, le sta benissimo.
ReplyDeleteRossella 🖤
I don't really like the top as such, and I don't even know why (material too hard, as it is the case with Natan quite often?) , and also curious what the back side looks like. But: the whole ensemble works really very well on her.
ReplyDeleteThe material is neoprene. It is a soft material. I have a top myself in this type of fabric and it is very soft to wear. The back of the top is probably a V neckline. Just like the cobalt blue dress she wore on the Christmas 2024 card of the Belgian Royal family.
DeleteJust perfect. Maybe a broche at the blouse could have been an added value
ReplyDeleteIf you attach a brooch on this kind of fabric there is a great chance that the marks will stay forever. I think nobody would like to ruin a new blouse like that.
DeleteFully agree with anon 07 34. In addition to the "technical" aspect, this outfit is a perfect minimalist choice.
DeleteI do really like her top. Beautiful ! In my opinion, the color is well-chosen.
ReplyDeleteIt matches in some manner with her earrings, made with pearls.
-Astrid.
I really love this outfit!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I would change are the shoes... Can't really figure out if it's maybe because of the pantyhose, but something doesn't feel right imo ;-)
Other than that: perfect match for her and the occasion!
QM is wearing simple black heels in patent leather. I don't see any problem.
Delete@07:36 I don't see any problem either, was just saying that I would pick different shoes. That's all. It's only a matter of taste. And I repeat: I really love this outfit, and it's a perfect match for her and this occasion!
Delete11.52, what suggestion do you have instead?
DeleteShe looks lovely in white.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, she really looks smashing. Love the top and skirt, her colored hose, perfect color and her shoes, she looks great. Her shoes and tiny clutch loved it. Her hair looks good , but her earrings, stunning.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde looks gorgeous here! Love this skirt in particular and I feel the top is a good choice. One issue I have with the top is the neckline where it meets the sleeves--sorry, but that's a rather odd connection. Still, I like the pairing. I also like Mathilde's longer hairstyle. She looks elegant and chic here.

My secret 2025 wish is for Mathilde to move substantially away from Natan and toward softer materials and designs. There is so much more out there! She looks elegant here as she always does but I don’t think Natan’s designs are particularly good for her and don’t understand the long adherence to the brand. Occasionally there’s something from that designer that works brilliantly for her but on the whole the overly structured designs seem to clash with her sweetness and figure.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Helena
DeleteFor me the material is fine, it suits her quite well. I like diversity and not sticking to traditional materials. However Natan is not always a success, as always customers need to be selective. I go for this outfit.
DeleteVery nice skirt, I don’t like the top, but is suits her, she looks alway ‘très royale’, a lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteInspired by the Grand Duchess? https://monarchie.lu/fr/actualites/80-ans-de-la-bataille-des-ardennes-dejeuner-prive-au-palais-grand-ducal Helena
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:07, I like the way you phrased the question. With sustainability, there is also the possibility of borrowed from? Claire
