Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan attended the closing ceremony of the PEMA Symposium, marking the first iteration of Bhutan’s National Mental Health Symposium. Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the WHO Bhutan office, the two-day event brought together policymakers, healthcare professionals, and community members to foster dialogue and pave the way for transformative initiatives.
In her address to the gathering, Queen Jetsun Pema highlighted the importance of a unified community effort in tackling mental health challenges. She emphasized empathy, compassion, and the vital roles that educators and counselors play in supporting individuals, particularly the youth. The Queen called for collective action to combat issues such as suicide and bullying, fostering a society rooted in understanding, resilience, and hope.
During the event, Queen Jetsun Pema inaugurated two landmark mental health facilities: The PEMA Home and Mitshey Yarab Lamzang. The PEMA Home focuses on prioritizing the mental health and well-being of children facing difficult circumstances. Mitshey Yarab Lamzang, a center of hope and well-being, provides care for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. By emphasizing reintegration into society, the center aims to empower individuals to lead fulfilling lives as responsible citizens.
