Japanese Princess Aiko celebrated her 23rd birthday on December 1. To mark the occasion, the Imperial Household Agency released new photos of the Princess. The photos were taken on November 22 at the Imperial residence and the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. In October, as part of her official duties, Princess Aiko made her first solo visit to regional areas, attending the National Sports Festival in Saga, located in southwestern Japan.
ReplyDeleteThe teal blue/green sweater is a good colour for the princess. I can’t say I like the suit pants. I guess they were pairing the stripes in the sweater with the pants. It just seems off and I cant quite put my finger on it. I know long hair is in for young people but the fringe needs attention. It just seems like they are trying to give her a modern look but keeping the rigid old school rules.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Princess Aiko ! I say yes to the dark blue blouse but no to the plaid skirt, though we don't see much of it. I'm on the fence about the other outfit because the ribbed top jars with the pinstripe trousers, in my opinion. Or is there something awkward about the shoulders of the vest ?

A fiatal Michiko császárné az akkori divat szerinti, modern ruhákat hordott. Nem értem a fiatal generációt miért öltöztetik mindig divatjamúlt, matróna ruhákba.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to the Princess! Hard to believe she's 23--time does indeed fly. The blue sweater/blouse is a very pretty color for Aiko but I'm not a fan of this set of photos--Aiko looks so stiff in these. However, the outdoor photos are much better. Yes, all are posed photos, but outdoor photos are lovely. I do like the outfit she's wearing except that the trousers are a miss-match for the vest and top. I like the idea of it but the trousers need to be more narrow and not pleated. The 2 photos that do not show the trousers are wonderful. She also looks marvelous with her hair in that up-do.

ReplyDeleteI saw the actual video of this photo shoot/press meeting on the Japanese news station NHK World Japan. She was very poised and confident. I think she is finally coming into her own so to speak. Hopefully, the powers that be will allow her more royal appearances representing the emperor if that's something she likes doing.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to princess Aiko!! Loving her confidence in her 20s.
ReplyDeleteI guess I’m in the minority here, but I love both her outfits. I particularly love the pantsuit and will be taking inspiration from it for my graduation.

@T.
DeletePlease don't. It is no pantsuit. They are trousers, a sweater and a vest that don't go together. The trousers are wide where they should be tight and tighter where they should be wide. The sweater doesn't go with the stripes in the trousers and the vest is something old ladies are wearing now and then. Only a striped jacket with a white shirt underneath would be lovely with the trousers.

DeleteBut I like how that outfit looks.

Pretty young woman.
