Princess Astrid of Belgium is leading an economic mission visiting Brazil from November 22 to December 1, 2024. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hadja Lahbib, is accompanying Princess Astrid of Belgium. On November 24, 2024, Princess Astrid visited Solvay Group's new plant in Paulinia, which is developing an innovative biological solvent for various export markets.
On November 25, Princess Astrid attended a seminar on potential cooperation between Brazil and Belgium in the field of bioeconomy, focusing on two major subthemes: sustainable agriculture and industrial biotechnology.
Later on November 25, Princess Astrid visited the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo, which collaborates closely with the biopharmaceutical company UCB Biopharma and its Brazilian subsidiary. She also toured the pediatric department, the children’s hospital, and the research center.
On November 26, Princess Astrid and the accompanying ministers met with Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of Brazil, and later with the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas. The Princess also participated in meetings and seminars focused on promoting sustainability in the construction and energy sectors, the aerospace industry, and the food industry.
On November 27, Princess Astrid visited the Puratos Group Inspiration Centre in São Paulo. The company has been producing products, ingredients, and applications for bakers, pastry chefs, and chocolatiers in Brazil since 1986. The Princess also learned about the Bakery School, where Puratos trains underprivileged young people to become bakers, pastry chefs, and chocolatiers.
