The British Royal Family gathered at St Mary Magdalene Church near Sandringham for the traditional Christmas Day service. King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Earl of Wessex, and Lady Louise, attended the traditional Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.
Also in attendance were Princess Anne, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, Princess Beatrice, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Zara Tindall, Mike Tindall, Mia Tindall, Sarah Chatto, Peter Phillips, and Savannah Phillips.
Anne wins for me hands down! Splendid and delightful colour combo and brilliant boots and hat, too! - Ellie
ReplyDeleteAgree !! Beautiful !!
DeleteNot my opinion, I have to say, too old-fashioned. My favorites are Sophie and her daughter Louise. So pleased to see Catherine of course, her green coat looks quite good.
DeletePlus the Earl of Snowdon and Lady Sarah Chattoo and her family! Mainly, the expected bunch, minus the Brooksbanks and Sarah, DoY. They all look cosied up and lovely. Lady Louise's shoes are quite delicate, however.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if Catherine and Camilla chose matching outfits. And they both look wonderful. So good to see Catherine smile!
ReplyDeleteNo, the greens are different shades and the styles of each coat are quite different.
DeleteBeautiful and chique outfit of Sarah Chatto !!
ReplyDeletePrincess of Wales looks beautiful as always, except the length of her coat, it is toooo long. Catherine made a faux pas by wearing green. She is not supposed to outshine the Queen. I also think she should soften her eye makeup, underlining with dark crayon is ‘passé’.
ReplyDeleteQueen Camilla looks nice.
Duchess of Edinburgh. Superb colour, that blue stands out. The coat could also be a tad shorter. There something about her hat, I cannot pinpoint, the style maybe or is it too big?
Zara. Very nice, that monochrome Aubergine colour is very trendy.
Princess Beatrice. Se looks ok. I like her camel coat even if it is a little tight. (I believe she is expecting) but I am not a fan of the green velvet bandeau.
Princess Anne. I like the jacket and the dark green (?) pleated skirt. I would prefer the boots without the tassels, but it is only a question of taste.
Lady Chatto. Winter cream coat accessorized with black, simple and elegant.
mjt
Colors of what the ladies will be wearing are submitted and approved ahead of time, so no faux pas here. Dark liner (not crayon) is still used by many models, actors, and designers, so not passe.
DeleteLady R
Lady R. Thank you for correcting me about the faux pas and the .
Deletemjt
I don't agree with a lot of what you say. There is no faux pas by Kate. Kate will always outshine Camilla. She is a beauty. The color she wears has nothing to do with it. I can't see anything wrong with her eye makeup either. I don't believe there is anything "official" in terms of what color others can wear. The Queen and Camilla both wore purple to the Commonwealth day service, March 2019. Camilla is wearing a nice coat for once. I like the self belt as opposed to the housecoat style she usually wears. She looks much better than usual. Yes, Beatrice is expecting. If you knew that, I wonder why you mentioned her coat being too tight. Lastly, I think Anne looks very dated, as usual. That being said, it is a good thing for sustainability, just like Beatrice wearing a non-maternity coat.
DeleteYou are quite welcome mjt.
DeleteLady R
Catherine is wearing Blackwatch plaid while Camilla’s coat is a solid green. Catherine is a beauty and her lovely personality will always outshine Camila. MR
DeleteIs green more popular than red in during Christmas in Great Britain?
ReplyDeleteAnything can be worn. Anything. Last year, the Princess of Wales appeared all clad in blue. Shocking, isn't it?
DeleteNo one in the british royal family is wearing a christmas sweater!
ReplyDeleteNow, I didn't know they're supposed to. Guess what - no one in my family wears a Christmas jumper (correct British term for it) as well.
DeleteHa ha 15:29… a funny point! You have no idea what they change into when they get back home for lunch!!! Or maybe what they’re wearing under their coats?!
DeleteWho wears Christmas jumpers to church?
DeleteT
Funnily enough, our parish minister today came by our house (he had something to return that I lent to him for a play in church on Christmas Eve) and he wore a bright red Christmas jumper. Just as a random note...
DeleteI am not sure but I think that Princess Kate’s does not look all that well which is concerning. It could be the make up or it could be that she cried. I do hope that she will be well. This green suits her well.
ReplyDeleteShe is a bit tired other than that She look beautiful as always 🌹🌺
DeleteFashion and appearance are very subjective, and everyone interprets things differently. If you don't think Princess Catherine looked unwell or emotional, perhaps it was just the way the makeup or lighting came across in that particular moment. It's easy for us to read into these things, especially when we're used to seeing public figures looking so composed.
DeleteAs for the green, it's great that you agree it suits her—it's one of those colors that often complements her well, and she does tend to choose colors thoughtfully for each occasion.
I think it is quite normal that Pr Catherine shows traces of what happened in 2024. I hope she can continue to improve the recovery. But she looks well enough to believe that she is on the right track.
DeleteThe Wales family looks so lovely and festive in their coordinating outfits. Charlotte really looks like William to me. Very sweet to see her holding his hand during the walk.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
And what a beautiful little girl Charlotte is!
