  1. And there is the new tiara. The Rose Diamond Bandeau, made of crown jewel diamonds that had been set in a belt that once was worn halfway (front of a dress) around the rather tiny waists of corseted royal ladies. I am so glad that Queen Mary took the oppurtunity to look through the crown jewels and select pieces that could be repurposed. As it was a demi-parure (the belt, plus earrings - I believe - plus a huge brooch/stomacher) we perhaps will see the other pieces some day as well. Well done, Queen Mary, well done.

  4. All three ladies look good. Mary is wearing her new tiara for the first time. Her dress is pretty and matches the tiara. She looks very good. Benedikte is classy as always, but I don't like the weird black detail. Marie is the winner, in my opinion. Dress and tiara are perfect on her.

  5. Hmm… I absolutely adore the diamonds on the head but I think the overall look is a little hard. The high neck, the hair so close on the head, the black dress - aren’t there outdated, those sparkles? - all is so less feminine or soft.
Princess Benedicte looks all like Christmas, but for a state dinner?
Sorry, it’s not my favorite evening

    1. I agree with you. The diamonds are beautiful, obviously, and I´m in favour of the repurposing. I also like the simplicity of design as the diamonds speak for themselves. However, the overall look tonight is too harsh and strict. The black-and-white gown, the high neck, the hair pulled back tightly, the headband-style tiara... amongst the tiara-clad ladies she looks least queen-like. She should save this tiara for travelling abroad when she one amongst many guests, like for a wedding or something, when she is not primarily representing her country. For this state dinner though I think she should have chosen something bigger and gone for more feminity and glamour.
I do like Benedikte´s dress. I think it is very stately and perfect for the season.
My winner is Marie still. Gorgeous colour, perfect fit, soft style and impressive jewels. What´s not to like?

    2. Vanessa, the new tiara can most likely not be brought out of the country, as the diamonds are part of the crown jewels. It is the same with the Danish Emerald Parure. It cannot be worn outside of Denmark. As for the harshness of her dress - I believe there's more to the story than what just meets the eye. First, her guest is from a muslim country, so she certainly wanted to play it safe by wearing tights, long sleeves, and a higher neckline. Second, she apparently wanted the new tiara to be the focus, not a spectacular "queenly" dress. Third, she might have wanted to be wrapped up quite snug (I noticed she donned a wrap/shawl even over her coat for the daytime events), perhaps because she might have felt a cold coming up. You can see that also Benedikte is dressed in a frock that can keep her warm. Better safe than sorry.

-Dorothe-

The text appears to be written in native German, but it has a slightly informal or conversational tone, which suggests it could possibly be written by someone whose first language is not German. Some phrases, like "einfach immer wieder" or "unkopierbare Ausstrahlung," could hint at influence from another language.

All three ladies look wonderful, but I love Mary's gown, and she wears it really well. It also looks like she is wearing the recently reset tiara which her simple back knot updo compliments perfectly. Given all the sparkles on her dress, the minimalist tiara is perfect.
    P. Marie rocks the Jenny Packham sequined gown and looks absolutely beautiful with her fuller hair and exquisite tiara, and as always, P.Benedikte is the picture of elegance in her gown and diamonds. Instead of the double band of faux fur on her sleeves I'd have gone with just one broad band equal to the width of the two, but that's just my preference. The dress looks perfectly fine as it is.
Frederik looks very smart in his uniform and white gloves, and he and Mary make a dashing royal couple.

  9. What a tiara treat in this 3rd state visit this week. Personally I think all of the Danish royal ladies nailed it tonight with the gala looks - 10/10!

Queen Mary - With talks regarding a new tiara for the Danish royal collection I was hoping Queen Mary would wear it this evening and she delivered. I think the new Danish Rose Diamond Bandeau is simple but elegant. I can't wait to see how the piece will be used in the future. The Queen looks very elegant here. Her choice for a black gown is perfect for a winter state visit. Black was also the choice for the Duchess of Edinburgh earlier this week for the Qatari state visit.

Princess Marie - What a joy to see the princess back in Denmark. It has been a few years now since she participated in these events. Her dress is my favorite of the night. Both the style and color are stunning. Her brooch is very pretty as well I just wish the pictures were a bit clearer.

Marie looks gorgeous! I love everything about her look. Her hair style is amazing! It doesn't appear that she has received Frederik's Family Order yet. I don't care for Mary's gown as much. I think it might look better if it didn't have the mock neck. Benedikte is her typical lovely self. She never disappoints.

    1. I read somewhere that the Danish royal ladies only wear one family order each. Usually they wear only the first one they receive, but a Queen Consort will exchange it for her husband's. If my recollection is correct, we won't see another person wearing King Frederick's order probably until he gives it to his daughters.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous9/12/24 21:07

Yes, you're correct! Danish royal ladies typically wear only one family order, and it's often the first one they receive. The Queen Consort traditionally wears her husband's order, as you've mentioned. King Frederick’s family order is indeed usually passed down to his daughters when the time comes, so it’s unlikely anyone else will wear it until then. It's an interesting tradition that highlights the significance of these royal symbols.

