  1. something on right here; burlesque top

    1. Hmmm yes, agree with the something not right + burlesque. Looking down to the model, I don’t like the dress; a lovely silhouette but the neckline is almost a bellybutton line it’s so crazily low. I am glad she had some of the deep bellybuttonline filled in, but the result is burlesque as you say. Charlene nevertheless looks beautiful but this is one Alexander McQ outfit I don’t think is classy. - Grace

    2. @anon01:25 & @Grace: I don't get it, this looks sensational! Very glamourous and she looks absolutely stunning in it! Why you would call this look not classy goes beyond me :-/

      Delete
    3. Although I am not Grace, I think she, like me, feels that the 'corset' should have been a few centimeters higher so that the emphasis is not on the bust, but on a good proportion between the neck and the topline of the corset so that you look at the total picture

    4. Anonymous 13:33, just different opinions, which is normal in fashion, and why it’s fun here when people discuss why they see things differently, as I have, as you have - Grace

    5. Not an appropriate neckline.

    6. @Grace I totally get that "beauty lies in the eye of the beholder" ;-) And it is all a matter of opinion, no problem with that. But deeming it 'not classy' seems a bit uncalled for I find. 'Not to my taste' or 'I don't like it' or 'I wouldn't dare to wear that' or... would be a more neutral way to get your point across instead of leaning towards a more derogatory choice of words.

    7. 22:39 if you reread my original words especially the last sentence “Charlene nevertheless looks beautiful but this is one Alexander McQ outfit I don’t think is classy” you’ll see I’m commenting on the design and not the wearer and clearly stated that is my opinion and I don’t think we need to edit my words further! Would be great for you to sign with a name because I’d love to recognise your words in future posts and not to call you anonymous! It’s fun here recognising each other and respectfully discussing and building conversation over time… but not calling respectfully thoughtfully written comments derogatory. - Grace

    8. The first photo highlights that perhaps 2 different makeup artists used 2 different colours to paint her face and paint her décolletage. Grace, I can only agree with you that there is too much décolletage showing and the makeup error highlights this. She is nevertheless statuesque and beautiful.

      Delete
    9. Yeah beautiful, but verging on non-classy re neckline, although the rest of the dress is beautiful but it’s hard to overlook the sparkles serving as the coverup….

    10. @Anon 22:39 I agree with you. There are "classy" ways to say things, and then there are crude and vicious ways to express one's self. Saying Charlene looks like a stripper is obnoxious. She has never dressed in a manner suggesting any such thing.

There are many things that I would not wear, but are perfect for the person wearing them or the occasion. Our personal style does not dictate what is a nice outfit and what is not. Charlene is wearing a gorgeous gown, and there is nothing inappropriate about it.

    11. @Grace 23:36 I didn't edit your words, nor did I say your comment was on the wearer. Your comment is perfectly fine until those final words. There is no way anyone would find that a respectful & thoughtful comment.
When you write how you would alter the design, or how you would style it, or whatever changes you would make to the look: that is a conversation on fashion. I'm all for that. But ending it with "I don't think it's classy" is derogatory, let's be honest. Women calling other women's outfits not classy is not the kind of positive online behaviour we need here.

    12. Nice dress except that bustiere which takes all the attention to the bust. Agree not very classy. (Annie)

    13. Would be perfection if she’d used black not silver to fill the extreme Hollywood neckline. Meanwhile yup “burlesque” is the effect. Her hair is very nice here.

    14. Oh please! Grace is a longterm member here and always respectful. I value her perspective. I personally find th look PERFECTION but it’s completely fine if someone else says it’s not classy. D.E.

Elke

    17. I'm with anon04:52 on this:
Personal taste is one thing, and there is always a context to keep in mind: the person wearing it, and on what occasion.
In this case - the princess of Monaco, attending a sports award-show, in Monaco - nothing wrong with it at all!

No one is forced to like that dress but adding a moral value to your opinion is unnecessary.
If someone comes up to you and says "your outfit is not classy" would you find that thoughtful and respectful? Give me a break :-D

So from now on every dress or outfit that shows either a deeper neckline, has a bustier-like bodice, is sparky/bejeweled will be burlesque and not classy? Let's keep an eye on the comments when the next events come up ;-)

  13. Exquisite gown, and she looks gorgeous in it! She is a statuesque beauty. It appears that Charlene's makeup artist didn't do a great job on her decollete. They should have taken into account the harsh lighting. Pity. It is the only thing wrong with this gorgeous look.

  24. No other queens or (crown)princesses could/would wear this. Although it is beautiful and Princess Charlene can wear it, it would not be possible in most European countries, UK included. Protocol would never allow to wear such an outfit in public.

    1. Agree !!

      Delete
    2. "Protocol" is for diplomatic occasions, not fashion. The word gets misused quite often.

      Delete
    3. Queen Letizia has worn almost similar outfits and even queen Silvia has worn very low neck openings at her 70s, nothing wrong with that.

      Delete
    4. Let's replace the word "protocol" by "not done" in the majority of the European royal houses. Only in Monaco they can wear such outfits.

    5. @ Anonymous 08:21
Queen Letizia showed her back not the front. I wonder if you could tell me on what occasion Queen Silvia showed a very low neck ? I have never seen a picture of her like that.

      Delete
    6. @ 08:21
Found pictures of Queen Silvia in her 70s. The necklines where not very deep. She was still very beautiful in her 70s. I also found pictures of her in strapless dresses but never the neckline was too low. One could not see the beginning of her breasts, just bare shoulders.

      Delete
    7. I have seen Letizia in black leather tight pants with red stiletto heels. Anyone who believes that look was more regal/suitable than what the Princess of Monaco is wearing is delusional.

  25. Yes, definitely all thumbs up, what a phantastic gown, she looks breathtakingly beautiful in it. Fits like a glove. (but even then: just imagine this with her unique pixie cut ... but I am happy that she at least abandoned that not really stellar thin bob style for this dress)