DeleteRoyal Watcher,I agree with you about Charlotte looking like her father. And Coralie, I agree with you as well, she’s a beautiful little girl, and I love her coat 😊
DeleteJe ne sais pas vers quel regard peut s'attarder mais la couleur verte autant chez Camilla que Kate est superbe ; trop mignonne Charlotte dans son manteau tartan à col dont les revers noirs !
ReplyDeleteI wish the King would wear a new winter coat, this one looks 30 years old and might be one of the late prince Philip !!
ReplyDeleteI believe it is Prince Philip's coat, indeed, and I love that the king is wearing it time and again. No new coat needed.
DeleteDSC is right!
DeleteHave you seen the bbc show which should be on YouTube where Charles discusses clothing sustainability and the environment and why he prefers to where clothes until they’re worn out? Explains his position very well and it made me think again about my own clothes.
DeleteIt’s always interesting when public figures wear items that seem to have a long history, and sometimes it can give the impression that their wardrobe hasn’t updated in a while. If the Kings winter coat does look a bit dated or reminiscent of Prince Philip’s style, it could be that he prefers classic, timeless pieces over more trendy ones. Some royals have a strong attachment to certain garments, often for sentimental reasons, and it’s possible this coat has sentimental value or simply suits his personal style.
DeleteContenance, please!
DeleteDanish seems the most likely native language of the writer Dorothe 😊
DeleteI think it's lovely to see Catherine looking as radiant as ever. When you're relatively young, you can bounce back from life's drastic changes more easily. That said, her hair does look rather like it's had a bit of help, perhaps extensions, a bit of backcombing, or clip-ins. Not that it's a bad thing – sometimes we women need to give ourselves a little boost to look our best. She looks fantastic, as does the whole family, except Beatrice, but given she's pregnant, I suppose it's understandable that her fashion choices are a bit off currently. Frieda
ReplyDeleteQueen Camilla and Catherine both look marvelous in their Xmas green. Love both ladies hats too. Catherine's Black Watch tartan scarf is elegant and I love that Charlotte's coat matches her mother's scarf. Sophie is beautiful in her blue coat and I love Louise's look--the winter white and pale mauve coat are very flattering to her. Zara is fabulous in aubergine--such a beautiful color and she looks wonderful in it. I love the Princess Royal's overall look and her hat is the best of everyone's. Beatrice looks wonderful--I'm so glad to see her here. Her headband is beautiful. Wish I could see more of Lady Sarah--her outfit is gorgeous! All the kids are growing up so much! The last photo of Charlotte is fabulous--such a beautiful smile!
ReplyDeleteJanet
Catherine looks lovely, as does Sophie, love this shade of blue. Zara looks wonderful as does the Princess Royal.
ReplyDeleteI’m partial to “Woofie”. He looks adorable with his dad and step mom.
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks very nice, also nice to see Pss Beatrice and husband and Bonus-son Wolfie. Nice to see her bump growing. Nice to see so many members being there to support the King and Queen.
ReplyDeletecss
Disappointed in many outfits there today. Beatrice does not suit the coat she was wearing. A straight line would have completed her shape at present. She does not look well, I hope all is okay with her. The Queen does not suit this shade of green or style, a belt ads weight to you. She is better in blues. Sophie looked so elegant her coat was amazing with the pleating at the back. Sarah Chatto looked wonderful in her outfit. Zara as usual gorgeous. Catherine looked very elegant., her smile out shone everything and everyone there. To see her and the King there was the best Christmas gift for all the family.
ReplyDeleteIt’s understandable to have different opinions on the outfits. Beatrice’s coat might not have been to everyone’s taste, but perhaps it was a style choice for comfort or warmth. The Queen's green outfit and belt could certainly be a matter of personal preference, and it’s lovely to hear that you appreciated Sophie’s elegance and Sarah Chatto’s look. Zara always seems to have a natural grace, doesn’t she? Catherine does have a way of lighting up any room, and her smile truly does shine through.
DeleteOne thing is for sure: Princess Kate is such a beautiful woman. I love this green on her and I love the length of the coat. I makes her look regal and elegant. She looks a bit tired but who is not in these Christmas times.
ReplyDeletePrincess Catherine should go easy on the dark eyeshadow. It does not benefit her make-up. She is looking good in her green too long coat, but if she likes it that way, it is she who must wear it after all. Princess Charlotte is looking good in her lovely coat. She is dressed according her age. That is what I like for little girls. Her brothers are dressed like their father, a bit too old. I suppose they cannot be dressed otherwise than formal to go to church.
ReplyDeleteWhat else would the boys wear to church? There is not a set age to wear a suit. It is certainly better than sticking little boys in short pants, especially in the winter.
Delete@Anon 16:3
DeleteOnly in the U.K. little boys are wearing short pants during winter.
So happy to see Princess Catherine back and I hope we will see a lot more of her next year
ReplyDelete100% Agreed.

Odd thing to wear a hat to church!
ReplyDeleteVery common, not odd at all.
