On November 27, 2024, Queen Silvia of Sweden visited Saarland University Hospital in Homburg to inaugurate the eleventh Childhood House in Germany. Before the ceremony, the Queen was welcomed by Saarland’s Minister-President, Anke Rehlinger. She then officially opened the new Childhood House (Johanniter Child Protection Competence Centre) located on the campus of the University Hospital.
The facility is part of child protection efforts, providing a safe space for children. It prioritizes the well-being of children over mere fact-finding during investigations into crimes such as abuse, mistreatment, or other offenses. The Childhood House, an initiative of the World Childhood Foundation founded by Queen Silvia in 1999, serves as a contact point for children who have been victims or witnesses of physical or sexual violence.
