The Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Republic of Chad in Central Africa, where she met refugees fleeing the 18-month civil war in Sudan. As a supporter of the UK's Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI), the Duchess visited Chad to observe firsthand the impact of the conflict, especially on women and girls, and to raise awareness of the deteriorating situation affecting Chad and the broader region.

The 18-month conflict in Sudan has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, displacing nearly 11 million people seeking safety in neighboring countries, including Chad. During her visit, the Duchess travelled to Adré, a town 400 metres from the Sudanese border, and met with refugees, including women and children, who had recently fled Sudan.

While in Chad's capital, N'Djamena, the Duchess was received by the Prime Minister of Chad, Allamaye Halina. The Duchess of Edinburgh also met with local and regional civil society organizations, UN agencies, and women-led groups working on women's empowerment and support for women in Chad.

  1. Tenue très rafraîchissante surtout qu'elle a combiné ce chemisier boutonné fleuri avec cette jupe turquoise !

Sadly I am not a fan of these outfits. the first one looks sloppy; perhaps the weather and location was a determining factor in her clothing choices. The red looks pretty on the model, but the one of Sophie at the podium (perhaps the angle of the camera) makes her look too heavy.

    1. Sophie in the top pics was in the desert with UNICEF at a refugee camp in hot dry dusty weather with a focus on suffering. Never comfortable in those places, and compassion and listening (and creating access to funds and resources) count most of all. - Grace

    2. Hi Virginia! Agree that the red somehow looks heavy! It’s such a pretty colour for Sophie but somehow heavy in these pics. Camera angle? Hard travel day? (Wrong dress fitting?) - Grace

  3. She needs a taylor to make all dresses at least 10 cm shorter. She has such a pretty young looking face but these too long dresses make her look not very elegant and modern

    1. There has to be a reason she wears her skirts that long. Does she have horrible knees or calves?
Anyway, It's pretty much her standard now, she's not listening to us, lol.

    2. She has perfectly normal legs. The rare moments we saw her with a short coat and her high heels she looked 20 years younger.

    3. Cinci I think there is a reason … I think she likes them long! Otherwise, she’d wear them shorter I’m pretty sure!

  4. Sophie does well to sit like that in picture three, as she is 60.

    1. Yes!! She is in great shape and had an angelical face. Usually don't like her sartorial choices, but she is a great asset to the BRF

    2. @Luna you are right about Sophie as I said she is King Charles's "secret weapon".

  5. Sophie so visibly and endearingly engages with the people she meets.
I don't always like her clothing selections, though her Ascot choices are often gorgeous and so flattering to her.
But on this journey to what looks like a country in which women stay covered, what would be an overly long dress in the U.K. may amount to a respectful bow to the culture of the country the Duchess is visiting.

  6. The blouse is lovely, the skirt comfortable and her hair do very good for this visit.
I think the red dress is way to long, but maybe she adjusts to the country’s style.

  7. Why is Sophie not a princess, just a simple duchess?

    1. Technically she is Princess Edward but she was never known as that because on her marriage to HRH Prince Edward Earl of Wessex she was given the title HRH Countess of Sussex. Since then, Edward has been given the title of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and Sophie is now HRH the Duchess of Edinburgh which is a higher rank for her and is not a simple title.

  8. It is so nice to see so much of Duchess Sophie as of late and this visit shows the best of the royals. I know it is hot and humid and the small print blouse must be by now her favorite go to look like her print dresses. The most important point is that she is there to help. I noticed she has changed wedding rings, do you think that was deliberate as to not wear jewels considering the circumstances!

    1. I noticed her ring as well. Sophie is very mindful of being respectful and follows the country’s customs and culture. She is not one to be seen as “flashy”.

  9. Her outfits I feel are a good choice. She looks respectful and following customs. She looks very interested and engaging. She does such marvellous, work. I think she is wonderful.

  10. Engaging personality, beautiful woman that listens and responds to the horrible suffering the people have to live with day in/out. It seems pointless to comment on Sophie's clothing choices (which are excellent).
