On November 21, 2024, the new official portraits of King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark were released. The civil portraits, taken by photographer Steen Evald in the Great Hall of Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen, will be used by The Royal House of Denmark for purposes such as official trips, visits, and special events, as well as by the patronages of The King and Queen.
In April, the official gala portrait of King Frederik and Queen Mary was published. The portrait is currently being distributed to Danish embassies and consulates abroad, national institutions, and selected Danish sea vessels. It serves as the symbolic presence of the King and Queen in places where they cannot be physically present. In January, King Frederik will mark the first anniversary of his reign.
Hello, does anyone know what the pin on the king's lapel is? Good to see them looking so well 20 years on from their wedding
ReplyDeleteI would think that the pin is the bouton/jacket pin of the Order of the Elephant
DeleteWonderful couple! They are the real team togheter.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteReally?
DeleteKF is perfection. Eyes like the ocean very deep and true blue.
ReplyDeleteKM is sereen looking in white.
Many happy years together.

I think his eyes are grey.
DeleteNo my eyes are grey.

DeleteSorry, serene.

Belle première photo, ils sont élégants et dignes. Mary est très bien en blanc. Ses boucles d'oreilles semblent jolies.
ReplyDeletePaloma.
Very nice, dignified portraits.

I'm not sure what it's with portraits these days, but I miss QM's 'softness' in these photos. The king looks good.
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
DeleteYes. I agree. This doesn't reflect the warmth that Mary usually exudes.
DeleteOh, I don't know. I guess these photos will do for what they are intended. But Mary's warmth is not captured. She looks too stiff and wooden, not at all like her personality. Queen Margrethe always seemed to have a twinkle in her eyes in her formal photos. Mary's eyes are fixed, not relaxed. Frederik looks fine. I like his smile in the first photo. (Mary seems to work awfully hard, so maybe she's just exhausted!)
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Joann. I can sense Marys warmth. But then of course nobody od us knows her personally.
Delete@Joann, I see Queen Mary looking very REGAL and that is the look you want for an official portrait and like Coralie said you can see her warmth come through!
DeleteMinimalist.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. I wonder if the king could groom his beard a bit better or shave it off. The queen looks lovely in that shade of winter white. Love the earrings. Imprefer her hair shorter, more shoulder length
ReplyDeleteHmmm, let’s not wish more perfection onto people who are already so in the spotlight; let’s allow some private decisions such as hair and beard lengths, don’t you think? - Grace
DeleteNot looking for perfection, imo the shorter length looks nicer on her. They can have whatever length they want trends are not becoming on everyone. To see a well groomed beard look at the king of Spain.
DeleteYou feel his beard is unkempt? I think you are a person who doesn't like men having facial hair. Maybe you aren't the best judge of beards. Several of the former Danish kings had facial hair. It was the style then, as it is now.
DeleteI don't like Mary's portrait. It looks as if it is an AI portrait..so artificial
ReplyDeleteDear No Name 14:42, The blue button on the king‘s lapel probably stands for the Order of the Elephant.

I am sorry but I just can't with the lipstick outside the lines.
ReplyDeleteEnsemble, ils forment un super couple !
ReplyDeleteThey looks so much in love!
ReplyDelete@Coralie: I agree with you very much. An official portrait is just that - not really something where Mary ought to radiate warmth. It is a very neutral portrait for a good reason - it has to serve very different purposes. And Mary is not Margrethe, different women, different styles, both adorable in their own right.
ReplyDeleteThese beards. Most men look awful with it
ReplyDeleteAgree
DeleteThen best to keep yours shaved.
Delete… but Fred looks absolutely gorgeous with his!
DeleteMary looks exquisite the white top is gorgeous looks very crisp. Mary
ReplyDeleteMore generic illustration picture than Royal portraits. Why so colourless, stiff and dead in the eyes?
ReplyDeleteAgree, emotionless pictures.
DeleteLovely photos. Mary looks wonderful, oh the diamond earrings, stunning!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but I'm not a fan of Mary in these portraits. The outfit is nice and crisp and suits her well, but maybe it's the absence of a smile or the full-on angle, but she looks almost AI-generated. A bit too smooth somehow. Frederik looks fine, so I'm not sure what gives me the impression, really. But outfit-wise it's all very fine and appropriate.
ReplyDelete-Nika-
Nika, I think the photographer has done a fair bit of editing, which is normal for photographers these days, and they want an enduring regal photo so quite stylised, so I think that’s why it can look a bit artificial. Actually would be awesome to see the original and compare the edited version. - Grace
DeleteGreat looking couple.
