On December 6, 2024, Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the exhibition 'The Worlds of Paul Delvaux' at La Boverie in Liege. In commemoration of 100 years of surrealism, more than 150 paintings, drawings, and objects by the Belgian surrealist Paul Delvaux are on display in Liege. Delvaux (1897–1994) was a painter noted for his dream-like scenes of women, classical architecture, trains and train stations, and skeletons, often in combination.

Through these masterpieces, some of which have not been seen in years, the exhibition seeks to reveal lesser-known facets of the artist and situate his work within surrealism and, more broadly, within art history. Dedicated to Delvaux, a leading figure in 20th-century Belgian painting, this exhibition will remain on display until March 16, 2025.

  1. She looks fine. The color is beautiful, but the jacket could be a little longer. I like her earrings.

    1. Agree regarding the length of the jacket. And with everything else you said, too.

I agree about the length of the jacket as well. Because her legs are so long, a longer jacket would help even out her proportions.

I see your perspective, but I actually think the shorter jacket works well for her. With her tall frame, it adds a modern, chic touch without overwhelming her proportions. Sometimes, the shorter silhouette can highlight her long legs in a more striking way. Fashion is all about experimenting with different styles, and she pulls this one off with confidence!

    Beautifull colour.
Would like it more with a skirt.

I like this ensemble much better than the last one, Mathilde looks fantastic here. The trousers and earrings make it modern and a tad more casual for the occasion. The colour scheme fits beautifully with the paintings, too!

Elegant yet understated outfit, characterized by her sophisticated taste. Her ensemble for the occasion was tasteful and in line with her usual style—polished, with an appropriate balance of formality and modernity.

  5. Bel ensemble mais ceinturé légèrement moins haut, ce serait parfait !

    1. Yes the belt to come a bit lower would balance the outfit better. Love the hairstyle !

She looks very nice but I think that a long line jacket without accent to the waist will be more flattering.

  7. As already mentioned I feel the jacket would look better with more length, in saying that, the pants look great, nice length. The color of this pantsuit is beautiful. She looks fabulous.

I agree with the majority that the jacket being a little longer would have been better. The belt is not really needed. But then we arrive at the classic blazer type jacket. Since Queen Mathilde has several classic pant suits, she probably wished something different. An other style for the jacket would have been a possibility. She looks beautiful anyway.

I understand! It’s always interesting to see how different details can change the overall impression of an outfit. While the belt may not have been essential, it does add a bit of structure, and the slightly shorter jacket could just be part of her desire for something more modern. Queen Mathilde has a way of making bold choices work, and even if it's not a perfect look for everyone, she still looks stunning. It’s all about personal style in the end!

Queen Mathilde looks beautiful in this lovely suit. I like the color and the style--quite a feminine update on a traditional trouser suit. I love the thin belt as it so flattering for Mathilde. Yes, maybe a couple of inches could have been added to the jacket but I think it still looks good as it is.

  11. I like the color, but the jacket doesn't fit her well and makes her look heavier than she is.

    1. I actually think the jacket suits her quite well overall. Sometimes, a slightly looser or more structured style can give a different vibe, and it may be a choice to prioritize comfort or style over a perfectly fitted look. Fashion is subjective, and what works for one person might not always appeal to another!
