I admire Princess Stephanie's charity work. But as far as fashion is concerned, we have nothing to talk about here. Princess Stephanie is the same age as Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. but she looks 10 years older. I don't mean that as an insult, it's simply my observation

She has had many years of hard living which shows on her skin. Smoking and a lot of sun always age a person.

  2. Cela faisait un certain temps que je n'ai pas eu le plaisir de voir Stéphanie ; tenue rafraîchissante avec un modèle de lunettes qui lui sied à merveille !

I’ve always liked Stephanie. She’s had a rather tumultuous life but comes across as a kind woman. Not much to comment about her outfits but she looks comfortable!

I’ve been fighting mixed feelings about Stephanie for some time; she works for laudable and important causes, but at the same time it is puzzling that she presents herself so unattractively (imo). In her own distinctive way, she has always been as beautiful as her sister — yet for years now, she has sported ugly glasses, an unflattering hairstyle, and frumpy clothing. Contrast this with photos of her during her marriage to Daniel Ducruet (for example) and it is astonishing. I wonder what disappointments in life could have done this to her. Please understand that I think this is much better than when a woman of her age tries to be “sexy” with too much makeup, obvious cosmetic procedures, and too-revealing attire — but if she made the most of her natural beauty and her access to splendid couture, she would represent Monaco so much more effectively, imo. — Jane

Anonymous at 18:21, I am not surprised by your comment; I expected some negative reactions. I was careful to emphasize that in my opinion Stephanie is a beautiful woman. What is not beautiful is the way that she often chooses to present herself. I do not think it is unkind to acknowledge this in the context of a fashion blog, and to say that I find it puzzling.

You wonder "what disappointments in life" she has had. You possibly do not know about the terrible car accident where her mother was killed and Stephanie herself very seriously injured. It is a miracle that she recovered. And international media was so "kind" telling that Stephanie had been driving and it was her fault that Grace died. Even without "tumultuous life" such experiences can change one's life completely as to what is really important.
By the way, Stephanie will be 60 early next year. She doesn't look older than that, actually younger (only my personal opinion).

@Margot I agree with everything you said, except about her looking younger than her age. Stephanie and I are the same age (within days) and I look much younger than she does. She hasn't taken the best care of her skin, and her lifestyle has been the cause of skin damage. I don't know that she cares about that. Not everyone does.

When Princess Stéphanie was a young lady she and her sister Princess Caroline were always dressed according the latest fashion of that period. They belonged to the jet set of the mediterannean and were regularly photographed on a beach or in night and other clubs. Princess Caroline changed into a chic lady dressed in expensive clothes from expensive brands. Princess Stéphanie prefers a comfortable style and is dressed like any tourist in red cotton pants, a white blouse with short sleeves and espadrilles or more silky pants and a sleeveless white top. From a distance with her shorter hair she has a bit of a young boyish look. The princesses (and the prince) had all three tumultuous lives and it shows. They all three look older than they are. Therefore one cannot compare them to other royals who had a more or less normal life.

À few of the commentators write that Stephanie looks older than her age: I on the contrary think she looks young with this short hair that suits her so well.
Informally dressed she seems most at ease, I hope for her sake that she is!

Stephanie works hard to support the fight against AIDS. She's dressed appropriately for a visit to Madagascar. No, Stephanie does not care about fashion--her interest in fashion lapsed years ago. Stephanie was also a bit of tomboy and preferred trousers, jeans, etc to anything dressy or from a fashion house. To me, the second to last photo is pure Stephanie. I admire her committment and wish her well.

I like both outfits, but linen gets so wrinkled. The second outfit I like, especially in what appears to be a very hot climate. I love that she is ageing naturally and is still beautiful. I would much prefer this than other royals that work so hard to maintain what they think is a youthful look.

Linen is considered a high end fabric. It is hypoallergenic, keeps the body temperature regulated, and is long lasting. In short, it is worth the investment. It is understood that it will crease, like other natural fabrics. I don't think that people who choose to wear linen care much what others think about the creases. Other linen wearers think nothing of it.

When I was still at work, I often wore linen shirts and/or skirts in the Summer. Yes it creases. In those days my colleagues and I we ironed our shirt, pants or skirt in the morning before we went to work, but after half an hour in a train to the town where we worked, the wrinkles appeared again. Our motto was "our clothes have wrinkles but it are luxurious wrinkles". In those days the price of linen clothes was even more expensive than today.

@Anon 7:00 I love "luxurious wrinkles"! I will be using that in the future.

I feel she is supportive of this organisation and has done marvellous work for AIDS foundation.
Very traumatic , how she lost her beloved mum, Stephanie was so young and injuries herself. Life after that was not easy but no matter how many setbacks in her life she quietly got on with things and did the best she could.
She has raised three lovely and stable children. So if she wants to be casual and dress a certain way good for her, and frankly she seems comfortable in her own skin. On this trip she is appropriately dressed, re: warm weather and on this particular visit.
It’s always a bonus to see her.

It is so nice to see her commitment this this worthy cause. She is doing this for about 20 years. Keep up the good work.
