At the invitation of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, the Sultan and Prime Minister of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, is undertaking a state visit to Belgium. On December 3, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde received Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq following an official welcome ceremony at the Palace Square in Brussels. The King, Queen, and Sultan later visited the City Hall. In the evening, a State Banquet will be held at the Castle of Laeken.
This high-waisted, flared coat makes Mathilde look quite wide, but it really is a beautiful coat. The pleated styling at the back is lovely. Mathilde looks great with the coat, and even more without. Beautiful, simple and stylish dress. This deep red colour always suits her, and her hat is perfect for what appears to be a predominantly male attended event.

You are so right!
DeletePerhaps the placement of pocket flaps on the waistband makes for the wider look, because from the back it looks perfect.
DeleteIn my newspaper I read in the article concerning the state visit that Queen Mathilde didn't accompany the King and the Sultan to the City hall of Brussels because the Sultan came alone to Brussels without his wife, as it is the custom in Oman. I also noticed that the queen stayed two steps behind the men to respect the tradition as it is the custom in Oman.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde her complete outfit is by Dior. Except for the handbag which is new since the state visit to France this year, the coat, dress and hat served for other state visits since 2019. I wonder what she will wear (a tiara or not) during the state banquet this evening.
Ah, two state banquets going on tonight. Qatar state visit in the UK, and Oman state visit in Belgium. Nice.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the fedora type hat. QM I feel always looks better in pieces that don’t overshadow her face.
ReplyDeleteThe coat dress is lovely and a fitting autumnal color.
Looking forward to tonight’s state dinner.
Lowri.
There will be 2 State Dinners to look forward to tonight. Catherine won't be present at the UK one, though.

Beautiful dress, but it doesn't suit her figure.

I'm a bit torn on this one. I thought the coat was a bit frumpy - until I saw the back. My, that is some exquisite design and tailoring! Not a fan of the fedora hat, it looks particularly silly indoors without the coat. But then again the autumnal colours are very pretty... A mixed bag, really.

Not silly at all. It is a custom and tradition that (royal) ladies are taking off their coat but are keeping their hat once they are inside. Only the reception was in the Royal Palace of Brussels, so far the first official part of the visit. Afterwards they went to the more cosy Castle of Laeken for lunch.
DeletePersonally I like only the dress, the coat doesn't really suit her.
ReplyDeleteThe coat is beautiful, the view from behind, gorgeous, love the pleat effect. The high waist is a problem, regardless she looks fabulous. Love the color of her accessories. Love! the hat.