  11. I'm a big fan of Mary, but not of this gown. It probably looks much different (and better) up close, but in the photos it looks as though an uncomfortably hot pullover sweater has been stuffed under a strapless evening gown. The severe hairstyle is a miss as well, imo.

Marie is such a beautiful woman. The green gown suits her petite figure well and her hairstyle is perfect. Benedikte is her usual classy and elegant self and I like the fur trim on her gown. I’m not too crazy about Mary’s gown and she looks a bit severe with that hairstyle. The diamond tiara band is lovely though.

@ Anonymous now starring as "Poltroni"( poltroni is an Italian word meaning " lazy people"- are you referring to royalty as such or to the Danish royals in particular?
      Just out of curiosity).

Has the thought of Mary wearing black and Benedikte wearing red as a nod to the Egyptian flag ever crossed your mind?
Of corse not, given your nasty comments on Mary at all times.
You know, any piece of clothing may be a hit or a miss but labelling it as a "failure" implies much more than that including personality traits and territories far beyond fashion.
I am pretty sure that you used this word with an overly harsh and bitter communicative purpose as always.
I'll tell you what I and very likely the majority of people consider as a failure in life:
      restlessly mirroring one's own personal bias, anxiety, uneasiness and racing negative thoughts over other people, no matter if they belong to one's family orbit or external reality, which is not perceived as it really is but manipulated to fit one' s innermost dysfunctional sensations;
      losing the sense of proportion and fail in any communicative skill and purpose (no matter what language and name you decide to choose);
not being self confident and nurturing sentiments of insecurity, envy, jealousy for anyone, mostly women- be it royal or not- perceived as successful life models one will never compare to, which inevitably leads to frustration, sadness and a feeling of void.
Mary or any other female royal-young or adult-are in no way responsible for the above mentioned moods or states of mind.
The issues are not Mary's or any other royal lady's but the woman's hiding behind anonymous (whether signed or not) snarky and multi- language comments.
      Just think about it, please.
You could have just said that you liked/ didn't like Mary's outfit and substantiated your comments with logical and effective points.
And please, spare me your pointless refrain " you don' t know me/ that's my opinion/ you' re getting too personal " and all the same stuff.
Please, try to understand that you have given yourself away in any possibile way through all of your comments and you have let any blogger on this site see what really lurks under the surface of your words and thoughts.

      * Anonymous as Poltroni or whatever
You can easily get to know what mirroring is in psychology.
I happened to notice that your way of "mirroring" follows two opposite routes.
On the one hand ,you try to copy- lite rally to mirror- other bloggers' behaviours and way of writing , probably inventing identities and lives you have never experienced in external reality for a number of reasons.
Quite strangely, you also " mirror-" in the sense of 'projecting outwards' all your hang ups on Royal ladies and even on a few bloggers sometimes-, including myself.

Princess Marie's dress is the same one that Catherine, Princess of Wales, has worn twice before (for example, on a visit to Pakistan. Catherine has the same pink one). Even the hair and the whole outfit looked so that at first I thought that the Princess of Wales had come to the reception. But that's not a mistake. Repeating someone's outfit is the highest form of respect.
The other ladies also look very elegant and royal.

I saw it on video. One military person from the Egyptian delegation shook hands only with Frederik, bowed to the rest, but then chose to shake hands with Benedikte as well. This caused the women to laugh a little still while they were greeting people from the delegation. Then Mary really began to laugh and turned her body to Marie and told her something while laughing and shaking her head.

I WANT to love this tiara - who can say no to big rocks, after all? But it hasn't grown on me yet. I like the last shot from above where Mary's dark hair is backing the diamonds, I could also envision it with a hairstyle more like Marie's here (which, in turn, I don't neccessarily like paired with a more substantial tiara), playing into the headband theme (Maxima's done that with the diamond bandeau, so has Mette Marit with the daisies). That being said, it's a perfect companion to this particular dress, though.

  23. I rushed back to add that I have to question the suit the Egyptian president is wearing. Does he not have white tie (or at least black tie) attire as a man in this position?

Maybe all this Western tralala of black tie and white tie do not exist in Egypt. The Sultan of Oman came in his national gala clothes to Belgium, the Sheikh of Qatar came to London in his Islamic traditional clothes (he even wore sandals at the state banquet). It is time that the western world starts to think differently. Maybe the Egyptian president put on a normal suit like men do in Europe. Maybe in Egypt, men in his position when they have to be dressed for a special event are dressed like it should when they wear a normal suit.

      Delete
    2. Anon. 16:14, I think that's right. I'm sure the clothing styles were agreed in advance. King F wore a less ornate uniform than usual for these galas, and I think that may also be a reason for Queen M to have worn a smaller bandeau than she could have chosen. I'm sure they knew the President would be wearing a suit.