DeleteThe tradition of British royals wearing hats to church, particularly at formal events like Christmas or Easter services, is rooted in both historical and cultural practices.
DeleteIn my country the last generation of women who wore hats to go to church are all passed away by now. Of course the royals are still wearing a hat sometimes on funerals, national events, formal events, etc.. In fact it is only a custom of the British, Danish and other Scandinavian royals to go to church with Christmas. In other countries I think, the priest of the Parish is coming to the royal castle or palace to read the ceremonial mass of Christmas at midnight in the chapel of the palace.
DeleteYou’re absolutely right that the tradition of wearing hats to church has largely faded, especially in many countries where it was once common. It’s interesting how certain royal families, like the British and Scandinavian royals, continue to uphold these customs at formal events. As for Christmas mass, it’s true that in some countries, royals prefer to hold services within the privacy of their palaces or chapels, creating a more intimate setting for the occasion. Each royal family has its own unique traditions that reflect both history and the evolving nature of their public roles.
DeleteThese hats 🤣😂
ReplyDeleteLove Zaras and Sophies(even if it could be a couple og inches shorter) coats, buts thats all. Hats ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteNice coat Lady Chatto has on, but the flowerpot hat ruins the overall look.
ReplyDeleteDear No Name 10:10, I read somewhere that Prince George wants to look just like his father on formal occasions, which one can somehow tell. When you look at Wolfie, you can see that there are less formal alternatives that still look smart and appropriate and are worn by aristocratic families. Of course Prince Louis wants to look like his brother and father.

DeleteTo me children must be dressed like children not like mini adults. They have plenty of time to wear ties and dark suits. The same for girls, but a girl has the advantage that there is more choice for them than for boys. The British styles are what they are "very British". In other countries the children of Royal families until a certain age can wear brighter colors and young boys do not have to wear a tie already. There are a lot of beautiful clothes for children these days (I don't talk about jeans, hoodies, sneakers etc..).
@Anon 8:12 I don't agree with you. My sons wore suits and ties at a very young age, when we were attending very important events. They are in their late 30s now. It is not just a "British" thing. Clothing companies have been making boys suits for decades.
Delete@ Anon. 16:35
DeleteThe difference is that in my country the suits for little boys were not copies of the suits fheir father wore. The suit my son wore at his first communion (in 1977) was made of blue tweed by a well known men's store. The jacket, although not the same, could be compared a bit with the cut of the biker jackets some teenagers are wearing now. The pants were cut in a classic way. He wore a white shirt underneath and a velvet blue bow (noeud papillon). I received many compliments by family members and friends for my son's "pant suit". After that period the little boys of 7 years old who had their first communion received a new outfit from their parents but it were sporty cotton clothes (no jeans) they could wear afterwards to go to school. The clothing stores for men still had the formal little suits for young boys, but they sold more of the modern cotton pants and bermuda's with a sporty jacket.
Dear No Name 8:12, If Prince George wants to look like his father, let him. I understand that Prince Oscar of Sweden also wishes to look like his father, tie and all. That is my point, why twist my words??? I remember my brother also wanting to dress like his father, it made him feel more grown-up. The Windsor children do not look as if they had been forced to dress against their will.
ReplyDelete🌞 Virginia
@ Virginia
DeleteI do not twist your words. I just said that it is not the custom everywhere in Europe that little boys wear pant suits and ties like adult men.
Princess Catherine has clearly won the hearts of the British public and the world, arguably surpassing the beloved Princess Diana in terms of admiration and respect. One key reason is her unwavering commitment to her family, particularly her children, showcasing a devoted motherhood that resonates deeply. Unlike Princess Diana, who faced intense media scrutiny and marital turmoil, Princess Catherine has navigated the pressures of royal life with poise and dignity, earning praise for her elegance and composure. Furthermore, her dedication to charitable causes, such as children's mental health and arts education, demonstrates a genuine passion for creating positive change. As she continues to grow into her royal role, Princess Catherine's relatability, kindness, and dedication have cemented her position as a cherished and respected member of the royal family.. What an amazing and beautiful women.
ReplyDeleteFeel free to adjust or add to this paragraph to suit your needs!
Thanks! I appreciate the flexibility 😛
DeleteI completely agree with this sentiment. Princess Catherine has certainly earned admiration for her grace, commitment to her family, and dedication to meaningful causes. Her ability to handle the challenges of royal life with such composure and her genuine passion for making a positive impact truly sets her apart. While Princess Diana's legacy will always remain significant, it's clear that Princess Catherine is carving her own path as a beloved and respected figure in the royal family.
DeleteLovely looks all around. Wonderful colour coordination between the Queen and the Princess of Wales, though I must say I prefer Camilla's look. It's so cozy and warm and the hat is appropriately festive. I really like Zara's burgundy and her bag, she might be my favourite of the bunch. Anne is Anne. Not overly fond of Sophie's and Louise's looks. The latter coat is a tad too long and the hat slightly too big/overpowering. Sophie's coat is beautiful, but clashes oddly with the sea of christmas-y greens, browns and reds - I look forward to seeing it on a different occasion.
